In the UK we have slow worms very commonly and they scare lots of people who think theyre snakes but really theyre nice and calm legless lizards
Legless lizards have a somewhat straighter head and they shed differently
To add on to Moykurs, their bodies are segmented differently. Snakes bodies are built very specifically. A legless lizard is built like a lizard but without the legs.
Where I live, there´s a legless lizard species called Blindworm. If you look at their skelletons, you can still see hints of leg bones, and some are even still born with legs from time to time, while snake skelletons got completely rid of any resemblance of leg bones.

Another good way to keep a cats weight under control: Use bland food in their largish primary feeder, that they have 24/7 access to. Use high calorie yummy food in a separate area and just give them a little each day. Then, if you have to leave for a couple days, just top off the bland food. They'll treat the bland food like emergency rations.
my parents got my cat an automatic food dispenser but his paw was just long enough to reach through the flap that lets food out so he would slowly but surely get all the food out one kibble at a time
