- I've been giving some thought to coatings and finishes and made a decision. Only trouble is this changes some of the plans for the vapour / shot blaster conversion...
SOMEBODY IS GOING TO WIN ASBO - That's right, somebody who supports the QuickBikes channel and the bikes I'm building is going to be the proud owner of a completely custom built Suzuki Bandit Cafe Racer once it's finished. I'm giving away ASBO to celebrate hitting the 10,000 subs mark to somebody who supports the channel.
To stand a chance of winning the bike once its finished, simply donate £10 to the channel using the PayPal link - www.paypal.com...
Where it says "What's this payment for?", enter "Supporting the channel". That way I know what the payment is for and I can make sure your name goes in my hat.
You can donate as much as you like and each £10 donation to the channel will get you another chance to win the bike as you're supporting us that much more.
If the winner is not in the UK, I can crate it up etc, but the shipping will be their responsibility. If you're in the UK, we'll be able to arrange something.
Please, please, please like and share this video as it will be setting the budget to finish the bike and hopefully raise some additional funds so I can include some spanky bits in the build. The bigger the budget, the better the bike you might end up with.
THIS IS NOT A RAFFLE...
You won't get a ticket or a sticker in the post, but I'll publish a list of names regularly, so you know you you've been entered. Somebody who has chipped in will be randomly picked once the bike is finished and as a thank you for supporting us will be the proud new owner of ASBO.
The very BEST of luck to you if you chose to join in and help support the channel 😁👍

dude u need a nice temp control solder station, there not to exspensive. it makes wiring that much more bearable :)
Lidl have cheap ones
@@H-M-78 Been tempted by the special buy irons. Have the 937d solder station of eBay atm. Think it's a clone of a brand one but had it for about 8 years and still going. Different tips and replacment irons are cheap
Good to know fellas, thank you 😁👍
Hey Quicky, try swapping soldering bits if one w'ont tin,try the other
I did in the end but it was still a pain 😅😂🤣
I've got some flux coming, apparently that helps 😁👍
Totally agree on the Serakote stuff! It really is good! But! I don't think the dual-purpose thing will work very good. You should rather build Your own vapour blaster cabinet, modeled after the cabinet You've got there - but with the door on the left side! Alternating between vapour and dry blasting, will wear out Your hardware, and generally wear out the cabinet. Two cabinets last twice as long as one, remember...🤩
I'm still bouncing ideas around about the cabinets at the moment as I've got limited space in here... It would be good to have two cabinets properly set up for a job instead of having to switch stuff around all the time 😁👍
Would be interested in the ceracoat procedure mate.
Yeah... I reckon I could do it here as well... I've got everything I need and the shot blaster is mega now it's got twice the air flow...
You doing the engine back to silver as the 600's were silver and the 1200's black.
Noooo.... I like the idea, but a black engine will fit the look I'm going for betterer 👍
You sir need a larger workshop or you need to build a loft space for all the kit you need..
keep up the great work.
🏴👍
It's getting a bit cosy in here now 🤣😂😅
I heard ..heard ..don't know ...that cerecote ? Can be a bit brittle ... Would love to hear feedback .... Also soldering where is your flux? For me ..clean tip ...hot ....dipped into liquid flux .. I use a bottle from the plumbing section... Then solder using the solder u were using .. also me soldering iron is one of them big ones ..big heat sink ... Again would love feedback how others do it
I've got some flux coming so hopefully all will be good. Folks seem to rave about this Ceracote, so I'm keen to give it a go 😁👍
Serakote....yup..in your own oven.....ermmmm..by the time its heated up numerous times and baked the parts imho it'd be cheaper to let your man do it...big oven, all done in one go and no doubt tou'd be getting a good price off him for the free advertising!..
I've not figured out the cost of running the oven, but Jack's takes a long time to heat up etc... You may well be right, but I'd quite like to have a go 😁
Two cabinets surely if you want sh*t and vapour options. Cerakote looks awesome when done well but could be costly when you factor in further hikes in electricity prices mate. It might even be more cost effective to send it out to a local firm.
(you'd get it done quicker as well)
🏍
Yeah... True.... I'd like to have a go at it though and see what the running costs are. 🤔
I don’t know if I got unlucky with powder coat but I don’t think it’s the right thing for frames from my experience. Once a stone chips away a little it seams to just flake off more. Paint seams to have a bit more flex when it comes to stone chips.
Weird.... Powdercoat is normally much more durable than paint. That said, if the surface has any grease on it, it will come away. I know Jack never touched the stuff he powdercoats with bare hands after shot blasting it as the oils from your hands will cause issues... Maybe you just got a bad batch matey...
Probably could be viewed as a bit of a Danger , and I have no idea how heavy these units are , and if there is room , but , Me , in that position , I would think about going Higher , and mounting one either above the other , or over your Work Table , Main Door end . Main Door end , you could have a box , or steps up onto your very well built Table to access it . I think there may be more Do Nots than Thats a Thought . Bike is looking very Neat and Tidy , cannot wait to Hear It .
They do weigh a bit it has to be said, so floor standing is probably best. I'm still kicking ideas around though at the moment 😁👍
Ain’t Matt having a go at cerakote?I think it looks like good shit.Hope you get to do some,it’ll be interesting to see.All the best.
I think he was planning on doing some but don't know if he ever got round to it... I need to ask him
Quicky, YES to CERAKOTE 👍
Gotta be done init 😁👍
Absolutely not a D-man build 😂
Thank you dude, means a lot 😁👍
Promise you won't paint the frame with tough black and the start drilling holes and sculpture a newt tail AFTER it's finished
😂😂
Promise 😁
Its coming along OK 👍
Thank you matey 😁
Yes to Cerakote 😎 Really easy to use too. I think it’s a big step up from paint - in its looks and how hard wearing it is. I use it on all my bike/engine builds 👌
Ideal 😁👍
So you just mask off the mating surfaces, bung the holes up and have at it. Have you done carbs as well?
@@QuickBikes
If it’s just a clutch cover or something, I don’t bother masking the mating surfaces. I try not to spray on the mating surfaces but if I get a tiny bit of overspray I don’t worry about it too much. The thickness is extremely thin at around 0.006-0.008mm. If I was doing a cylinder head then I would mask everything up correctly before sandblasting with some powder coating masking tape.
Never done a carb, I did think about it once but got it Vapour blasted. I think Vapour blasted carbs look 🔥🔥 Vapour blasted aluminum (engine cases etc) with some cerkote parts look so good! Like that bit you said you might machine where the tps senor goes - maybe that would look good cerkoted. You can even do plastic. You can sand away any mould imperfections before blasting. Very gentle when blasting it and you cook it at a lower temp for a longer time. I did the plastic cover on a Keihin FCR carb where the cables go in. It looked like a piece of metal once cerakoted
Good luck with it. Same as everything new - it’s a bit nerve racking the first time 😂
Thank you matey, very helpful 😁👍
You need to get some flux to help solder flow and adhere
Yeah, I've just ordered some matey
@@QuickBikes Cool, just don't use Bakers Fluid or similar it remains acidic and will corrode electrical connections long-term. 😁
Think Serakote has got to be the way to go, if it’s tough as old nails then wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. How far would one can get you? I know you said it goes on thin but just curious how much one can could do. Keep it up mate and hope you got your soldering irons sorted.;-) 👍🏻
I'm not sure what sort of coverage you get out of it. I guess we'll find out hey 😁👍
Yeah, go the CERAKOTE way been thinking of trying it myself. I would love to see you done the DIY way.
I'd like to give it a go and see what it turns out like 😁👍
Hi Quicky. I've heard many comments about cerakote n' they're all good. I'm planning to have some done in the near future on my bikes. It's microns thin will take massive heat n' is road salt etc proof. I don't think you even need to blank off threads etc. I think that with it being so thin your surface prep is gonna have to be immaculate ie surface dinks, scratches etc where other thicker coatings like powder coat can cover. Cerakote is definitely stronger n' it'd be my choice 100%. Great satisfaction if you can do it yourself. Also maybe if you did consider a separate cabinet for vapour blasting you could mount it on a wheeled frame. Just push into place as needed as long as connections are the same for both cabinets. Maybe an idea, or not. 🤔🤔
I'm going to give it a go I think. If I can get a good finish, it's just going to be better in the long run... I'm still bouncing ideas around at the minute ref the vapour blaster as I've got limited space 😁👍
Had some engine parts Cerakoted. Cam cover and oil way caps. Expensive but they turned out great a very nice finish.
Think Matt did some Powder coating, not sure if he has done any Cerakoting yet.
I saw his powder coating videos and it turned out all right I reckon. I know he got some Ceracote but not sure if he's had a go yet. 😁
👍
😁
Your bike development and engineering you got there is like from Suzuki headquarters 👍
Hehehe... I don't think so 🤣😂😅
I'm doing the best I can though 👍
I’ve had half the frame, engine, and wheels done in black and the swingarm in clear. All looks great. Oven cure is much harder. Wheels will chip with air cure.
Is it standing up well to road use matey?
Yes, very well. The engine hasn't got a mark on it after 2 years. The clear on the swingarm has some very faint scratches but that was air cure. I've got some bare steel sections visible on the frame that have clear on them and they're fine.
Good to know matey, thank you 😁👍
Clean those tips first get rid of any surface sheen rubbish then put the tips i the oven on a baking tray tin them. Most Chinesium ones take the tips out get some copper rod or tube bend or grind works for me or simply get a butane pencil torch(cheap to use and refuel) so many try to melt the solder from above, heat from beneath then apply solder don't try and melt the solder down on cold metals. In short warm the tips the tin them don't rely on the kettle element irons
Thank you matey 😁👍
@@QuickBikes I'll second gas over conventional irons, I use mine without a tip, heating the wire directly with the flame, be quick though (no pun intended) or you'll soon start melting the insulation, tinning takes seconds.
Thank you dude 😁👍
file the tip til its clean. use bakers fluid and then add solder.. Tinned.
Bakers fluid?
@@QuickBikes Its a soldering flux for many metals. Your engineers or plumbing suppliers should have it or know of the H&S replacement.
Thank you matey
@@QuickBikes All good
Hi there, watching you solder gave me a thought, you probably know this but when it comes to you soldering in your new resister for your ignition you must have it the right way round or no go.
I think that's diodes matey 😁😊
