I love this bottle as it was the first whiskey that I really enjoyed. Quite balanced and complex.

    Thanks for reviewing, Jim.
A for me a whisky that is on the bucket list for quite some time, but never 'on top', so I yet have to taste it... and your review certainly doesn't remove it from that list.
On the "if you try this... than try this" section: love that one and moves the Yoichi up the list.
And agree on recommending Kanpai Planet.

I haven't had many Japanese whiskies and, most I have had have been Nikka but...as a scotch lover...I've been mighty impressed by those few. You, I and most of the whisky loving world know why (as scotch fans) we like Japanese whisky but, that definately doesn't take anything away from what they're capable of producing.
This may be an expensive one...but it's one that I think you would enjoy my friend.
      Slàinte.

Glad you're enjoying that Yoichi as much as I am. The craftmanship on many Japanese whiskies is top class. I don't get as much peat as you do but the little I do get is perfectly balanced with the tropical fruits and sandalwood that I always get on a Japanese dram. Thanks also for giving Mac at KP a plug. Cheers Jim.

Not a bottle I would normally have considered but found a bottle for £62 and seeing your review and Roy also praising It a lot I've pulled the trigger. It will arrive tomorrow and can't wait to try it

Great un again Jim! Thoroughly enjoyed this review and moved Yoichi up the buy list. Had my eyes on it for a while now and your review certainly moved it up a notch. Is around 70€ here and will keep you posted. Slan and take care!

Slàinte Luna. It is a shame this whisky is the price it is. I think if they shaved 10 - 15 €/£ off this it would make it an awful lot more attractive.

Hi Jim, funny thing I did record the first of my Yoichi video series this morning...I saw it announced & just had the time to see the first minutes before more in the afternoon, too curious to learn if you liked it in fact...(as you said it was a bit unfair to it yet a good idea to put in that heavily peated mostly blind flight)...You'll see in my video that your batch differs a bit from mine, yet both are good imho...(in this first episod I review the previous nas, my 2017 batch of current nas & yours, and a quick comparison with the discontinued 10 yo, next videos will cover discontinued only expressions). Cheers & thanks for covering my whisky choice...! Nice and detailed review I have to say...👍

This and it's brother Miyagikyo for me are the best value for a real Japanese single malt in today's market. 66 Pounds equivalent in California. After having both I sought out the NAS distillers reserve Yamazaki and Haksushu bottles that cost me more but were lower abv and not as good to me as these Nikka distilleries. Cheers Jim

Cheers Tim. I'll most definately be purchasing the Miyagikyo at some point. If the quality of the Yoichi is anything to go by...I look forward to sampling its sibling.

Nice review mate. Love this one, Greg send me a sample of the Yoichi 12 year old and it is bloody good. But the prices are just crazy if you can get it.

Opened the sample you sent me whilst watching this review and I have to agree its a lovely dram. I had to sum it up in a 4 word review I would say "Silky smooth smokey melon"

Sorry I missed this review when it first came out. I did my neck-pour review in uh… Feb ‘21, I think? I’ve shot my shoulder-pour vid as well, but I haven’t edited it yet. But I’m with you on it; I’ll gladly buy another when I bottle-down this one, even at the $100 price where I live.
EDIT: yes, Kanpai Planet is a solid channel. Makes me want to deep-dive into Japanese whisky. Too bad I’d lose my house…

Tried the Yamazaki 12y/o and the Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt , enjoyed them both . I find a banana note in them . Definitely want to try this . Another great review Jim 👍🥃

Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt and Coffey Malt are the only Japanese whiskies available in Bulgaria that at least remotely resemble some value. Still I haven't had any of them, because of the somewhat dodgy presentation (NAS, E150a, chill filtration) and steep pricing.
    Cheers!

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice  2 года назад

Granted, the presentation can be off putting but sometimes...just sometimes...the whisky is still very tasty. Those other Nikka expressions (in my opinion) are also good examples of this. The price is the biggest downfall here.
      Cheers.

$100 dollars in my arena. I’ll put it on my maybe list lol. But every single Japanese whisky I’ve had has been delicious even if some did contain scotch in the blend lol
