@RazsterTW you can, hempcrete can be molded into any part of a house that you need. anywhere that concrete can be used hempcrete can do it better. hempcrete is 7 times as strong as concrete and 3 times as flexible(prevents fracturing) its also fireproof, waterproof, and rot proof(unless put underground). unless there is something i'm missing you can build a whole building out of it except where the building goes underground, then use concrete or wood that has been treated.
This is coming from an engineer: I'm assuming that mix doesn't handle bending or load bearing very well and that's why you are placing in and around the stud framing? It looks like you are basically using it as a substitute for rigid foam in the wall or plaster and wire on the outside? From what I have read, this stuff maxes out around 150 psi crush strength, so no good as a structural material.
I decided to made a house from hemp, or just isolate it with. Sometimes Hungary and my living area was the biggest industrial hemp manufacturer in the word! It will be an important part in the rest of my life! So please help me, help each other... first, it is very important to get some consolidation about the real life Experiments! There in the web just part informations, and a lot of started projects, but no EXPERIENCE with the living in the house after finished. Thanks, all the best for You
What about using bamboo instead of hemp. It is available everywhere; it is from the same family of plants. They have straw houses in Europe that they claim are over a thousand years old and have a mud, clay, and sand covering on the straw bails. You could dry the bamboo under black rubber roofing material with bricks in between the stacks and then run it through a wood mulch-er twice to get the finer mulch. This mixed with three parts bamboo mulch ,and one part lime, and water, should be a good consistency. When I went to Europe and was looking at the over one thousand year old ornamental work on the buildings they said it was plaster and granite. Granite has a lot of radiation in it; not good. But the fact that they lasted that long is amazing. Also the roman roads that are still intact used oyster shells with granite dust and sand which was another alternative for longer lasting paving. Our concrete that we use in our homes only has a safety life of 75 years which is scary. I did talk to a friend that took the horsehair plaster out of a home and used it as paths in their yard with small rocks applied to the surface and a roller; it has lasted for many years and seems to be harder then concrete. The older homes last hundreds of years. If anyone uses the hemp or bamboo; let me know how it worked out. Thanks
How much would a home like this cost, all in? Are plumbing, electrical and wifi capabilities the same or is there some modifications, and if so, how much the cost? I love this home.
Why do you need wood stud wall framing if it is stronger than concrete. Is there any other way...preformed blocks? Or could the blocks not be mortored together? Sure would be nice to saves some trees also.
We can build with Hemp/Lime anywhere on the planet, above grade. Because Hempcrete "breathes" and is inherently air tight we have no problems with either moisture or insects.
Can hemp hurd be used underground? Would it need a water barrier after it has dried? Could you use it in insulated structure blocks? Can it be used in interior wall, albeit not as thick as exterior walls? Has the cost come down in the past 9 years?
Why hemp as opposed to merely straw (and concrete, not straw bales)? Don't get me wrong, I love the innovative use of it and see no reason why hemp shouldn't be legalized in the US, but aren't there locally available materials that will work just as well? If it's a matter of tensile strength, the fibers don't seem long enough to make that a concern.
NO! Hempcrete is EXTREMELY weak compared to what is used in a monolithic dome. It also would slash the life expectancy greatly. Including lessening the insulation properties.
Interesting I take it that since it is a some what breathable structure that you do not apply exterior paint to it So then is there a way to add color to it not unlike concrete
would it be possible to make hemp bails? or use straw bail construction then case it with hempcrete ? I live in Maine and I want to build my next house using some similar method but I am not sure of a direction yet?
In 1960, in Hong Kong, I have seen people using hemp panels to build concrete appartments. I considered them as cheap material. Nowadays, hurd is not cheap at all. Due to the fact the law is too hassle to convince farmers ro grow hemp. Police just do not know the difference of Marijuana and hemp.
The negative carbon footprint kinda bugs me too. The carbon to make up the hemp has to come from somewhere. I'm willing to bet it's not all from the air. Therefore you are depleting the soil.
Hempcrate manufacture for world domination! (How inexpensive would this be to provide free housing for those less fortunate? need laws to prevent banks too. because a bank doesnt own mother earth.)
anything that is safer for us and enviroment, they wont allow?who is they? dupont won't allow? just dont buy dupont paint anymore who are they?to say????
Hemp may be moving towards being carbon negative but using trees for the reinforcement sucks. Too bad theres nothing else cheap to do the job, fucking hate cutting down trees ---___________----

hemp can be grown virtually anywhere for more purposes than any other plant in existence, it is the literal definition of "local materials"

Hempcrete has been used in Europe for almost 30 years, in all regions. First house (this video) was built in a 300 mph wind zone.
Awesome that the hemp house has reached the US!
BATH University tested all cellulose waste materials and HEMP is the best hygroscopic cellulose that works for building with lime.
we do add a weather barrier to the exterior of Hempcrete, like lime stucco, with colour added for aesthetics.
This is excellent guys. I'm very glad you got approved.
Hempcrete can be cast into any shape/design of house you want. We have built round walls as well as square :)

are you kidding:) there are many, many hemp homes in UK. Kevin McLeod from Grand Designs has just completed a 42 town home development with Hemp!!!

no prob for hurricanes and tornados; very resilient and over time Hempcrete petrifies :)
This is spectacular! Why are we still cutting down trees?
How much would a home like this cost, all in? Are plumbing, electrical and wifi capabilities the same or is there some modifications, and if so, how much the cost? I love this home.
Can we use hempcrete to build roads that won't crack or form potholes for northern snow states?
Why do you need wood stud wall framing if it is stronger than concrete. Is there any other way...preformed blocks? Or could the blocks not be mortored together? Sure would be nice to saves some trees also.
exactly what I was thinking
We can build with Hemp/Lime anywhere on the planet, above grade. Because Hempcrete "breathes" and is inherently air tight we have no problems with either moisture or insects.
this is really awesome.. Is there really a need to cut trees?
Can hemp hurd be used underground? Would it need a water barrier after it has dried? Could you use it in insulated structure blocks? Can it be used in interior wall, albeit not as thick as exterior walls? Has the cost come down in the past 9 years?
We have made Hempcrete affordable to build and is the same cost as regular construction at around US$150/sqft

where can you buy the plastic forms
thanks that is awesome, I guess It's time to move to colorado to grow some hemp :D
Did you move? You can grow hemp in NC now
3 acres of hemp shiv (cellulose) built this house
How's this business doing now? It's legal to grow hemp in my area. I've been looking into starting another business.
Would this technology work in a monolithic dome house?
NO! Hempcrete is EXTREMELY weak compared to what is used in a monolithic dome. It also would slash the life expectancy greatly. Including lessening the insulation properties.
Possibly as exterior hempcrete or plaster after the spray foam and concrete
When a home is built with hemp, or hemp bale do you still put the coats of lime plaster on it??
They are only using it for insulation. I still see lumber framed walls and it is all sitting on a massive concrete foundation.
Post ad Beam construction with hemp-crete or hemp-lime...how many houses have you guys built so far?
Maybe they could make panels and cut it to fit in the framing?
Interesting I take it that since it is a some what breathable structure that you do not apply exterior paint to it So then is there a way to add color to it not unlike concrete
each state has different building codes but yes
Question: Can Hemp be replaced witg straw, of ground Flag..??
How would a hempcrete house fair in wet cold England?
I know Henry Ford made strong hemp panels for their cars; question is, how come you cannot create a large support columns(structure) instead of wood?
What about boards made from Hemp? How much work and resources would it require to form hemp into boards like 2x4s?
would it be possible to make hemp bails? or use straw bail construction then case it with hempcrete ? I live in Maine and I want to build my next house using some similar method but I am not sure of a direction yet?
how much money do i need, to afford me one of these?
Howbout Tornados and fires? will it last?
Where can I purchaes the reusable shutter forms?
How do I find out if Florida will allow this?
how many acres of hemp or tons shiv to build a house this size?
when your house burns down the firefighters get high as fuck!
No, there is almost no THC in hemp.... It is the female plant that produces THC in its buds; and it will not burn very well given how dense it is.....
+Create Nature you turned that guy down soo hard lol
where can you buy this material for do it yourselfers
WHAT IF YOU WANNA GET HIGH WILL U SMOKE UR WALLS LOL
is hemp can be replaced by jute fiber?
What about termites and other pests, rats, wasps etc.
Does California allow this?
it is GREATLY less expensive, as well as locking away carbon instead of releasing it like happens in the production of concrete
too bad it's illegal to grow our own hemp for housing in America...this has to be imported.
Hopefully soon that will change my friend ;) CO and WA are changing this perspective.
Its being grow now in Colorado.
@@petericeman100 And Texas!
is there no need for rebar or structural reinforcement in North Carolina?
ahhh, 2x4's are within the hempcrete wall. Very nice. In the theme of the original mud brick style. Simple is best~

Hemp doesn't deplete the soil like other crops. Needs very little fertilizer and person power to grow.
can .you.put. it. in .a. old.. homes
you are correct :)
how about methane ?
Look up building codes, but Florida isn't too into the whole hemp plant idea, so I would assume no :(
not possible. Hempcrete should only be used above grade
I thought that it was coming from a Heavy.
"grow like a weed" well it is a weed.
Hempcrate manufacture for world domination! (How inexpensive would this be to provide free housing for those less fortunate? need laws to prevent banks too. because a bank doesnt own mother earth.)
@tintala No my friend hemp will save the planet! ;)
RamsesReturns yea plants do but humans don't
Looks like this house was design by a pothead.
anything that is safer for us and enviroment, they wont allow?who is they? dupont won't allow? just dont buy dupont paint anymore who are they?to say????
