    Grant Stone has made a name for themselves with their top notch smart casual and business casual boots, and they've finally ventured into the world of firmly casual footwear - with luxury touches, though. Indeed, the best way to describe the Brass Boot is as a "luxury work boot" because while the classic moc-and-wedge-sole design is firmly casual and reminiscent of classic mocs from Red Wing, the construction and leather are of a far higher quality than you're likely to find from any work boot.

    it's a real shame you don't do as many deep dive reviews on individual boots anymore. some of those individual boot reviews are some of my favorite videos. I've always appreciated the level of detail that you have put into them! I work as a warehouse supervisor and I need a Soto and unfortunately having more than one motto just doesn't make sense for me right now but I absolutely love these boots.

    I just got this in saddle tan, as a job site visit boot (I’m a project manager) with the idea that once the wedge sole wears down, I will put a lug sole on them and retire them to motorcycle and hiking duty, with the worlds best patina. They are SO COMFORTABLE. And although I’m not a work boot style guy (I grew up in construction and it just seems weird) I do think they look cool out and about. Thanks for this review, it helped! These replaces my old ass iron rangers, and I’m not looking back.

    The problem with the Grant Stone brass boots is that the moc stitching leaks water in like crazy. Just being in the rain for a couple minutes and your socks are wet. If you submerge them for longer than several seconds your feet are soaked.

    • @stephenathon
      @stephenathon 2 года назад +1

      True. I've noticed this. It does take a little bit to soak through the liner but will get your foot wet eventually.

    • @dparis2172

    • @collectivismkills

    Grant Stone are clearly a very, very good company. Incredible bang for the buck. I really get the impression the moc toe stitching on the Brass Boot, and/or the last used, was intentionally designed to avoid comparisons to the Alden Indy, especially since Grant Stone themselves always get so many (usually favourable) comparisons to Alden. But, there's just something about the moc toe stitching on the Brass Boot that doesn't do it for me - it's just not as refined as the Indy, and not as rugged as a Red Wing or similar. I won't knock anyone who loves it, but it's just shy of perfection to me.

    Even with the technically faux moc toe on Nick’s new moc toe boots I’d have to give the title of best to them. Pricier for sure, but a nice selection of non-work leather and can be had on a variety of soles and a more casual, lower heel. Plus you can have them built pretty much exactly like the builder pro and even like their fire boots.

    Now, I adore Nick to no end, but it’s just not true that the GS is better than the Red Wing. I’ve had both and the Red Wing is not only cheaper, but has a 5mm veg tan insole, and is a true moc toe that doesn’t leak water through the stitches. And Red Wing leather is bomb proof.

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  8 месяцев назад +1

      ok ok red wing is not a genuine hand sewn moc but i'll concede it's two pieces sewn together. and like, the brass boot has two layers of veg tan leather and red wing just one! and, i mean you can argue veg tan isn't inherently better than chrome but there's so much more work that goes into the badalassi leather. and the shank! but red wing's is more casual, lightweight, classic, better value, made in america, i get it. and i adore you too

      There is no doubt that the GS is objectively the better boot out of the two. I can’t see how anyone could understand the construction of these two boots and not think that the GS is superior.

    • @collectivismkills
      @collectivismkills 6 месяцев назад

      @@whereRbearsTeeth How exactly “objectively” is the GS better? The leather is not objectively better; the insole is not objectively better; the outsole and midsole, heel counter and toe lining are not objectively better. So how, exactly, is GS superior? Because of the veg tan leather? Veg tan leather is not objectively better than chrome tan.

    • @whereRbearsTeeth
      @whereRbearsTeeth 4 месяца назад +1

      @@collectivismkills First of all, I own both and have put hundreds of miles on them. So, unlike many of the trolls on RUclips, I’m speaking from hands on experience. GS uses a veg tan leather midsole, while RW uses rubber. Leather is better than rubber.. surely you won’t deny that?? Secondly, GS uses thick full grain leather heel counters. RW uses leatherboard crap. Leather is better than leatherboard. Surely you won’t deny that? Third, the stitching, stitching density, and overall QC of the GS is leagues above RW. Finally, the badallasi veg tan leather is definitely a step up from RW’s oil tanned leather.

    I don't buy Chinese boots, they ruined my feet. it took me two years of watching these videos and going through about 8 boots to finally give up and figure out that this last might fit me best. I have a taller instep, the PNW boots are great but their last is made for children's feet and the breaking in period is torture. I'm in my boots 12 hours plus a day and average 15k steps, when I finally got these and put them on it felt like a revelation. They were snug but comfortable. The last felt it was designed around my foot. I might even be able to go a half size smaller and take an extra day or two of breaking in next time. I'm a 12 in sneakers, 11 on the PNW boots and got these at 11.5, they're absolutely stunning in person. I have them in black cxl with the heel. It was a big expense but I'd rather have one boot for 4 years than 8 in two years. I'm a big boy and annihilate shoes quick.
