The suits are homologated and tested for air resistance; they have to have a certain amount of air permeability to be legal and there really isn’t much difference between suit brands in terms of aerodynamics. The skis are all prepared and waxed by the best technicians in the business. Each ski manufacturer hires ski technicians for the teams or even individual racers and although it’s theoretically possible for a technician to get the wax wrong for the conditions, it’s pretty rare these days with the improvements in waxing technology. The skis themselves can vary. Sometimes certain sets of skis are faster running than others and on occasion a particularly fast pair will be used by multiple skiers. There’s not always a reason why one pair might be faster than another pair despite having the exact same construction; it’s just one of those mysteries that happens. It could be in the way the ski flexes or the rebound out of a turn. Generally the bases are the same and are prepared using a sintering machine that textures the bottom to both hold wax and provide a texture that breaks the surface tension of the melted water surface of the snow; so the bottoms generally don’t make much difference unless the preparation was wrong somehow. -former ski racer
But even that hundredth of a second matters. Depending on the event, that could mean a couple of meters difference in where they would end up at the finish.
no, she is just surprised herself ... 4 years ago she only raced snowboard professionally, and only raced the olympic ski-super g, because she already was in peking for the snowboard races and the was a free spot in the Czech ski team. ... by the way, she won the gold medal in snowboarding too this year, first and only person who ever did this ...
Not disrespectful in the least. She was such a rank outsider for this event, the commentators she at the beginning that she was making history just by competing in it. To win it was so totally unexpected, even to herself. To win gold in two separate events is a phenomenal achievement and she comes across more as a humble person than an arrogant one.
probably. None expected her to win. Just listen to the commentators, they dont even talk about her time when its clear at 1st time she is pretty much same time as current leader, 2nd time interval she had 0.18 sec lead they did not even notice. Kept talking about her snowboard results and technique in sking but dont even look at the time

Winter Olympic competition starts February 2
You are winner....its not a joke :) There will be great movie about this once.
I wonder how they handle the mechanical errors, where even the hundredth of a second matter.
Nowadays they could time to the thousandth of a second. But they have kept to the hundredth and just award ties.
Honestly, she's cute.

Anna wanted out after seeing 1
I think that it also depends on the quality of the skis (slippage) and the suits (air resistance)

Come on scotlund
Toughest competition
little tough to feel like the best in the field when they measure time down to the hundreths, you cant blink fast enough to tell the difference

am I the only one thinking ledeckas whole 'I can't believe what I did' reaction is kind of arrogant and disrespectful to her opponents?
Yes, you are. She said she had thought the timer was broken and she was confused.
Why should it be disrespectful? I really don't understand..
