Well Carl...as you know from my emails, I'm a cheap bastard. I bought a pair of "worn one time" Red Wing Chukkas 9215 (retail $330) for $100 on ebay. I sent them to Brian The Bootmaker as soon as I received them for a rebuild (new welt, Role Club half sole, Role Club low stacked heel.) $240 including return shipping. I bought a pair of the Silverado 8” Lumberjack last year after seeing your video. I had the plastic welt replaced with a leather welt because the plastic cracked after about 6 months. The interior plastic toe caps have also broken down - eg. I have to push the toe back into shape from the inside if I collapse it by kneeling, etc. Otherwise, the boots are great. I hope you see this Carl, you should get into/review some northampton boots if you haven't already. Tricker's, Grenson, Sanders, Barker and such, make some of the best boots you can buy, dollar for dollar.
@@CarlMurawski whoa, you did see it. well I hope you see this one too. Be really, really careful with trickers because their lasts are all over the place. I have three pairs of trickers. I have a pair of belgrave (cap toe adalaide oxford), abingdon (NST derby in museum calf) and a scott boot. All sizes in UK, the belgrave is in 7.5, the abingdon 8 and the scott boot in 9. Do a large amount of research. That said the materials are top grade. My Scott boots have enough wear on them that the toplifts have been changed but there is almost no visible creasing on the vamp. Their hybrid chrome tan/veg tan leather is magic.
I’ve had my eyes on the Wesco Mister Lou engineer boots for a while now. I am still trying to decide between them and the John Lofgren engineers. The natural veg tans are nice but the red brown John Lofgrens are stunning.
Good shit man! Thanks for all the work you up into your videos. I'm a big PNW fan but am in love with my Grant Stones. I have to say it, better finishing than all 6 pairs of my White's and Nicks.
Yes, I’d agree for sure. My Grant Stones are all exquisitely finished too, if the PNW makers could get that down I’d say they’d be a notch above. I’ve heard that Wesco is the best in terms of finishing.
@@CarlMurawski I've heard that too. They certainly have the most attractive double row stitch welt. Even better looking than Viberg's double row stitch welt. I've never been able to get the fit right in Wesco's (my fault, not theres) so I've never tried them. The Warren is a beauty of a boot though.
Work America Wellington is supposed to be a good cheap engineer boot from what I read on the vintage engineer boots blog. It looks a little like Role Club.
I just bought a pair of Factory Seconds of Parkhurst. Big upgrade over Thursday, only worn a few times, still a bit of break in but definitely recommend. My next boot is going to be a Nicks or Grant Stone, but would purchase Parkhurst again.
It's also about _with whom_ you are spending your money. Who are you supporting and do you value their time, craft, and effort? That one guy over in small town America or Japan or...you name it It's hard to argue with the quality and construction of a Grant Stone in comparison to others at half the price----yes, Viberg, that means you of course. Viberg is not one guy but it's really really a small company. Once we take away impressions of exclusivity (warranted or otherwise), there is an economics and a politics of consumer goods. There is the issue of supporting artisan craft and what that means. Touchy subject, dangerous real estate but it's often the reason things are cheaper---but sometimes no less the product. Truth to tell, I think that if you're not conflicted about this, maybe you should be, some. It's not just boots, as you well know.
Its crazy how much prices have jumped since this. Also the lack of discounts because why give discounts when you already can't get the materials you need for normal inventory? Sucks.
Carl, I'm not saying you've bought too many boots. But it looks as though the power company has turned your lights off. Don't get me wrong, I admire your tenacity in continuing to create valuable content during this 'dark' time for you. haha I dig your vids. Guess you're experimenting with a shadowy look?
I got a pair of monkey/roofer boots from Ray at Renav Boots Co for $275.00... Custom made boots, with cowhide leather, made to my foot specifications... Honestly the best quality at the cheapest price of all of the Indonesian boot makers..
Ebay is also an amazing option if your looking for quality boots for cheap. Usually $100-$200 cheaper than buying straight from any brand and most times they've only been worn once... Also, if your looking for a cheap alternative to red wing mocs, they sell Herman Survivor moc toes on Walmart's website for $60!
@@CarlMurawski indeed. i just got that one. also the landon captoe or the alpine captoe boot are very good alternatives. i just got the alpine for 199, a much better boot than tbe thursday captains.
I should Buy a pair of nicks boots right now since I'm not working. So that later when I start working in construction or in a heavy warehouse job, I'll have them on stand by ready to wear. Rather then buying cheap boots, that I'll probably need replacing in a month or 3. Do u think this is a good idea.
Carl the styles you show capture the attention of viewers from many age group. These styles are timeless. But here is my problem, I get a urge to buy everything you show. But I am still in college. Any suggestions ?? 😶
Hahaha understandable man. It’s that impulse which has gotten plenty of people in trouble! My advice is to have a separate account where you just save as much as you can over time. When the time comes you can get something great!
@@ChandraShekar-pr9hy Definitely good advice. I have my paychecks direct deposited into multiple banks and multiple accounts with each one having a different purpose.
Have you seen the adtec logger that comes in around 70 dollars? I would wager you get what you pay for, but they look real good. Compared to the chippewa. The adtec actually looks better. I'm picking up some Nick's once I'm through the Vermont heating season. Unfortunately I destroyed my chippewas and am stuck wearing an old pair. I was thinking of picking up a pair of these to get me through till March or April. I can't drop 5 bills on boots. When I'm filling my 🛢 tank every month and need to keep my cash reserves up. Just in case my furnace shits the bed when it's thirty below zero.
I've owned Vibergs for almost 10 years now. I've had both my pairs resoled. I think where Viberg wins is their choices of lasts. I've never seen anyone put so much effort into providing last options as Brett Viberg. The Vibergs you showed in the beginning also have Shinki horsehide, which adds a lot to the cost. And actually that's another cool thing about Viberg; the options of leather. I also own RW GT and RW Iron Rangers. Both are great boots but quality is not on par with Viberg (not expected to be) and they are also not as comfortable. My 2 cents.
@@apilkey I've never owned the Wolverine but have had Red Wings, which are about the same level of quality (about). Vibergs are quite a step up in construction and quality. They don't use cork for example but thicker more layers of leather for the sole. Is it worth almost twice the price? That's up to the individual. For me it is.
@@iKone911 Thanks I’ve owned both the Red Wings and Wolverine and definitely preferred the looks of the Wolverines for a casual boot. Plus everyone has Red Wings and they’re super common where I’m at so the Wolverines were more unique. The 1000 mille Cap Toe isn’t sold in Canada and it’s like $1,000 to order online and try and get shipped so I figured I’d go with Viberg this time as it’s around the same price for me. I should be getting them in the mail next week so looking forward to them hopefully they fit as I didn’t go with the custom fit option.
@@apilkey You made the right choice. At that price it's a no brainer (not to go with Wolverine). Here in the US it's much cheaper so more of a decision. Viberg is higher quality anyway and when it's time to rebuild you won't be shipping to the US.
Interesting that Wolverine claims their 1000 Mile boots are made in the USA. Either that is inaccurate, or another US based boot company is making them. Wolverine sold their last US factory over a year ago (to Original SWAT). I wonder who is making their 1000 Miles now!
I've been looking for a lower cost alternative to the Alden Indie boot. Years ago I had a chukka made by Florsheim with the toe panel. Really cheap, didn't hold up but looked cool. It looks like one day I'm gonna have too dig deep and spring for Aldens.
@@CarlMurawski Just did thanks! The Brass was just ok, then I got a look at the Ottawa and yes, very close the the Florsheim's I spoke of. The Ottawa is a very nice looking boot. Thanks again.
You about as close to a workbook expert as I know of. Therefore, can you recommend a workbook for my situation? My feet are average, nothing weird going on, I work at Home Depot on a concrete floor with much standing and walking. I currently wear a Wolverine pigskin with a lug sole and I’m pretty happy with them. My orthotics fit well in them and all. They have lots of miles on them and I need a supplemental pair to switch off with. Any help and suggestion is appreciated. Love the vids.
Sure man, I've worked in a lot of buildings with concrete floors as an electrician and you'll be best served by a boot with soft soles. Ideally a wedge sole so you can distribute the pressure across your entire footbed. Concrete is so unforgiving that it can be murder on your knees, hips, etc. The Vibram wedge is awesome, but so are the Christy wedge boots from Red Wing or Thorogood. I believe Danner makes a Bull Run with a wedge sole too. If thats just not an option for you, I'd look at the honey Vibram soles. They're softer but keep the 100 lug design for traction and a more traditional look.
Tried them all, and nothing for me, nothing, holds and secures my feet like a Viberg boot or comes close to the solid construction they offer. I can walk all day, my feel always feel completely supported, and always hate taking them off as they have such great support all around. While they are expensive, for me, they are worth every penny. Only other boots I own that are for a little more dressier situation are Alden's, another great boot in my opinion.
Hello I love your content. Have you ever looked at Truman boots? I’m looking at the Truman Java waxed or the nicks urban logger... i can’t decide. I bought a pair of iron rangers as my first pair of “nice” boots, and it started a an obsession.
I've been wanting a pair of Nick's Urban Loggers for a while now. I told myself that as soon as there's some sort of sale I'd buy a pair, but the price has only gone up 😅
Yup. Don't expect much in the way of sales with them. I was waiting on a big Black Friday deal last year and, after all the buildup, it was just 10% off of one less popular model. Oh well...
Curious how the Thursday Vanguards you got a few years ago have held up.... I just put in an order for some and there's no going back, but I am curious how well they stand the test of time. Does the leather hold up? How is the poron insole? Etc. I got three years of walking out of my Iron Rangers, I'm hoping for similar life out of these.
i went to check on Chippewa after you mentioned it. almost everything is out of stock and it seems like its been that way for a while now. are they winding down operations?
Thanks for the interest in our footwear Andrew, Our standard fit is a 2E and true to the brannock, and if you have a high instep then going a half size up may offer a better fit. Give us a shout if you have further questions.
I was trying to dig up some comparable options but all I really came up with was the Viberg 310 last. That’s the only boot which even looks close but it’s still too expensive IMO. It’s just impossible unless you go vintage and get really lucky to find that squared-toe service boot look that Kreosote is known for.
A little off topic but on the Kreosote boots he puts a unique looking outsole. I've tried finding it online but can't make out the brand. What is the outsole called? And is it that much better than vibram outsoles or is it partially for looks?
“”Then again, he also had a Nickelback tattoo””….

Great video guy! I’m a little late but I appreciate some of these alternatives. Had heard of most but some were new to me!
Thanks man!
Very nicely done
I’ve had my eyes on the Wesco Mister Lou engineer boots for a while now. I am still trying to decide between them and the John Lofgren engineers. The natural veg tans are nice but the red brown John Lofgrens are stunning.
Really enjoyed Brother, be safe and BLESSED
The Warren is a beauty of a boot though.
i love your videos god bless you
Thank you brother!
Best video you've done! Thanks for the recommendations
Work America Wellington is supposed to be a good cheap engineer boot from what I read on the vintage engineer boots blog. It looks a little like Role Club.
Yes! I want to try that out.
The White KLouds are amazing. When I have to the money I'll be buying a pair.
Good reviews, good comparisons and good job!
Love this list, fantastic video Carl. I would also throw in Parkhurst for some good value made in America boots.
Good call! I slept on that one. Made in NY I believe!
I just bought a pair of Factory Seconds of Parkhurst. Big upgrade over Thursday, only worn a few times, still a bit of break in but definitely recommend. My next boot is going to be a Nicks or Grant Stone, but would purchase Parkhurst again.
The Nickelback tattoo comment !! 🤣🤣🤣
Very true man. Good point!
“Then again, he had a Nickelback tattoo” 😂😂😂 Also, GREAT video. I loved the whole idea and the suggestions.
Hard to look nice and do manual labor. I genuinely love your videos
Idk I love my Nick's. I will definitely get one of these more casual styles some day
Muy buena información.
I would add Unmarked Boots from Mexico in there. Gold rated leather from Lefarc, classic designs, hard to beat prices, plus free shipping.
Very good call!
Awesome video,
keep em coming!
Imperium, and Prof. Barnes boots are also a great substitute
I love the boot videos! Hopefully you can go to the origin main factory and do a video??? Fingers crossed!
It’s not that I won’t throw down 6 bills for great boots but waiting the 6months !!! Ahhh! I don’t know man, I’m not the most patient guy 😅
Thank you Carl! I have wanted this for so long.
I’m glad I could deliver!!!
Have you heard of the Red wing harvester, it's only in the European market but it's a beautiful boot. Style #2943 and # 2944.
Are logger boots actually useful on a job site? I mean, they look like the boots KISS wear. Are they comfortable ?
I love them. They're great for uneven muddy ground. They help with my posture, too.
They are made for back-country work, not a warehouse floor or working steel. Boots are designed to fill a need, not just as fashion statements.
Here in Algeria you can't find a real decent pair of boots even if you can afford money.. You're so lucky friend
Nice video. I think Thursday Vanguards (made in usa line) are closer to the vibergs than the captains are though
Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill is an interesting alternative.
Yes! I forgot that one!
@@CarlMurawski indeed. i just got that one. also the landon captoe or the alpine captoe boot are very good alternatives. i just got the alpine for 199, a much better boot than tbe thursday captains.
especially now when you look you can get them for around $175.
Do you have a video on how to properly wear boots with jeans and other pants?
I should Buy a pair of nicks boots right now since I'm not working. So that later when I start working in construction or in a heavy warehouse job, I'll have them on stand by ready to wear. Rather then buying cheap boots, that I'll probably need replacing in a month or 3. Do u think this is a good idea.
Thursday boots 😎
Thursday crew represent!
Thanks Carl😂
My 2 cents.
Just bought a pair of Vibergs, how do they compare to Wolverine 1000 Mile for a casual boot?
Silverado boots are good I have almost a year in mine could you cut some in half?
I could give it a try!
@@CarlMurawski right on! Looking forward to it
Ask RoseAnvil to do this on his channel!
Have you checked out the Grant Stone Brass Boot?
@@CarlMurawski Just did thanks! The Brass was just ok, then I got a look at the Ottawa and yes, very close the the Florsheim's I spoke of. The Ottawa is a very nice looking boot. Thanks again.
Thanks dude!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
Hell I paid 30 bucks for danner quarry 8 clean at a flea market most bang for the buck lol!
Can you please do a review on 1620 work wear
Do a video on wesco jobmasters
Coming soon, my man!
Great video again, but I just now noticed that camera angle change in your videos and I think it is weird. I don`t know if its just me xD
I love the angle change!
Nicks Traveler 🥾 review? lol
Hello, thanks for your informative videos. May i know if Lone Wolf boots are good for its prices? Particularly the wireman model. Thanks !
Whaaaat? What is this Thorogood Dodgeville in which you speak? To the website I must go!
I think they may be discontinued, but check out the third party sellers. You can probably still get a pair!
Dude I'm looking for some quality harness boots. I want to learn more about that type.
Buy the Nicks, you will not regret it.
Hello I love your content. Have you ever looked at Truman boots? I’m looking at the Truman Java waxed or the nicks urban logger... i can’t decide. I bought a pair of iron rangers as my first pair of “nice” boots, and it started a an obsession.
Yes, definitely considered getting a pair for sure!
Where to buy zerrows or flame panda here in USA
I've been wanting a pair of Nick's Urban Loggers for a while now. I told myself that as soon as there's some sort of sale I'd buy a pair, but the price has only gone up 😅
Yup. Don't expect much in the way of sales with them. I was waiting on a big Black Friday deal last year and, after all the buildup, it was just 10% off of one less popular model. Oh well...
Yeah, they’ve gotten more popular and the prices have increased. Still worth the $$$ though!
@@CarlMurawski have you seen Nick's new Overlander boots?
What About white boots? Do you recommend?
What boots or brand for wide feet? At least EEEE or wider.
I bought a pair of the Jim Green's. They got very little use and the leather started cracking. Disappointing overall.
Do a review on some limmers please
one other thing for viberg boots that the cheaper alternatives lack... worldwide shipping. 😉
I think you need to go third party (in store). Their website is badddddd.
The Chippewa website is an absolute mess.
What are the Jim Green's like on width? I tend to wear a wide or double-wide depending on the brand.
Thanks for the interest in our footwear Andrew, Our standard fit is a 2E and true to the brannock, and if you have a high instep then going a half size up may offer a better fit. Give us a shout if you have further questions.
Thank you!
I’m a bit surprised kreosote wasn’t mentioned
I was trying to dig up some comparable options but all I really came up with was the Viberg 310 last. That’s the only boot which even looks close but it’s still too expensive IMO. It’s just impossible unless you go vintage and get really lucky to find that squared-toe service boot look that Kreosote is known for.
A little off topic but on the Kreosote boots he puts a unique looking outsole. I've tried finding it online but can't make out the brand. What is the outsole called? And is it that much better than vibram outsoles or is it partially for looks?
No Indy's?
