Just keep your seatbelt on and you can open door with it in reverse. I have no problem looking out with the belt on
Unplugging the connector on the door will affect the windows. Even though the control is in the middle the window motor is not connected :)
The TazerJL with take care of that auto park safety feature, and the stop/start issue.
The accident that killed Anton Yelchin in his Jeep Grand Cherokee had a shifter that returned to center and was not intuitive. He is not the only person that thought it was in park when it was in gear. Due to that design flaw and as a result in the settlement FCA was forced to add the auto park feature to every vehicle.
Never understand why people get the hard top then complain about taking it off. Soft tops are great, no leaks and warm in the winter and cool in the summer and the 2018 and newer go up and down with ez.
Probably to many bad experiences in our youth with 60’s era convertibles. And old stories of earlier Jeeps misfortunes with soft tops. Personally I like the hard top. Tried driving at 60-65 once with the panels out way more noise than I care for. Took the whole top off once to put in sound insulation did not drive it just of, install & back on. Come to think of it, Rob did a video on it. Back in the late 90s wife had a mustang GT convertible as you say it worked fine.
@@randallupton3622 I had a 1972 Cj5 with canvas top and door's, that was an experience. I currently have a 2004 TJ/LJ and that tops original and works amazing BUT it's got zipper's and it's a pain to lower so I don't but it's warm in winter and cool in summer and zero leak's my JL top is great in every way and is simple and quick to raise and lower. I'm old but personally if I'm gonna have a Jeep it's gotta be a soft top if I wanted a nice SUV their are plenty out there to choose from.
@@rodneyavery3537 🤔 probably why they offer them both ways. There will be some who wan one or the other. It is all a matter of preference.
The auto start/stop "feature" is a pet peeve of mine no matter what vehicle it's on, hate it, PITA. Installed the auto stop eliminator within first couple of weeks I owned my Gladdy, problem solved. As for the roof, I don't remove the Freedom panels and will likely never remove the rear section. I have seen a device, a lift or crane sort of thing, that you can use to lift off the rear top section, but then what do you do with it? You'd have to have a secure place to store it so that it doesn't get damaged.
The stop on reverse with the door open thing is a little weird but I rarely want to back with a door ope so it doesn’t come up. On that note while I am a few years older than you I like the cameras for backing (also a huge fan of adaptive cruise control, that you are less enamored with) so not all old guys dislike the new stuff. On the other hand auto stop start was designed in the devils workshop as a plague on all! 😀
Lol! Auto Stop needs to be exorcised! 👿
I believe this is a thing with dodge/jeep/Chrysler. I had a challenger before now having my gladiator and it would do the same thing
@@robmotiveplus Especially with the diesel engine...shutting down a hot turbo after exiting the highway at the 1st light you come to is not a good idea. I may be buying one but would definitely disable that 'feature'.
I have a 2022 Gladiator Rubicon and have not had any of the problems you talked about yet. I live on the Washington coast and have no plans on removing the top or doors as the weather isn't that warm. Thanks for the video.
Although, I don’t have my gladiator anymore, I did absolutely hate the auto stop, and the hard stop on driving with the door open. I’m one that will open my door and look at while back especially if I was pulling a trailer. I hardly ever use the camera for backing. I had the top off of my Jeep one time, but you are correct it was too hard to take off. I chose the hard top for security reasons, not for specifically taking the top off. I hate to say it, but I don’t really miss the gladiator. I do still enjoy your videos though.
What did you replace it with?
I replaced it with a GMC 2500 HD because I needed towing capacity, as I purchased a 36’ travel trailer. I have a sunroof and sliding back glass so it’s the same feel that I had with the gladiator on a much larger scale. My husband owns a 2 door Willys wrangler soft top, so I can still get my “Jeep fix” when needed!
I am really digging that raspberry... I wouldn't drive one as a daily but I do love it.
I have 30,000 on my 2020 Sport S with the 7-inch U-Connect it has done it 3 times.
Must be a software update🤔
@@robmotiveplus My thoughts exactly
I don't think the safety feature is for the driver. I think it is to prevent you from backing out of lets say a garage with you door open and ripping it off. That has happened many times to people. If they were concerned with the driver safety, they wouldn't have doors that were removable. Also, You do lose your windows too. The motor for the window is in the door and gets it's power from that wiring harness.
My BMW has the same function for reverse. If the door is open, the car will not back up. Safety first.
OMG! The stop on reverse and auto-start thing both bug the Hell out of me!
I agree😡
If the auto stop/start ignition fails/breaks can you manually restart as if you never had that feature? You know like the good ole days before that 😅
Ess adds about 1-2 mpg. You see… emissions come from burning gas… derp.
Aloha and good 👍 afternoon 🔅 Rob. I guess Stellantis North America Jeep made this feature to give the consumers safe ventures. Yet, the features are unique that we must accept 👍 as you pointed out in this video segment. I don mind these funky features as you pointed out because the Jeep models are very unique. Great video 📼 on this topic Rob.🤜🤛🤙🏉🤲📼🎓🌟👀🔅👍🤠🙌👐🏡💰😎😄🤓🔍💪🐕🐶⛅😇
Eric the president of our 4x4 club got sick of that battery in his jlu he ripped it out lol
Manual transmission doesn't have the nanny door open reverse lockout crap.
Some of those would definitely be a little annoying
Living with a gladiator is awesome. My only wish is it was a foot or 2 shorter
A foot or two shorter? It’d be underground 😬
I bought a cheap seat belt plug and it cancels the door open disable.
I've never had a software update during my driving.
They should have done 4 freedom panels.
Rumored for 2024.
What is that orange thing you have on the inside above your head in the video?
The sun screen🤔
Jeep has some hard top patents in the works. The issues your addressing may be a thing of the past.
There was an actor killed when his Grand Cherokee ran him over/pinned him. He played the Russian (Chekhov) in the new Star Trek movies.
Think it was a wrangler, stick shift🤷🏻♂️
@@MikeSmith-ey7ku huh, thought it was a Grand Cherokee. Either way, likely the cause.
JEEP, PLEASE reverse the Auto Stop button so when you want it ON you have to push the button. Having the default the way it is is annoying and I don't know anyone who likes it.
I will say the top is awkward… and you seem like a little guy. But I take the top off the JKU JLU AND. Gladiator by myself and gently set it down and do the same putting it on. If I have a helper tall enough, I gladly use them, but it’s pretty tall.
2 years 26k miles no dash lights at all….ever
That is great to hear👍
Way, way overpriced. For 65k plus for a Rubicon or Mojave Gladiator, there are better, cheaper options in the mid size truck market from other manufacturers.
I hate my gladiator over price pos
Why did you buy it🤔
It look like a nice vehicle
There is a lot of I don't want to actually know what my vehicle does crying here with ZERO useless info for actual consumers. Just lots of whahhhh, I don't know what to do cause I have zero mechanical understanding
Oh, and the auto stop IS for fuel, it's due fleet fuel economy based on the city loop test. If you're gonna pontificate at least research before running your mouth
Right back at ya! Auto stop is for emissions😵💫
