One subtle change you missed: water has velocity now, and water wheels both generate power based on velocity and reduce the speed of water that goes through them slightly.
I might be very wrong But in the episodes before the update it already looked like that Because there where often moments where not all of his waterweels where spinning
I was going to say, the mechanical pump takes 700hp, but if you have enough water wheels, then you could have infinite power still. I wonder if someone can engineer a waterwheel circle that drops 4 blocks and circles back to the top and generates more than 700hp continuously
@@adamt195 If the game devs abide by the law of conservation of energy and perpetual motion then this idea would be impossible. I'm willing to try tho!
@@THEJPIndustry There was kind of a system before but the old water wheels generated constant power as long as water was flowing, the new water wheels are variable based on the actual flow rate
Bit of history... Cattails were an incredible food source for the Native Americans. The roots are almost all starch and can be crushed/ground up, rinsed, and dried to make a sort of flour. The pollen from the cattail also can be collected and added to things as a flavoring that is very nutritious. Early cattail tops can be eaten as is too. The 6" above the roots can also be cooked and it is said to taste like corn and looks sort of like a white celery. The stalks were burned for fuel. More modern dishes usually mix the starch is with flour about 50/50 to make the best breads, but you could make some stuff with just the starch. Acorns were another one. You can shell them and crush them then soak them in water for a 2-3 days, changing the water every day. Then dry and roast them and use them like nuts or grind them into a flour. Maple sap can also easily be collected and boiled down to make syrup (I think it is reduced 90%, so it takes a lot of sap and even more cooking). Some other saps can be drank straight as a refreshing lightly sweetened drink. There are tons of other foods that can be collect from the wild, like berries, roots, greens, mushrooms... that people still collect and make stuff out of. Morel mushrooms and rams (kind of a green onion/chive plant) as well as wild blueberries and raspberries. are still commonly collected in some rural areas for seasonal dishes.
The mechanical water pumps probably require so much power to avoid unlimited power schemes. You know; slithering artificial water canals full of waterwheels, with water pumps and dumps at the end and begining of the circuit facilitating constant and permanent water flow!!
It would need to be set up on a (max)slope to work around the new water mechanics. And having it be its own semi closed (water inflow to accountfor loss) system would help. However the length would probably need to scale half the map to be net positive, Or in simpler words, to produce more power than it uses.
With the mechanical water pump, you could build a canal that brings the water up into the reservoir without the need for manual labor, but given the height limit you might have to build a step ladder like system that brings the water up with multiple MWPs, but that will eat up a lot of power. You could run beaver wheels that could provide free power to the MWP.
@Adam Taylor iron teeth have a large water wheel, plus water wheels have a higher maximum output if you can get the water flowing fast enough, which is easy if my accidents are anything to go by.
An explanation for why plantin underwater plants requires them to be on the tile instd of above it; they are literally planting the thing in the tile underneath where the plant will be. You cant just put the seeds in the water and plant them, they need to dig up some of the dirt under the water and bury the seed
It would be cool of there was some lore that you discover as you build more knowledge buildings that trigger events, big hazards, and general world building. There are soooo many things the devs can do, like history of the humans and their downfall, the discovery of satellites that still orbit the earth at the zone where it's impossible to fall into the gravity well and burn up, small chunks of debris that don't burn up fully and you have a hazard event. And that's just with space, imagine the predator events you could do or maybe even discovering hazardous waste. Just so much possibilities, not all can be used like hazardous waste, dunno how that will be worked out, but I'm all for more lore! *gimme da lorrreee*
That would be the best update imaginable, as strange as that sounds. I like the idea of a centralized reservoir with a series of levees to stair-step the water down to different levels of farmland. Some could be just regular farmland while others can be one-deep floodplains. You could build it all right next to the source of water with a mechanical pump going up attached to a water dump to fill the reservoir.
On the thought / question "Can a perpetuum mobile be build using the new waterpump and waterwheels?": I'd say yes due to some experimentation I just did. I build a small basin that was filled with water using a water dump, from that basin water is pumped upward by the new pump into a U-shaped canal that harbors 8 waterwheels and empties back into the previously mentioned basis. I play forktails so I used Windmills to kickstart this whole contraption. The flow one Pump created when running at 100% (which was only possible due to the connected windmills) is just enough to get about 25 HP out of one waterwheel (my values ranged from 22 - 32), so lets go with 25. Since the pump requires 700HP you'd need 28 wheels just to run the pump alone before havesting any surplus energy, which make the whole installation (at least in my opinion) unfeasably large. Some other comments noted something about water flow speed, if there was the intention by the dev team that wheel one takes out a little flow speed, so wheel two runs slower and subsequently produces less power, this did not work out. From the first 4 wheels in my U-shaped canal the last in the line produced the most power. I could not try the whole thing with 28 wheels since to topography of the map I am playing on does not permit to do so without an insane amound of terraforming.
ya know, now that we have water based plants, I feel like they could add a water plant based race or something cool that has more water options, like buildings working under water. That'd be neat.
Instead of just going to space, a new modern or space age theme beaver race would be cool. So new buildings and uniforms or at least helmets and stuff. Though if they go to another planet or moon how are they going to handle water? It can freeze over? If it's mars the water levels drop faster?
Gotta love how he says "we need more than one of these engines" opens an engine and totally misses that engines produce 400hp now. Easy miss, but it made me giggle.
I really like this update. Adding renewable source for iron is great for potentially infinite gameplay on a single map, as well finally adding a way to pump water upwards a "layer". Opens up so many options. Beavers finally being able to swim is great too, instead of acting like the water is lava. Hopefully one day they add a faction that would live more traditionally as normal beavers, requiring damming large part of map and building partially underwater structures.
I'll wait for the final release, but if they don't make a mechanic where you can train your beavers to defend the colony against predators that attack in the night... I'll make a mod for it.
That would be awesome! And it would be cool of there was some lore that you discover as ypu build more knowledge buildings that trigger events, big hazards, and general world building
Sounds amazing. A few things though, with how fast the size of towns can Spiral out of control, all the maps would be too small. Having enemies enter from "random" points in the border would be very chaotic. But say if you made a wolf den, players would surround it, and just spawn kill.
I wish you could more finely control water flow. Like have a regulator to meter the water that drives water wheels during a drought at just the right rate. Water just drains too fast even at 0.5 floodgate increments. I just want to set a levee/dam as high water mark for overflow and have regulator at a low water mark.
You should build a fun district/holiday district using all the new things like the lido and mudbaths and observatories. But don't forget about the old lesiure things as well. Plus you could do a district dedicated to mining and everything Rio do with metal.
I was so amped about the mine, but was sad that I couldn’t add it to my existing game… so I hacked my save file, added an ore and loaded the save. 😬 it’s an awesome update!!
What if they add a victory conditions like in Civilization- ie the observatory is a prerequisite for a science victory- and launching a beaver to space is the winning move? The culture victory involves making a theme park, maybe a rollercoaster that travels around the map- the religious condition involves temples, monuments and religious texts- The economic condition could involve mining somehow and building a skyscraper and then domination(ish) could be greening the entire map for a full cycle.

just watched a documentary about real beavers and the game got to many things wrong about the beavers, irl beavers build dams from creeks so they can flood an area and then use this new pond as a shield against predators and they build their lodges in the in the pond created by the dam (separate structures) and the entry to the lodge is flooded and they swim and dive to enter their lodge
You should be able to make a large pond of standing water 1 tile deep that isn't fed from any source as farm land, because standing water doesn't stagnate, and also doesn't go away during a drought so long as nothing is sapping the water away. Which is how you expand green area with a little 1x1 pond and a water dump :D Therefore, a still pond made for water plants will never dry out.
"We could be building in the water this whole time" just made me lmao at the idea that the only thing that was stopping you from forcin them to grill potatoes under water was the fact you didnt kno you cud xD Aside: Challenge idea, an entirely underwater beaver settlement where they cannot build anything (except dynamite and maybe stairs/scaffolds if needed; and paths to the dynamite placing spots if needed, oh the water wheel may need built partially not on the water, but it counts as in water for this) unless its built in the water initially. Initial goal is to make it so your beavers stay submerged even during the dry season. See how fast you can get that set up so that they stay wet all year long. From there, idk... Just build as normal and see how much you can do under the sea (okay river).
