    I hope at some point the European scene for time attack can get to the point of being noticeable on the world stage. I'm really quite jealous that the Americans get to play at COTA. Hopefully at some point in the UK, we can get Silverstone GP as a round.

    Personally I love the TA cars that look stock, but underneath are just total insanity. Gobstopper Subaru comes to mind, along with another GC8 called Impizm. Mines R34 or a few other skylines come to mind as well....or hell even the Yaris is downright impressive fast now. I know in order to win, you still have to go pretty crazy, but I just love seeing teams setup almost a "barrier" if you will to try and surpass whether it's mechanical drivetrain engineering, no aero, or operating within a price budget, yet still come out and kick ass.

    It's funny to think that this whole thing started somehow from the Wangan battles of the mid 80s and 90s. From there, the Tsukuba battles and finally Time Attack. Its the raw nature of the sport that I love the most.

    Across the pond in the UK, we have a form of racing that we call 'Sprinting', not to be confused with sprint cars in the US.
    It's basically Time Attack, but you have a standing start, normally the pit exit, to just before the pit entrance.
    Differing to Time Attack, the top cars in Sprinting mostly stem from Hillclimb single seaters, with Simon Bainbridge in the only carbon tub silhouette type car, the SBR Chrono V8.
    There is a lot more pressure to get the perfect lap, as you don't have many chances throughout the day, so it isn't the best "bang for your buck" type of motorsport.
    This is the sort of thing to expect: ruclips.net/video/kMQAd1qS59A/видео.html

      @@SydneyWonder the question is why is Sundae Cup not time attack? Why is an entry level class with stiff competition not time attack? Everyone in that class is chasing time within a set of rules just like the rest of the classes. I get the cars are not rocket ships but even in Japanese Time Attack there are classes for even Kei Cars to compete that are still entertaining and the cars are still quick for what they are. They race Suzuki Cappuccinos and Honda Beats and those cars are slower than a Honda Fit. Even Spoon ran at Buttonwillow with a low powered Fit. Point is if a class is gaining popularity and has stiff competition within the class rules and people are determined to go faster then it’s apart of the Time Attack show too. Those Fits are not making power but how they are using that power within their rules fits into the so called spirit of Time Attack just as much as the high budget $100,000 or more S15s and the near $1,000,000 Porsche 968. At the end of the day, everyone that is chasing the clock is part of the spirit of Time Attack in a way.

      @@jodyjo_gd3 Great question. You won't see any stock-ish Kei cars at Kei Attack Tsukuba. They are modded and tuned into tiny beasts that represent the absolute pinnacle of what the platform can do, just like everything else at Attack Tsukuba.
      From the beginning, Time Attack has been about tuning cars into "self-built racing machines - with the goal to put down the ~outright~ fastest time of the event, in a road-going car"- 2:15 . With Sundae Cup rules being restrictive to stock-ish base model cars, it is too broad + simply does not allow for what makes a real Time Attack car. Time Attack is & has always been wow factor, it's aspirational, pushing limits, and breaking track records.
      A class may be popular, have stiff competition, and be chasing time... That just makes it racing, or time trials. Time Attack is a special class with an innate meaning of its own. It harms the sport if you dilute this rich meaning & heritage, and allow it to blend away into lower divisions. What for?
      Think of it like F1 and F3. They're clearly obvious, distinct and different levels of racing. And that's okay. You wouldn't demand F1 expand to include F3 just to make people feel included and 'grow the sport'. That would dilute the division and blur away F1's meaning as the pinnacle of achievement and possibility. Instead we uphold the F1 division in its excellence and meaning, which means lower entrants get to work toward it & aspire to enter into that level. Breaking records takes hard work, commitment, & investment.
      POINT IS::: Yes Sundae Cup is racing, yes it's timed racing, it's competitive, it's entertaining, and yes it's great that it exists for newcomers! It is not, however, real Time Attack.

      @@AUEQUE I appreciate you for having an open mind and I understand both sides. I love the conversation here. My view is Sundae Cup was a joke and a meme. It’s inspiration was from Gran Turismo’s first race event aka the Sunday Cup.
      When I used to go to GTA events, I always looked for fast guys that made their cars work with as little money spent as possible. For example the Guess Work Honda Civic EG that had a stock J32 V6 swapped in and it managed to get on some podiums despite it being a poor man’s setup. It was always fun to watch that guy push this bucket of a Civic against the guys that threw money at their cars. That guy was my inspiration. I could never afford a nice car with a swap. Once I saw Sundae Cup come out, it made getting into the sport as a driver possible for me. Now I want to keep developing the handling of the Fit and go fast in the class without gaining a single horsepower for now. It’s a perfect starter series for me and yes I will eventually step up to Club TR if the future allows it. A K24 swap may be possible lol.
      I feel like Sundae Cup should at least be acknowledged simply because it’s an official class of Gridlife. Views on whether Sundae Cup is or isn’t the spirit of Time Attack should not get in the way of that. It’s apart of the show and we love these goofy cars on track. Eventually some of us will progress to that higher class. We will continue to chase that perfect lap with what we have like the other classes. I’ll give your channel a subscribe.

      @@jodyjo_gd3 Wonderful comment, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience & views. It actually gives me more interest in Sundae Cup class and curious what great stuff might be going on over there.
      Maybe there's a way to acknowledge Sundae Cup drivers of Gridlife, while also respecting & upholding the integrity of true Time Attack as a class distinction.
      Good conversation here. I agree that it's all about pushing the best you can out of what you have! Wishing you all the progress & fun on reaching your racing goals.

    It will get ruined eventually. A billionaire will come along one day and ask Adrian Newey to build a Time Attack car, they'll spend $100m in the Red Bull wind tunnel and he'll set records that will never get beaten unless someone else spends that much money.

    This video fails to define how Sundae Cup is not TA. It does say TA has classes with rules, against a clock. Sundae Cup is a class with rules against a clock.

    • @SydneyWonder
      @SydneyWonder Год назад +6

      This video shows how TA is so much more than just "a class with rules against a clock." Time trials =/= Time Attack (not equal). The spirit of time attack we see here includes History. Modification. Record Breaking Speeds. There's so much great info in this video, maybe try watching a few it more times, I think you'll get it :)

      @@DeweyWRX If you're asking if it's because Sundae Cup is a mostly stock class, then, well, yeah, that is exactly why it is not a Time Attack class. lol

    • @Taylouurrr
      @Taylouurrr Год назад

      @@SydneyWonder Sundae Cup has history, modifications, and record breaking speeds given the constraints of the class. If GTA can redefine TA into "american" TA with domestics. GL can redifine TA into "Slow". Its good driving. Good competition. And good fun.
      I think because its more about the driver than the car it doesn't fit the standard junk-measuring ego-building IG-posting clout-chasing "drivers" in american TA.

    • @Taylouurrr
      @Taylouurrr Год назад

      @@DeweyWRX if its really about hp, aero and outright speed then we should all be building F1 cars with no constraints. F1 cars makes all the fast TA cars look like sundae cup. So where is the definition of the upper and lower window of TA?
