Our hugely popular recorded webinar with Mr Diederik Bulters - Consultant Neurosurgeon entitled ‘Everything you wanted to know about Cavernoma, but were too afraid to ask’.
Mr Bulters gives an excellent introduction into the basics of Cavernoma and answers many of the daily questions anyone living with or affected by Cavernoma may have. If you are newly diagnosed, interested in finding out more about symptoms and effects of Cavernoma, have questions or decisions to make around Surgery, then this is a great starting point for sourcing information.
A cavernoma is made up of abnormal blood vessels and can be found in the brain and/or spinal cord and looks like a raspberry.
1 person in 600, in the UK, has a brain cavernoma without symptoms (asymptomatic). This equates to roughly 90,000 people - enough to fill Wembley Stadium. A spinal cavernoma is rarer than a brain cavernoma.

This is a recording of one of our webinars given by our members, guests and medical experts over the period of 2020

This is the best information I have ever heard about this diagnosis and all the aspects that come with it. I was going to ask my nuero all these questions and you have answered them for me already. Much appreciated

This has been very informative! I had a question about combat sports and cavernomas. I have a hypothalamic Cavernoma that has bled and want to know your thoughts on this situation? One surgeon I've seen has said flat out no and one has said there's no evidence to say it'll become worse from head trauma...but I'm still not sure. 😅

May I ask you, Is it advisable to be vaccinated for Covid if I have a cavernoma? Thanks

You can find our advice for the vaccine here; cavernoma.org.uk/news/coronavirus-vaccine-advice/
We strongly advise our members and anyone with a Cavernoma take the vaccine and any advised boasters.

If I have a cavernoma in my frontal lobe. As I age will I have a greater chance of a serious bleed? I'm told this is inoperable or not worth the risk.
