- Taking a look at the rf power meter. Explaining how the power can be read, Talking about the different kind of meters. A good quality meter is essential to a properly setup radio system. If you do not set up your radio system correctly you will burn up radios and amps. Crucial piece of equipment. Do not set up a system and not use a quality meter to check SWR's.
Love the videos on radio equipment. You really do a great job of explaining and showing everything in a no-nonsense format. Subscribed! Please make more!
BeenJamin James Thanks.
Yes. Exactly. Thanks for watching.
I have always liked the cross needles meters but I too have used Dosy. A few watts mean nothing as an over all reading unless you are driving something, I will take swing over dead key anytime and if you are seeing forward swing on an avg your pep will be greater. It's downward audio that you do not want. SWR is vary important A high SWR will push the output power back into the radio causing the finial to heat up and blow. Thanks for the info
Just a relative measurement..the RMS and pep or differ..but I prefure to use RMS when running a radio ... At carrier ... And somtimes use pep with amp inline to see the top end..but it cone down to preference ...truly. It's operator preference
I use the palstar to get my true readings. After that I put the dosy tr 1000 back on in my truck. It's a little lower but more for reference then anything.
Howdy Albee... How's the ticker doing? Im at 10 years now since the heart attack and the stent implant and still kicking. Everything in moderation...
Good explanation on the reflected power info. Basically, though, an inexpensive meter is fine for anything under 200 watts and just clip that center lead until you get it as low as you dare go for. Or use an electronic tuner LOL... That's the easy way. Lower reflected power = higher actual output. Even connectors affect SWR.
While I agree that having a meter to check standing wave ratio,I would say the most important part of any radio station is the antenna.
MINITMANRADIONETWORK I agree. But no matter how good your antenna is you still need to to verify SWR. And many do not even know SWR is a part of radio station setup. Thnx for watching
It's been a while since this was posted, so I'm interested in which of the two meters you're more happy with and why. I've used to have the DOSY TC several years ago, and it seemed okay, but I didn't have another meter to compare. I do see the value in having both as confidence check.
Daniel Ortego Iam very happy with Dosy. It does no show you BS watts. There are meters that are high swingers. People like to see high numbers on their audio swing. I.e. "Bull skit" watts. I have owned them. So for a decent priced meter I do like Dosy.
Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I left the hobby several years ago, but now I can't get out that much, so I'm starting over.
where you buy your Dosy? I am looking for one I am in Canada.
Daniel Ortego Ham Radio Outlet or about any CB web site. Good luck.
Daniel Ortego and
How accurate is the watt reading compared to a Bird? I am looking for a consumer priced range SWR watt meter that is at least 10% accurate, any tips?
I have the plaster 2000 great meter. It's not to far off from a bird.
gotta have a dummy load to go with that meter!
Trash that Dosy. The Palstar is a much better meter. Real Pep readings.
