I never noticed at all until now cause I was into the episode but I was flipping out now hearing it.

Honestly that flashback to the boys when they were little was so damn cute it makes me wish that we got a full episode taking place when they were younger, seeing their dynamics first forming, color association, meeting April(since the writers did say they’ve known each other for years but we never did get that story of how they met), and maybe even how Splinter was handling the early years of being mutated into a rat and having to be a single father to 4 mutant turtles all while trying to keep them safe and giving them a better childhood than what he had(he might’ve not done the best job with raising them but we can all agree that he does genuinely love them)
If we ever get a season 3, a turtle tots episode (i.e. how they met april) is HIGH on that wishlist!

They feel like such a real family. And Splinter may not have been the best dad, but he feels like a dad. I could imagine going to a classmate's house and meeting a dad like him.
@@mostlyimpulsive3462 Preferably, an hour-long special, starting from when they took off from Draxum's lab, then to how they found the lair, to how they got their names, and yes, How/when they met April.
I think its super interesting that the head of the Hamato ghosts has the same VA as 2012 splinter, because it really gives us a good look at the difference in ideologies between the two splinters.
2012!Splinter was near obsessed with tradition, and doing things the "proper" way- to the point where he was somewhat alright with his sons sacrificing themselves for the greater good (as seen where he literally tells leo that he must be willing to do whatever it takes to win against shredder even if that involves dying).
This is heavily contrasted by Rise!Splinter, who at first turns to the ancient scrolls out of desperation- he's never had to deal with a crisis on this magnitude, and has no idea what to do. He quickly turns against the "traditional way", however, realising that ancient values and methods aren't a "one size fits all" or end all be all.

And so is shredder! >:D I find it rather poetic because in Rise, Karai started the Hamato clan after her father went crazy in the dark armor. So in a way, Oroku Saki was a Hamato ancestor, too.

How did I not catch before that the voice actor for the Hamato ancestor was the same guy who voiced Splinter in the 2012 series? That adds way more to the humor in the line “dude, way to leave things to the last minute.”
It's also interesting because this ancestor is the only one wearing a mask that only covers his mouth and nose, and from the front, it looks like 2012's splinters snout!!! The side view looks more human, but the front view is confusing
