  • The early days of The Galleria, Great Lakes Mall and Great Northern Mall were a lot of fun. See if these historical photos bring back shopping memories of the 80s and 90s for you.
Cleveland's Galleria opened in 1987 and featured stores like Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma, Eddie Bauer, Ann Taylor, Express, Indians Team Shop and Brookstone. Restaurants included Key West Cafe and Sweetwater's Cafe Sausalito.
North Olmsted's Great Northern Mall opened in 1976 and expanded in the decades after to include over 1,200,000 square feet of retail shopping space.
Mentor's Great Lakes Mall opened in 1961 and had large anchor stores like Higbee's, Horne's, May Company, Dillard's, Kaufmann's and Sears.
Special thanks to the Cleveland Public Library Photography Collection for providing some of the photos, including the postcard of the Galleria.

I'd love to see Westgate Mall on here. The transition from an outdoor mall in the 50s or 60s, then an enclosed mall through the 90s, and to the shopping center it is today.

    Love the videos!
I hope that you can find some photos of Euclid Square Mall. In the mid to late 1980s when I lived in Euclid, it was packed and a great place to go.

I love this series! I remember the Galleria a lot when I was downtown a lot. That dangling spiral rainbow art sculpture captivated me.
The Indians Shop!!!! Awile ago I visited but much had left, is it still a mall or mostly offices now? I sure enjoyed it. I live it when you visit downtown like this. Its a lot of work getting these pics, so thank you. 😊
PS:Is that sculpture still there? 🌈

Thank you so much! I'm going to look for that sculpture next time I'm down there. I hope it is. I think the building is mostly offices and a YMCA. Winking Lizard is there. -John

@@user-zf1go1lp7m I'd appreciate knowing if its still there, with others enjoying it. I seem to think maybe it was gone when I visited that time but I'm not sure. 😢. Hey, another spot that was amazing was that jungle of plants in, I think the old BP lobby/atrium. I think that is gone too, with the recession ten years ago, is that right? Do you remember that? I'd go in there and study, well mostly look around at the plants. 🌴🌵😁📚📙📖😁🌼🌺

@@user-zf1go1lp7m uh oh.....I better stop asking questions or you'll be hiking all about downtown! 😂😂😂😂😂.
(I'm glad you remebered it. I think its gone, I went to see it after they sold it to see if you he new owners kept it, I remember that it was all gone and I think I started to feel sick. 😢 but maybe I'm wrong or maybe they revived it. But that had to cost a lot to upkeep not counting buying those wonderful plants. I even think some birds snuck in there. To live!!!

I remember great northern mall food court having a weird circus theme when I was a kid. No one else remembers though. Idk
