I lived in Singapore during 2001 to 2008, and worked at kepple shipyard GUL. I would spend my Christmas eve at Orchard Road till late in the night. In 2004 Christmas eve I missed the MRT extended time limit at 1 am so I had to take a cab to my dormitory at kian tek lane (Blue star) the next morning when I woke up at around 8:30 am and turnd on the television the news of Tsunami was making the headlines. It was my first life time experience to learn that the sea could enter in cities in so many different parts of the world at the same time.
I remember the day when I read and heard the tsunami news. I was in Brunei serving my national service at that time. Truly a major devastation for so many people. Orchard has changed a fair bit since you were last here. Ion Orchard, 313@sommerset are probably some of the "newer" shopping malls that have been completed since then.
Thanks for the reply. Yep Singapore always keeps changing according to the latest requirements. The casino towers work begun during my stay in Singapore. I also remember an accident take place during an excavation work at the same place killing many workers. And also at the same time an accident at the Benoi kepple shipyard involving an kataar oil ship namely *Almudeena* it was a Saturday afternoon after the lunch break . A Malaysian Chinese steel fitter lighted his cigarette inside the the tank resulting in a huge blast killing six workers two from Malaysia and four from India. I was lucky enough not to be sent that day to Benoi shipyard as I to worked in that tank the previous day, instead I was sent to work at kepple GUL shipyard that day. By the it was a beautiful video thanks.
Omg it was a very close call then. Yeah industrial accidents can happen at any time. There is always a certain amount of high risk involved. Perhaps this weekend I will do a simple walkthrough the Orchard shopping malls. I haven't been inside them for quite awhile now. Wondering how things are like.
I love Orchard Rd at Christmas. Australia is not the same, just a few pitiful lights. Thanks. As I am in lockdown living through your videos. Curfew starts soon so home safe and sound, but in my head I am in Singapore.
Yeah I miss Christmas as well. The ambience and crowds always brought me joy when walking the streets. I feel its going to be a muted and quiet Christmas this year. Sounds like you are in Melbourne? Hope things are under control over there.
Singapore's Orchard Road is akin to Paris' Champs-Élysées, California's Beverly Hills or London's Bond/Oxford Street. Here we see people who wear shorts and slippers walking around Singapore's famous shopping district as though they are at a HDB estate.

😂 I think most Singaporeans think of Orchard Road as their own neighbourhood. Plus sometimes hot weather so they all want to wear less 🔥😁
This is a great video! Thank you for sharing:)

😅 Not at this current juncture but we have some plans for other parts of Singapore. Orchard Road is mostly a shopping district to us Singaporeans. 😁
Ahahahaha the crows there are noisier than the crowds there 😂
Yeah it's really noisy isn't it 😅

If you are a tourist, Orchard rd can be a waste of time !
