@@mommamode same! I’m not saying the new worlds should come with terrible houses but a big part of the fun for me was seeing a house with a lot of potential and going in and renovating it completely. The newer worlds come with nicer houses and don’t really need to be changed entirely anymore.

The house itself was already tiny and Oasis is a desert world so it's inherently very hot or cold if you ever play in Seasons. Swatch update would make basegame SO much better. Everything needs black/white/neutral. Even the white swatch of the expensive basegame counters leans blue which deters me from using them
Yesss. Even for items with some of those swatches already, it would be nice to add more just so we have maybe 4 swatches that simply match across the board. It's okay if the goal is mismatched swatches or two different complementary swatches but the most annoying thing is when some are close but obviously not the same, like the different black and white swatches. I like having different tones but adding a second neutral white to the expensive base game counters would help them pair better with other white tones or just stand out better if you're using other specific colors. It's just pleasant to have the option and this is why having the color wheel (not patterns but the color wheel) or at least some consistency from the beginning would've helped so much.
The biggest complaint people had over TS2 was the fact that EA didn't see the need for consistency. Swatches didn't match across the game, dark wood for some objects and not for others etc. It also meant a HUGE game on PC because people were forced to duplicate the items in order to download CC to help fix the problems EA created. I like TS3 so much better but I do admit that I've kinda switched away from it a bit because building in TS4 is so much better (except for the dang bouncing...ugh!)
@@columbia2635 I'm working on modding my ts3 game (downloading others mods, not my own lol) and there's quite a few mods available to fix build mode. I bought ts4 for building and create a sim, but ts3 is still my favourite for y'know, actual gameplay
I can’t remember what items they were but I discovered a few of the items that come with black / white swatches are literally just monochrome, so even the parts of the item that would have a different color (or wood / metal color) are just black and white but in an unfinished looking way 😭 they can be lazy with the swatches :/
Given that they originally intended to have pools in the base game but couldn’t solve the “x-axis” problem before launch so they removed them until they could solve the issues and patch it in later, I’m convinced that weird back patio was meant to be a pool on this house.

i know literally two different grad students right now who have apartments that are pretty much exactly like this. no furniture, no overhead lights , no decorations. just a lamp on the floor in one room and a mattress on the floor in the other. this terrible starter home is just a typical grad student apartment 😭
I actually think the color scheme is really cute for a starter house! using the darker blues and blacks is more interesting than defaulting to the pastel and light swatches of everything!
Can I make a suggestion, why not use terrain manipulation to make sand dunes, and bumps with rocks and grass? You can put a couple of bumps along the pathway to make it look like it is worn.
Funny that i stumbled into this video, i started playing a household in this place just a few days ago. By selling some stuff (mostly the exact things you did buy, although i purchased different articles) i was able to extend the bathroom immediately, then i rearranged the kitchen with only small replacements with cheaper surfaces, also the family i was playing started with a toddler, so i had to buy at least the basics to let him eat/potty/sleep, his bed was literally in the parent's room but it's not like i had any other choices, really. The house was pretty functional overall, so at that point it became just a matter of working and getting promoted as fast as possible to really start changing: as of now i have a pretty huge basement, a pool adjacent to the patio, all rooms in the original area have been extended (albeit the bathroom is still small to my tastes, but oh well, the second floor and the basement both have much bigger bathrooms so it's not the end of the world. It all comes down how much space you wanna save for outdoors activities, i liked the idea of the patio/garden/pool, so i had to restrain myself with the size of the original area, with options to expand vertically rather than horizontally, overall i like how it's turning out, it's not complete yet, more because of wanting to progress so many other households rather than just one, but it's not bad: i added lots of vases under the windows, pendant plants (the mom is a plant scientist, so it fits pretty much, reminds me of Arrakis' changes from Dune to Dune Messiah), eco windows or appliances, four fruit trees, two decorative ones, but i did leave that weird floor next to the rooftop, i extended it a bit and turned a portion into a ultra-tiny balcony for the parents' room, just to have one. It's been fun to slowly transform it into what it is, i believe now it genuinely looks pretty nice.
This is actually one of my favorite houses in Oasis springs and I always do black accents for windows, give it a second story, no roof, I make the overhang patio thingie an outdoor lounge area, and I expand the kitchen and bathroom slightly every time❤
No, they just had a lot of really poor lighting on release. Even the more expensive lights are kind of meh; the lights didn't get stronger until they started releasing packs and then going back and adding in new lights to base game based on player response. I think the use of lamps and wall lights in the starters might've been to evoke being cheap or being old and perhaps they were trying to make things cozy or realistic by minimizing the range of those lights but it's still just a fact that lighting and shadows is a weakness of the game, from the worlds to the builds. So many lots have awkward lighting lol. Edit: to explain, for example you can have two shelves side by side or two windows side by side and the lighting can make them look like completely different swatches which isn't even as realistic as the more annoying afternoon effect where every swatch has a strong orange overlay to simulate the sun setting outside in the world lol. OH and the shadows from the cabinets/appliances onto the upper cabinets is so frustrating people have made overrides to remove them. If you ever see a weird gray/black shade on those, it's from that because the shadows from below will overlap the cabinets EVEN though the lights should be brightening them up and the cabinets would create a barrier to those shadows.
I renovated this home for a new Sim family I created. I too often question what the hell were they thinking with some of these base homes. I did make it more mid-century modern desert home though. It starts with that vibe, it just needed a push to get it there. But since I added two sims to a household that already had a person living it it, I added a second floor and a second bathroom. I liked my result. Love your videos btw.
I 100% believe the weird patio in the back was supposed to be a pool and they just infilled it in when they weren't ready at launch, only explanation for there being such a large patio out front AND out back
Would you ever make a video with all of the changes you'd request from the Sims? Would love to see it because every time you bring something up, I agree!
I'm glad you're renovating that starter home. I tried to move my Sim into that house and renovate it. For some reason the floor disappeared and I couldn't fix it.
Haha this one is actually my favorite Starterhome in the basegame I think they made it terrible by Design because unlike the other starterhomes this one is placed on a relatively big lot with lots of room for expansion so you can improve it bit by bit without ever actually having to move your household because you run out of space
I always love to see a renovation that keeps the bones of the house the same!! It feels more like somebody moved in and redecorated instead of ending up with a different building that just was inspired by the original
Greatly improved starter now and I agree about the original homes being too dark and I like more windows. One thing I like to do is use a couple of those little ceiling lights above columns outside with moo and they light up the outside cheaply.
I started my legacy family in this starter home. It looks NOTHING like it did at the beginning!😂 It’s 2 floors, with a big garden & pool, 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms. I love it now! Well worth the grind to save up money!
I have played in Sandtrap Flat and honestly I really like the roofing idea. Wasn't executed that well but it's the most interesting basegame starter house.
lol. I usually get rid of that massive patio and add a pool. Lately, I've noticed that I tend to build a nice little pond out back of my houses. Nice, inexpensive way of adding interest in the back yard.
Sandtrap Flat is where my super sim lived (who yes, married and had children with Johnny Zest). I played in that house for about a year irl before I ran out of space and bulldozed it
thank you for all your hard work last month! all of us affected by those awful diseases in one way or another truly appreciate how above and beyond you go for the kids there and the research they do so again thank you
This house is my least favorite starter too. I either usually completely renovate it or bulldoze it and put something else here. I hate that outdoor ceiling thing too. It's pointless with all the holes in it. Honestly... bulldozing it is sadly the best option. I think you made it look better but that's just because you're such a talented builder. I totally also agree with the swatch update that is highly needed.
practicing building with renovating starter houses, and weirdly this is one of my more faved houses just because i love mid century modern and I dont have to edit as much on it XD
I think that going back and fixing the base game houses a little would be such a great game update. Like making sure the windows are the same height and color. That alone would be so huge.
This is the "I have 1 or 2 person sim family and this is all I can afford". It always gets rebuilt - landscaping & all furniture gets sold right away. I drag the front wall out to create another bedroom & bathroom. And absolutely, the small saucer light goes everywhere.
Same, the first thing I did when I was looking for a starter home for 2 Sims was to make this one two bedroom, shuffle some furniture around, and add a porch. Now they've managed to rennovate the inside with all their earnings 😊
A swatch update for the base game would be nice. I want more cool toned wood to match other packs. I do think making the porch smaller could have gave you extra cash for decorations. (they need to go back and update the older houses. maybe have simmers do it.)
My guess is that there are too many men designing the houses in the Sims 4. I know I am useless when it comes to making things look nice my house are all designed more around minimising how long Sims take to fulfill their needs like fridge counter cooker in that order makes cook take the minimum amount of time to get cooking then I have a nearby dinner table so they have plenty of time to get ready for work my bathrooms etc are also arranged to be efficient too.
Oasis Springs is one of my least favorite places to play in, so I've forced myself to rebuild all of the lots to fit a more Chilean vibe. Specifically San Pedro de Atacama. It has been QUITE the under taking lol 😅
I feel like so many of the houses in Oasis Springs were meant to have pools, but they didn’t exist when the base game came out, so they just left a bunch of blank space.
I'm sad cus I honestly loved this home when I first played it. I loved renovating it over a period of time to make it seem like my Sim is renovating it, and I use a lot of the back patio space to garden, chess, yoga, etc.
This was one of the first homes I played in in The Sims 4... good memories.... I remember putting a pool on that giant patio and killing a townie - not my sim, obviously....
Your version of the house is much better. Hopefully with the Sims team hiring people, the next Sims will be much improved. I hope they include you in building houses for the next Sims.
Wow I have never been this early O_o. I love your energy and have learned alot from watching your videos keep doing what you do,and thanks for getting this comunity together and raising so much for kids this month. I hope we get to see Dan do 28 baby challenge next year.
I've used this house a lot as its so cheap! and one of the few with room for like the rocketship and stuff but yeah I have to replace the lights and redo the inside at the very least!
God what I would give to have those tack on room dividers for flooring changes. I think id feel a lot better with making the kitchen/living room different floors.
OMG I've been playing with this house for days now. Its now two stories, I've moved the main floor bathroom and I put a fountain on the back porch. I do not have your skill with clutter though so it still really lacks some love. I now have to not make it look so bad XD.

I think I just delete the weird patio in every save and then never touch the thing again lol

It’s so funny to me because I actually really like this house a lot. I usually just renovate it on the inside for whatever family I have.
lol. I usually get rid of that massive patio and add a pool. Lately, I've noticed that I tend to build a nice little pond out back of my houses. Nice, inexpensive way of adding interest in the back yard.
Imagine how amazing the base game would have been if game changers had done the builds
It rained in one game through 2 seasons, and I became a fan of Oasis Springs after that; warm all year!
Having lived in crappy apartments/student rental homes, the weird af lighting is actually pretty realistic lmao
Sandtrap Flat is where my super sim lived (who yes, married and had children with Johnny Zest). I played in that house for about a year irl before I ran out of space and bulldozed it
Tbh, sandtrap flat was one of the first if not THE first house i used for the sims 4. It holds a fond place in my heart.
thank you for all your hard work last month! all of us affected by those awful diseases in one way or another truly appreciate how above and beyond you go for the kids there and the research they do so again thank you
This house is my least favorite starter too.
I love the palm tree in front!! I’ll have to look for it in debug.
SMALLER IS NOT BETTER SMALLER IS NOT BETTER
Love the build! ❤
I agree, it is one of the WORST starter homes ☹️
You don't have to apologize for anything! I hope you enjoyed your trip to see your family and that you get to take breaks when you need them!
Love to see you rebuild starter homes by memory!
omg this house is soooo much alive now. thx so much Kayla ❣
ngl i hate that patio roof idk why but it drives me nuts she didnt deleted it
She’s literally in my Top 3 of Sims Content Creators❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think someone from the sims made my house. I am also lacking ceiling lights. 😂
Oasis Springs is one of my least favorite places to play in, so I've forced myself to rebuild all of the lots to fit a more Chilean vibe. Specifically San Pedro de Atacama. It has been QUITE the under taking lol 😅
I’d love a swatch update 😍! Also I think that a good color scheme for this house would be green on the inside like sage green 🥰.
Wow, that house literally looked so awful, and you made it look like a cakewalk to perfect it. You are so good! ♥️♥️
love this one !!! you should do this to more houses
Her “least favorite sims house ever” changes every month
This was Jim Pickens home once.
I immediately heard his sand trap flat narration. I just binged the earlier call me Kevin eps
I loooooveeee the updates you made to this, I'd live here IRL if I could
Not me wanting simsie to fix the different heights on the windows😭
Your version of the house is much better. Hopefully with the Sims team hiring people, the next Sims will be much improved. I hope they include you in building houses for the next Sims.
"There is a lot of stuff going on in this one corner" said Kayla while moving a plant into that same corner.
WILLOW CREEK GIRLIES STAND UP 💕
This is so cute!! You did a good job!
Wow I have never been this early O_o. I love your energy and have learned alot from watching your videos keep doing what you do,and thanks for getting this comunity together and raising so much for kids this month. I hope we get to see Dan do 28 baby challenge next year.
the second bookshelf by the door is stressing me out so much
I've used this house a lot as its so cheap! and one of the few with room for like the rocketship and stuff but yeah I have to replace the lights and redo the inside at the very least!
God what I would give to have those tack on room dividers for flooring changes. I think id feel a lot better with making the kitchen/living room different floors.
That was the first house that I peek tbe first time I play sims 4
OMG I've been playing with this house for days now. Its now two stories, I've moved the main floor bathroom and I put a fountain on the back porch. I do not have your skill with clutter though so it still really lacks some love. I now have to not make it look so bad XD.
