Everyone appreciate what he’s done for us. This guy is a once in a generation talent. Easily one of the best composers of the modern day. Cody, I admire all your work, and you never fail to impress.
Seeing Cody react to that fanfare brass (11:14) in the exact same way as I do is so validating -- I FEEL UNDERSTOOD!!!
Just wanted you to know that it was really comforting to hear one of my heroes say “Writing music is hard for me and takes a lot out of me” because I thought that was only me! 😅😂 But really, thank you a lot for that.
Writing is the hardest part of my job for sure
The first one of these videos I watched was the one on flying. I never listened to that song the same way again. I suspect it's going to be the same with Fix You. These videos just bring so much insight into the process and really bring out those parts you normally wouldn't hear. I love your music Cody, and they always give me chills (and sometimes tears)
One of the best artists of our generation. Thank you, Cody!
PLEASE do the listening experience for every song. It's an amazing way to hear new parts that a listener might have missed the first time. AMAZING!
Cody Fry, I am a huge fan of your music. Thank you so much for writing and sharing such beautiful songs with the world. I also write songs on the piano and you are a massive inspiration for me. Thank you so much.
WHOAAAAAAAAAH!!! Having those features on your website for a massive listening experience is amazing!!!
I have been waiting for this video for SO long! Cody, you never fail to impress...or give me goosebumps through your orchestration.
i need a video of cody fry just talking about french horns for like 30 min straight, and how he uses them in his pieces, etc. that would be the most amazing thing ever !!!
Your woodwinds on this are so John Williams-y. Beautiful.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH your music is the reason why i'm still here
Did an arrangement of this in high school for our men's chorus, but I must say, yours is way more epic. Great stuff. Thanks for giving us this inside look at your process.
I love the way you include your voice crack. ❤
I'm currently in band and choir, and this song brings on the same feeling of performing at a concert and knowing I did well. It brings on that same happy/proud feeling, and I didn't realize that feeling could be recreated through a song. Thank you
hey Cody! I'm a young orchestrator (1st year of university) and I've been absolutely loving your work recently, especially the love you give to french horns! Is there any chance in the future that the score for this song will be available to purchase, either digitally or printed? :)
Potentially…but I have to work out the publishing before I can offer sheet music. Sorry!
I love these breakdowns! The transparency about your process is really interesting and insightful.
amazing as always!
Thank you for your music 🌞
I love your music Mr Fry. Your arrangements are great!!!!
True talent, cant wait for more music in the future!!
Thank you so much for these videos, Cody. You’re one of my main inspirations for my own aspiring composition career. I’ve learned so much from you and hope to learn more!
It's beautiful 🥺
appreciate these videos sooo much.
Fav song ever
I’ve been listening to this on repeat, and has been my soundtrack while digging graves the past few weeks (i work in a cemetery) 😂
I saw an interview recently with a producer. I don't remember who it was, actually. Anyway, he said something that I had never really thought about before, which is something about a producer benefiting from the ability to listen to the same thing over and over again, and maintaining an ability to hear the magic in it. Not his exact words, but it's really amazing how much I not only enjoy listening to things I have recorded over and over again, but I really need to. There's probably some ego involved, but it's mostly about just hearing it and tweaking it. I appreciate your own appreciation of the cool things you're able to do.
so honest. thanks for sharing your genius!
This arrangement makes me so emotional I love how much thought you put into your songs. My school actually did your version of eleanor rigby for our indoor drum line show, loved learning and playing it.
THIS IS SOOOOOOOOO RAD!!!!! I admire all your compositions, Cody!!! 🔥🔥
PLEASE DO A BREAKDOWN OF MORE THAN A DAY BEFORE THAT SONG INSPIRED ME TO LEARN ABOUT ORCHESTRATION!!!
So good dude!!!!
Let's goooooooo! I am learning a lot!
0:50 awesomely done as always keep it up!
Great job man this is amazing! You got my Sub
i love you cody fry you're my most favorite music artist and now i'm trying to learn a guitar
I’ve been WAITING for this one🤣
heavennn
This is the kind of internet content I live for.
These are my favorite videos on your channels (only after Photograph!) Please keep doing them!
Any chance that you’ll be making any other songs into the “Listening Experience” thing? I LOVE the Fix You one, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am that we got to play around with the different parts 😂
YESSSSS
Loved this. Keep 'em coming °¬)
Genial ♡
HOW TO RECORD THE STRING SECTION 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I LOVE IT
Hey Cody! Thanks for doing these, it's so valuable to me to be able to see the process of an amazing musician like yourself! How do the parts the musicians play in the studio change over time? Are you able to write those complex contrapuntal tutti sections in Logic with samples or do they get developed a lot in your notation software? Thanks again!
5:16 I remembered you mentioning the StrikeForce percussion in the breakdown for "Underground"; in fact, after I spent time recovering from the epicness of the bridge (because Wow) I thought "oh, it's that one percussion library again...neat."
I’m curious, did Coldplay say anything about your version? I think they’ll love it!
Hey Cody! I love your music, and your uncanny ability to combine instrumentals with sampled bits like in this tune is incredible. A question I would have relates to your voicings and use of the orchestra. I am a young student composer, and it feels like I do not have nearly the grasp on understanding how to voice the orchestra depending on the sound that I am after. I've heard a lot of "just do what sounds good" but that isn't exactly the most concrete when I struggle trusting my own abilities with something I am unfamiliar with. I have the orchestration books from Korsakov as well as Adler, however those mostly focus on the single instruments. Any words of advice you have would be so much appreciated! Anyways, excellent video and breakdown. Thanks!
- Trey
Thanks for another great breakdown! How long does the orchestra have to prepare/rehearse prior to recording?
They don’t prepare at all! They just show up and sightread it :)
@@CodyFry That's absolutely ridiculous. Humans can be amazing
I'm a huge fan!!!! How long did it take you to write this?
Cody! Will you be uploading high res versions of your songs to places like Tidal at any point? I'd really love to be able to demo your songs on higher end Hi-FI systems
A question here, does anyone know what studio desk is he using for his setup?? Been doing music for some time and wold like to upgrade my desk too.
What version of finale do you use?
I think 25?
I'm kind of interested to know how you go about actually getting an orchestra to record your music. I've been composing music for many years now, but I would love to get that kind of experience for real.
Hey Cody! I’m a freshman. I’ve been really interested in composition/production for a while now, and was wondering if there was certain software you recommend working with for beginners? Just for a foundation of how it all works.
Hey, Cody! I have a question, you've mentioned in this video that you have this kind of listening experience in your website. How do you do this? Like, could you make a video explaining how do you put these features in your website to create this kind of listening experience to your songs such as "Fix You" and "Waltz For Sweatpants"? Thank you and would be glad if you reply in this comment. 🤗
can you please do your own version of Atlas???? The chords are amazing in that!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey @Cody! How do you use panning in your orchestral mixes? It’s my literal number one friend with all of the channels you muted because you weren’t sure how to mix them 😂 great track though, seriously. In awe.
How do you decide when its better to arrange simultaneously/vertically and when its better to arrange successively/horizontally. I do vocal and a cappella arrangements and I always struggle with that. Obviously orchestras are different but I'd love your advice!
I absolutely love your work (Photograph has gotten me through so many hard times) and I'm hoping I can make the drive to Charlotte this October to see you live.
I think I prioritize horizontal. I think m ore about melody and lead line, so I generally find those things first and then fill in things vertically based on what the moment needs
amazing !, where i can find the score?
Have you ever dropped midi straight from finale into protools? I'm still learning and trying to figure out how to get what I write in finale into protools. Or, would a different system (logic/cubase) be better? Thanks!
I’ve found the finale midi okay for VERY rough demos. But other than that, you really need to spend time programming to get MIDI instruments to sound album quality. Makes a big difference
@@CodyFry Thank you! I'm currently using Abbey Road One for my library. As a trombone player, the low brass sound pretty great! I'm still working on the strings.
PLEASE do a collab with Anna Lapwood, i think I would have an even bigger out of body experience if you two created a song!!!
i would probably die if i were friends with you. you're that cool.
For a new orchestrator (or a barely experienced one that has only used free instruments) what would you recommend for instruments and VST’s? How much do you thing it would be to have a fairly decent virtual orchestra?
I’m looking to spend a fair bit of my college scholarships on a few VST packs and Cubase.
Spitfire Audio!
@@CodyFry anything in specific to start with?
I’m currently looking at Orchestral Tool’s stuff.
I’ve also gotta see if spitfire does educational discounts
What are some songs that have similar fanfares like you have in the end of this song??
Needs more Tuba...but then again... every song needs more Tuba!
11:14
Ready for the Sweatpants song…. 😊
were the clarinets midi?
They were real humans!
But seriously, where's the Grammy?
"French horns, obviously" haha
thought it was my speakers cracking...
First!
