I'm currently watching season 2, haven't even watched the movies yet.. This spoiled me but it filled me with so much emotion, almost made me cry. Very well done. I love it.
I loved watching every minute of tos, movies and all. I started watching tng, its certainly very good but it still isn't as enjoyable as tos was for me.
Well, there you go!!! Right here is the reason the reboot doesn't work for me. You've just demonstrated the beautiful human chemistry between Shatner's Kirk and Nimoy's Spock. That was half the appeal of Star Trek. I was compelled to return to the Enterprise each week to see their relationship progress. Two Alpha males locked in a powerful friendship that defies easy definition. Pine and Quintos are fine actors but they have no chemistry that I see between their Kirk and Spock. I just don't believe they even really like each other, let alone would die for one another. Maybe it's the action heavy movies or the fact that they haven't had the time to develop that chemistry but the reboot Kirk and Spock seem like nothing more than coworkers.
I agree! I don't see Kirk and Spock in a slash way, just good friends, but I just can't get into the new reboot movies! I think amongst the action heavy story lines and special effects the very human element which made the original series so special has been lost! I love the chemistry between Kirk/Spock/McCoy. It could be argued that W. Shatner, L. Nimoy & De Kelley had years to build on their friendship and the chemistry between the three of them, but it wasn't even that. Even when you watch the very early episodes you can see how well they all work together! Something just seemed to click from the very beginning. They may have not been working with each other for very long at the time but everything just seemed to work from the onset. The friendship between the three characters seemed so natural and effortless. I could easily believe that the three of them had been working together for years! The bond was just there, and it was very special!
I think that TOS spark and chemistry had the benefit of time, whereas the Reboots don't. They are marketed to draw a new audience, and new audiences will invest in the characters through the action, without understanding the significance of the many stories those three years brought to us. Also, there was the investment of Uhura and Spock. I think, one shouldn't watch the Reboots, looking for TOS. Reboot/alternate universe requires looking at the tales with new eyes. If given time and a strong amount of films, that chemistry would build.
The new movies are what brought me into star trek, but are no means adequate in comparison. I have some reasons... 1) Spock belongs with kirk (or bones). Their dynamic and... subtle... relationship provides the audiance with yet another reason to continue. Also, the fact that they implicated a gay relationship in the 60's! Thats important! Spock with... uhura? Tf? How in the hell did they draw that conclusion from TOS. Uhura clearly belongs with scotty! 2) Khan being white in the rebots.... WHAT THE HELL. Okay, this sounds crazy... But think about it. Khan was supposed to be the epitome of eugenic perfection. And yet he wasn't white. That is important!!!!! Especially in the 60's!! Star Trek TOS emphasized that those who are not familiar are not always evil or dangerous. This idealology speaks volumes and had an impact on youth at the time. The rebots? They got rid of all that for the sake of Benedict Cumberbatch (spelled it wrong probably) and explosions. So, on to my next point... 3) star trek tos didn't fulfill traditional good and evil roles. Was kirk always the good? No. He had to face moral dilemmas and complex philosophies from foreigners. But by keeping an open mind, he found that he wasn't always right and that the "villian" wasn't much of one. Today, more than ever, it is important to teach the youth about really analyzing arguments and THEN picking a side. Kirk, Spock, bones, and pretty much everyone else on the enterprise taught patience and acceptance, but still put up a good show. The rebots can't say the same.... 4) DIVERSITY. Jeez. In my other reasons, I covered this. But still... there was a well respected woman as well as an Asian, African, American, Russian, Scottish, and vulcan. All on the same bridge, same time, same respect. Captain Kirk once said, "leave any bigotry in your quarters, we have no room for it on the bridge". And he was right. A Russian, in the 1960's (when Russians were the public enemy) held an admirable position of power. Don't forget the... possible... gay relationship between spock and kirk. Diversity, now more than ever, is an important concept to teach the youth of today. Star Trek TOS did that.. did the rebots? The short answer is no. These reasons also apply to why star trek is better than star wars. But that's just my unpopular opinion.
@@zarlyngoodwin8530 a year later, here i am to second your unpopular opinion. Although i have a thing for Uhura belonging with Chapel (after the reeducation bit in “Changeling” probably).
@@zarlyngoodwin8530 I agree with you 100%. I have been watching Trek since 1966 and no other show/movie comes close. The development of the characters and their relationships is astounding.
it is frankly embarrassing how little chill i have when it comes to these two.
I feel that
This sums up Shatner and Nimoy friendship of 26 years on screen and off screen. This video gets to ya.
R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy Spock. 🖖🏻.

It's perfect. "If we..." at the end, with Jim and Spock in THAT SCENE. 💔
When you touch me like this.. Jim clasps Spock's hand in his own.. gah.. why did you do that to mmee?.. my heart
