What is your favourite technique to improve the production value/vibe of your footage??
Still trying to discover myself. I don't know yet. I should say sound but then I am not really good at it
I'd have to say sound too
I wish i could film everything with haze haha glad youre doing well man!
Matti Haapoja 😂 just start by hazing all your tutorial videos in the office
I wish you guys also make a B-roll Battle! HUHU Just love the Peter, Matti's Brother and Matti B-roll Battle.
I want to know who will defeat Matti in B-roll haha
Yeah Matti
You are quickly becoming my favorite youtube chanel on techniques. Please keep it coming!
konradnoises thank you! And I’ll keep them coming!!
One of the most under rated channels. Your videos are super helpful man. You have the work to back everything up too. Need more people like you on this platform!
Mac Olink thank you!! Very kind words!
"it's whats happening in front of the camera that is the most important" 🔥 love that. Thanks man!
Hey man... you are one of the genuine ones who share Your knowledge. No click baits and no crap at all !!!!
Love from India.
I'm about to grab a hazer and drop some haze in an upcoming production. Thanks for sharing and bring some solid value in this video.
This is gold man, I was starting to pick up on this as I started to try to break down lighting on videos I liked. Awesome to see the actual why and explanation behind it. Please make more videos haha thanks man
Chidi haha will try my best to make more videos
Mark, your vlogging style is simple and authentic - you leave a very good impression as a vlogger/coach. Also, your content and tips are spot on. Thank you.
teach & travel thank you!!
Dude, thank you for the critique on all the "make your footage cinematic" videos haha. Everytime I have watched one of those videos, it is essentially the same thing. Thank you so much for this amazing Cinematic tip!!!!
Sean MacDougall Yeah I’m gonna make a whole video about that!
GREAT CONTRIBUTION. THIS IS LIKE A VERY SECRET SECRET OF VERY EXPERIENCED CINEMATOGRAPHERS!
Felt like I learned more in this video than the past 20 that I watched lol
Mig Beauregard thank you!!
Great content 👍 Pro tip: vaping is a cheap and portable way to get some haze as well!
That’s true ! So much smoke ahahaa !
I really like your content! Your massive experience in large production filmmaking brings us so many new ideas/aspects, that other youtubers don't address. The one about filming into the light was also incresible. It's a massive pleasure to watch your videos. Thanks!
R&R On Tour thank you!! Appreciate the feedback! It’s so helpful!
i love your style of cinemotagraphy bro....amazing lighting and great mood and feel to it! Please have someone to shoot a full behind the scene on your commercial shoots! Would love to see how your working flow works, directing and how you use the lightings! Some of your works are so so good!
you are popping off on your content! keep grinding! this is the Chanel I've been waiting for... a RUclips who's actually in the film industry!!!
BootsyTV thank you! Trying to balance this RUclips life and my filmmaking 😬
So much value on this Channel! Thank you Mark 🤙
San Cruzo thanks mate!!
I already knew about haze, but I stayed for the footage, it's gorgeous.
I got a big smile at "guten Tag" :-)
Viele Grüße aus Deutschland
Thanks for sharing! love the haze look
Erick Zaldivar 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Excelente tu video, gracias, me dio buenas ideas. Felicitaciones, good job
Hey Mark, great content! Love the note about how you can use this to make a boring location come to life!
Fergus Lowrey thank you brother! Keep crushing it! LOVE YOUR WORK.
Awesome video Mark! Also super inspiring B-roll, I feel creative.
Yuval Aloni thank you! Use that inspiration and get shooting!!
Loving your video bro !! Keep up the amazing work mark !!
MarcoVibes thank you! Keep crushing it
The colour grade on this is lovely!
Awesome video! Do you have a tutorial on your flares? You have really unique and interesting flares in you videos!
One option safe for fire alarms, great for tight spaces and easily 'wafted' is the dutch oven.
I would love to use haze but I am afraid of setting off the fire alarm.
This was so helpful, I'm just starting out with cinematography and starting my channel!
LeahGrace 🙌🏻🙌🏻 go crush it! Glad this video helps :)
Welcome to Germany from the beautiful city Munich. Yearly mark! Great vid. Good luck with the weather... not the best at the moment here
Yeah we might have to reschedule our shoot because of all the rain! I was just in Munich this week, such a cool city!
Glad you enjoyed Munich! And good luck for your shoot, hope you can finish it without resceduling.
Thank you for sharing Mark! This is super helpful and I have already implemented a lot of your techniques into my film making :)
Cooper Landing Fishing Guide thank you! Keep crushing it!
@@markbone you know it!
Do haze leave residue on surfaces? I guess most of us don't have the luxury of using sets or rented places. Myself i'm just shooting at home. And with fur friends and personal belongings around, is it still possible to use haze at home? Just taking precaution, hope I can get some advise
It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on log profiles. I really enjoyed your music video (Family Of Things - Harm) Keep up the good work man.
Minus Nine thank you! Glad you liked the music video. We shot all sLog2 on that!
Super useful tip as always man!!
Thanks man!
Can you do a video on location scouting and how to go about shooting in places that aren't just public areas? I feel like what holds me back a lot is not knowing how to go about finding viable options. For example, if I wanted to shoot a music video in a cool empty building, how do I actually go about finding a building that I can shoot in and who do I talk to for permission?
Great idea! Will do.
You can always look for any security company info around the building and contact those people first to see if they know the owner
Really good videos man. New fav channel!
Really Good job Mark!!! Could you say us which kind of liquid haze do you prefer?where do you buy? Some special brand? Thanks in advanced!!!!
Do you recommend water vs mineral oil Haze? And what specific models of Hazer do you recommend if you were to buy one?
Jeycob Carlson oil based hazers tend to create a haze that hangs around a bit longer than water and, from my experience, doesn’t trip fire alarms as often. American DJ makes great hazers, very little warm up time needed: ADJ Products HAZE GENERATOR Fog Machine www.amazon.com/dp/B01DG4KT6G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0vU3CbF0C5ESA
Thanks so much for the reply and great tutorial btw. Your music vid looks are ace.
One more question - have you used the Rosco V-Hazer? The ADJ one looks good but wondering if it’s not better to go to a more known brand. Also wondering if there’s a model that is quieter than others. Would love to be able to just let it go in the background without always having to stop and re-haze.
Jeycob Carlson I’ve never used the Rosco hazer so I couldn’t tell you if it’s good! Free returns on Amazon if you don’t like the ADJ!
Love this! Picked up a few cans of atmosphere aerosol a few months ago, gonna be using them on a short film soon :)
Jackson Hayes sick! I’ve never used aerosol can atmosphere, only the Artem!
I love this!! Thanks Mark.
Keron Brown 🙌🏻
Do they hazers / foggers leave residues in the areas you work in? Not sure if I should have this one at home.
Great tips Mark! Gonna try them hazers out haha ✌🏽
Great video, thanks for sharing! If someone does interviews all the time do you think a pro mist filter goes some of the way toward getting the haze look?
Mist won’t achieve the depth that haze does but it can help smooth skin tones and bloom hi highlights
very sick!!! Great suggestions!! You're more energetic with being in front the of the camera. Progression I love it!
First time watching your videos, I loved this! So much so that I felt inclined to write a comment which I never usually do!
JoshCameronDrums thank you!!
I borrowed a technique from our stop-mo stage to recreate bg atmosphere without chemicals, due to my history of asthma. Works well in certain types of shots and maintains constant levels. Just published a test if there's any interest. Peace.
Hi. Any reconditions on best type of haze juice to get? Thanks
Love your video so just subscribed it. Don't worry we are here to support you broh. Keep Going.
Thank you!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This will come handy in the nearest future
there is just something about a cool video being done by a cool person. I can easily see myself bingeing on your channel for more cool stuff.
considering getting a hazer for some projects coming up. Would you suggest removing any promist filters when using haze? Obviously its a stylistic choice but traditionally would you go without filters?
Any advice for using a smoke/fog machine inside a car, in order to re-create people smoking in a car? I want to make sure I'm being safe, so any tips on machines would help a ton.
Just looove your channel!
❤️
@@markbone As long as we bumped into one another, I would love if you do more tutorials on lighing. Especially when you are alone (one man crew) in a non planed location or when you in a very small room. Lighting It is my weak point... Thank you for everything!🙏❤️
Lots of love from Philippines.! Thanks for tips bro!
Senpai Melchi thank you for the love!!
Superb! 👏🏻
Your hazer link isn't working for me (in the UK) - can I just use a cheap fog machine from amazon? I'm filming in my music studio and it would be great to have more atmosphere...
What about canned haze
Where can you buy an Artem fogger?
ty Mark Bone !! Hope you're enjoying Europe :)
Really loving all of your videos. It's nice to be an early subscriber of a channel that's going to grow. If you take requests; we need more lens porn! Also interview set ups and tips.
Mark Benavides explain Lens Porn?
@@markbone Show us your lens selection and maybe a run through of what you prefer.
"YES! Your critique on RUclips videos about making footage "cinematic" is SPOT. ON. Dude, seriously, I'm so sick of videos that promise advice for cinematic footage, then the person just says "Oh, change this setting and that setting and voila, cinematic footage!". The word "cinematic" has become a kind of clickbait that people add for views not value.
Arkileogisticologist thank you! What you’re shooting is always more important that how you’re shooting it!
Really great video about the subject! I can tell you like Casey ;)
I recently shot a little boxing piece and I last minute decided to use "atmosphere in a can" and damn it worked really well, a great option to test the waters into creating atmosphere. I think I'll have to snag that $100 bad boy :)
Ive been trying to find decent smoke bombs like your using....Where do you get them? What kinds are they? Thanks!
Bretonc7 I buy mine in Toronto. There are two kinds, burst and a slower release one. Burst finishes in 20sec where the other one takes about 60-90sec
Bretonc7 www.rocketfireworks.ca/wpgw.html
Mark Bone thank you! Sweet videos btw. Lots to learn and know !
thank you a lot. Why didn't I see this video earlier, I filmed a video last Sunday and this video hadn't been released :(. anw, thanks so much.
VDko0l use it on the next one!!
Thank you !
What's the difference in using a haze machine or a haze filters like promist etc? Would hv been nice if it was mentioned in the video.
Haze is in the room and creates beamage and depth where a promist works over the entire image and softens everything and helps the roll off on the highlights
@@markbone Thanks Mark. I will keep that in mind.
Best youtuber out there!
Dan Wilde making me blush!!
7:47 hi. what is light name? i want to use this light effect in my movie
looks amazing : )
Thank you!
this is gold! thank you for that!
great video man
best tutorials. nice man!
Can i ask something Mark? Do you know Matti Haapoja? haha you both have similar on how to vlog. Love it!
True, his body language is also like peter McKinnon but in a good way.
Matti has been a good friend of mine for many years now! He pushed me to start my RUclips! We have done videos together if you check my channel!
@@markbone You guys are awesome!
Were those flares from the music video all in camera? 👊🏻
Duncan Smith yeah, zero post production flares. All of them in camera, IRL ha!
Awesome tips.. keep it up bro
Do these leave any kind of residue on filters and lenses?
helpful tip thanks Mark
Farhan Rafid 🙏🏻 you’re welcome!! :)
Hello, what is the best way to light vapour? Back lit? Thanks!
Light vapour? Can you be a bit more specific
@@markbone sorry, about that. I have to light a Essential Oil Diffusers. I'm thinking back light and side light, with hard light. Thanks for your help
Haze machine:
"A snake having a seizure"
HA! Good one!
your style is Good. what camera are you using for this vlog?
recipien D Sony A7III with the 16-35 G series
@@markbone thanks man solid image.
How about fazers? Does anybody have a link to a video using one? I would like to not get oil on gear or the set. Thats and I think its better for your body with the fazers. But Im afraid that the faze will not show the light beams enough and be more like fog than haze.
Amen!
How'd you make that lens filter?
I’ve found that it’s difficult to persuade clients to allow for a haze machine when shooting B-Roll. There always seems to be pushback or hesitancy, or they feel like they’d have to ask their boss’s boss, and they’d rather not have to go through all that. Any tips on making a quick, effective pitch for haze?
Show them examples and explain every film set uses them. Tell them Not using it is like asking to “cook with without salt”
Hey mark thanks for the tips !!! Id love to be your intern so i can learn more
Danke Bro 👍🏽💪🏽
Great tip!
There was a film shoot in my house's basement once that was using haze in the scene. Suffice to say, we found out very quickly there were carbon monoxide sensors in my basement!
😂
That "beamage" is also more commonly called "volumetric lighting" :)
Thanks for the video Mark! I was actually planning on using a fog machine for a short film I'm shooting this weekend. This helped a lot, much appreciated. I think I'll be investing in a haze machine for my next project.
Cedieu Gantt-Exavier it’s TOTALLY worth it!!
Hey mark, what kind of stabilization are you using for those walking shots of yourself? Is it a plugin? I know from experience that I can’t get that smooth and centered of a look using the built in stabilizer in FCPX.
Nathan Allen King which walking shots are you referring to?
Ignorant question: Doesn't Black Pro Mist 1/4 add a similar effect?? 🤔
Not really. Pro Mist will never give you “beamage” as I mention in the video and it also won’t add haze/mist to your background. Pro Mist effects the entire image evenly which takes away the depth cues from the background rather than enchanting them
Great question though!
Thanks a lot~
💪🏾
but what about 120fps like peter dooooooo?
Great, but “a snake having a seizure “ 😂🤣
you are a gift 3>
🙏🏻
I just have 5 people who vape follow me around at all times.
Vinnie Chu how could I forgot about the Vape Gaffers???
@@markbone Are you even a real cinematographer???
It's funny how Mark keeps saying "I don't know why there aren't more tutorials on _______ technique"
Then proceeds to also not mention the technique in his clickbait titles. Like of course you wouldn't find tutorials on backlighting or haze if all you ever title your videos with is "number ONE tip to IMPROVE your CiNEmAtoGrAphY"
A cheeky comment, I know, I just found it hilarious (and slightly hypocritical)
