    Can you do a video on location scouting and how to go about shooting in places that aren't just public areas? I feel like what holds me back a lot is not knowing how to go about finding viable options. For example, if I wanted to shoot a music video in a cool empty building, how do I actually go about finding a building that I can shoot in and who do I talk to for permission?

    • @markbone
      @markbone  5 лет назад

      Great idea! Will do.
      You can always look for any security company info around the building and contact those people first to see if they know the owner

    Do you recommend water vs mineral oil Haze? And what specific models of Hazer do you recommend if you were to buy one?

    • @markbone
      @markbone  5 лет назад +1

      Jeycob Carlson oil based hazers tend to create a haze that hangs around a bit longer than water and, from my experience, doesn’t trip fire alarms as often. American DJ makes great hazers, very little warm up time needed: ADJ Products HAZE GENERATOR Fog Machine www.amazon.com/dp/B01DG4KT6G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0vU3CbF0C5ESA

      Thanks so much for the reply and great tutorial btw. Your music vid looks are ace.
      One more question - have you used the Rosco V-Hazer? The ADJ one looks good but wondering if it’s not better to go to a more known brand. Also wondering if there’s a model that is quieter than others. Would love to be able to just let it go in the background without always having to stop and re-haze.

    • @markbone
      @markbone  5 лет назад

    There was a film shoot in my house's basement once that was using haze in the scene. Suffice to say, we found out very quickly there were carbon monoxide sensors in my basement!

    That "beamage" is also more commonly called "volumetric lighting" :)

    Thanks for the video Mark! I was actually planning on using a fog machine for a short film I'm shooting this weekend. This helped a lot, much appreciated. I think I'll be investing in a haze machine for my next project.

    Hey mark, what kind of stabilization are you using for those walking shots of yourself? Is it a plugin? I know from experience that I can’t get that smooth and centered of a look using the built in stabilizer in FCPX.

      Nathan Allen King which walking shots are you referring to?

    Ignorant question: Doesn't Black Pro Mist 1/4 add a similar effect?? 🤔

    • @markbone
      @markbone  5 лет назад +1

      Not really. Pro Mist will never give you “beamage” as I mention in the video and it also won’t add haze/mist to your background. Pro Mist effects the entire image evenly which takes away the depth cues from the background rather than enchanting them

    It's funny how Mark keeps saying "I don't know why there aren't more tutorials on _______ technique"
    Then proceeds to also not mention the technique in his clickbait titles. Like of course you wouldn't find tutorials on backlighting or haze if all you ever title your videos with is "number ONE tip to IMPROVE your CiNEmAtoGrAphY"

      A cheeky comment, I know, I just found it hilarious (and slightly hypocritical)
