This is one of the only photography channels I regularly watch. Really inspires me to see my environment in a different light and be excited to shoot photos compared to many other more gear-oriented channels.
Absolutely. I feel like Steve is one of those photographers I can relate to. Unlike some others, who I enjoy watching too, but can’t really relate or connect with them.
You’re so right Steve about looking for the details. I find myself always looking at the big picture when there are so many interesting details in nature.
I always struggle a bit shooting locally. Thank you for reminding me to just go try stuff and not take it all so seriously.... I love the zoomed out shot of the shells.
Having seen your Instagram posts and now the video that goes with them, I find looking at your work and how you went about it extremely enjoyable. Thank you Steve 👍
Zooms offer so much flexibility it’s hard to argue their case but if I’m able to work with fixed focal lengths they are often a more satisfying experience. If the weather its bad I don’t like swapping lenses so the 28-300 VC stays permanently attached.
Plenty of nice shots in there, Steve. And I do like the big scene with the 2 figures and the massive cloud a whole lot! The cloud makes it. Keep shooting : )
Nice wander at New Brighton there Steve. I like the shots of the sedimentary features in the sand like the ripple marks and rivulets. Its always something Ive tried to capture but they really need a low sun to get contrast so have inevitably failed!
Wonderful images with super blue sky and billowing clouds! The mass shell and weathered structure super. I doubt, I'd be able, to do video and photography! I can multi-task, but a step, too far! Great photography! I use zooms but know the rendition, less than what I can!
Interesting images. Tell you how literal I can be, when I read the title, I thought the whole thing would be macro shots. My favorite image is the baby shoes. Since they were abandoned and a bit forlorn, it made me think of how when our children are very young they want to hold our hands and skip and when they get older they outgrow it but we as parents lose something from that.
Love the shells shot. It would be a photo that one finds all sorts each time looking at it. Second shot I love would be of the child's shoes. The stories we could imagine.....
Certainly a diverse range of subjects Steve. I feel it’s always refreshing to go out with no expectations as you will probably have less disappointment and your mind and eye are more free to wander. 👍📸
Ditto love that second, larger shells image. Sometimes there's so much information that one can let go of the details! I wonder if a green filter could be useful to bring out mosses and leaves, not a commonly mentioned filter and I don't have one, just a thought. Cheers!
I’ve dabbled with green in the past but rarely found it to offer anything over the yellow and it also takes a lot more light. I do have a couple of yellow/green filters too and they work well for most landscape scenes.
Lovely photography, Steve. I hope you enjoy making these videos as much as we enjoy watching them. Thank you. PS: I was there three weeks ago at about 9:15 am, but more towards the other end where the boatyard is. The clouds were amazing and managed a couple of half decent photographs with the D810.
Glad you enjoyed it, I often find myself down on the prom there when I get tired of the forest. I went back recently and took a picture of the boatyard with a new camera, it gave me quite a different view of things.
Hi Steve - related to your talks, I wonder if you would consider doing a video about subject isolation. I have wonderful tree branches in a nearby forest but it's often a challenges to make them distinct from the surrounding foliage.
Steve, Thanks for including the info about your preview app. Allow me to summarize my experience with your channel: I bow down to your enthusiasm, expertise, your artistic vision and your perseverance. You’re a huge inspiration for me. (Victoria, BC)
Hi Steve, some nice shots there. I always find the shoreline an interesting location and a great time out regardless of anything I shoot, and I couldn't agree more with your zooms versus primes preference, though obviously changing the headgear made a big difference this time ;-) Thanks for posting.
Strange. I was just thinking of going walkabout at Barry Island and its beaches when your video popped up. Made me think of looking for details rather than the grand view. Hope the weather holds as I've only got PanF today. Cheers Steve. All the best from soggy South Wales.
Actually I really liked that entry scene with the fort and lighthouse. All the clouds and contrails were leading lines into the fort. I thought it would make a really nice photo. Some nice photos. Well done as always.!

Sahara dust cloud headed to UK as warns cars could be covered by orange dirt ; I would Stay Home...from Canada...
The artist's eye will always see what others will not notice. Thanks!
You're too modest, as always.. I love your "wandering around" photographs (and especially with the prime lenses) You never disappoint. Thank you.
Glad you like them, working with the fixed focal lengths always feels more satisfying.
Another complete winner of a video as you tell us your story, show the location and your work. Thanks!
Thanks 👍
You’re so right Steve about looking for the details. I find myself always looking at the big picture when there are so many interesting details in nature.
I do love the big scene but there’s so much more going on right under our noses🙂
Wow, that mudcracks and sand structures.
I always struggle a bit shooting locally. Thank you for reminding me to just go try stuff and not take it all so seriously.... I love the zoomed out shot of the shells.
Thanks Bryce, often I need to walk slower and stop more often to see the small things I’d usually pass by.
Was out of town when you posted this one. Watched it today. I enjoyed it. I especially liked some of the abstracts. Thank you, Steve.
Glad you enjoyed it James.
Having seen your Instagram posts and now the video that goes with them, I find looking at your work and how you went about it extremely enjoyable. Thank you Steve 👍
Thanks John, I’m glad you find the videos useful.
Love the musical intermission
The Nikon F100 is my favorite camera.
Another fantastic vid Steve. 🎉❤. You’re a great artist and teacher
Thanks so much Rick.
Love the intimate images you captured. As a zoom shooter, it's difficult for me to want to shoot with primes but when I do, I'm usually happy I did.

Loved the image at 11:38 - I could stare at that for a long time
Thanks Kevin.
Barnacles!

Keep shooting : )
That cloud was a gift, couldn’t pass it up.
As always, an inspiring video to work with! Thank you, Steve.
Thank you 🙂
Fantastic and entertaining video! Very motivating to shoot 35mm again 😃👍🏻 the music in the background was relaxing 😌
Thank you 🙂

Glad you enjoyed it Rob, always something to shoot here.
I enjoyed the walk

Thanks Dann, the area is always changing and sand patterns never the same twice. I’ve been back recently and got quite different shots.
Thanks for the inspiration, quality as per usual there.
My pleasure Lenny 🙂

Those shoes drew me in immediately, perfect subject matter 😊

Absolutely, it doesn’t take long to start seeing subjects of interest, then everything gets easier.
nice shoots there steve really like the way you talk about getting the shoot.
Thank you.
11:38 absolutely perfect

I’ve not thought about such a video before, I’ll give it a try at some point 👍

You mentioned Lith print Steve it would be nice to see you doing a video with your process:).Thanks for sharing.
Maybe one day Steven, I did start one a year ago but never finished it.
We live busy lives even in retirement but l enjoy all your videos Steve especially when your in the darkroom. @@SteveONions

Thanks Trevor, I couldn’t get into it using the bigger body and zoom lens, it gave me far too many parameters to work with.
Strange. I was just thinking of going walkabout at Barry Island and its beaches when your video popped up. Made me think of looking for details rather than the grand view. Hope the weather holds as I've only got PanF today. Cheers Steve. All the best from soggy South Wales.
Pan F on a dull day, now that’s a challenge!

Glad you enjoyed it Erich.
It's great fun watching you 'work'.
Glad you enjoy it!
Not 100% but I'm pretty sure those organic growths are a type of sponge.
