You mean Ed Sheeran. Sheeran is so overrated. Lewis Capaldi is way better. Far more soulful and powerful. I do agree with you on Howie Day. Been a fan of his since early 2000s. Seen him live several times too. He’s one of those kinda, like Nina Diaz, who sounds better live which is a rarity for most musical artists.
YES! I so agree! I wish he would’ve hit it big like Ed because he’s way better. When I saw this on the dvd that came with The Madrigals I was blown away🤯I couldn’t get enough of it🤤now everytime I see someone do anything like this I always think of Howie & how he did it amazingly better lol. Beautiful.😍
@@mbot3374 I have been a solo looping artist since the late 90s, play 200 shows a year, was the first looping artist in Chicago in 1998, and I learned how to use two looping pedals because of Howie. His stuff is brilliant on this DVD..
You ever hear a song and it just brings you to this beautiful place or memory? 2021 Covid-19 is a thing, the world has seemingly gone insane but this song brings me right where I need to be every time. ...and I never really realized how much that meant until right now... I still love, won't stop.
I saw Howie Day perform twice when he was opening for Tori Amos back in 2002. I was so blown away by his solo performance that I got tickets to see him the next time he was touring. I was actually really disappointed since he was playing with his band for every song at that concert. While the music was still enjoyable, I far prefer his performances like this one. Thanks so much for posting it!
My wife and I bought tickets to OAR just to see him him perform. We had no idea who OAR was... he was with his band and it wasn't as good as his solo performance. We left OAR early and he was in the lobby and talked with him a little bit. Good times.
His tour with his band ~2004 seems to have been disappointing to many. When I saw him live at my university during that period, he was pretty drunk and very demanding of the support staff. Very different from what you see in this video.
I hope someday he goes back to this type of sound. Blew my mind the first time I saw it, like 10 years ago and I've been wanting new stuff like this ever since.
I totally agree-mind blowing when I saw it when it first came out🤯I feel like he should’ve just done this type of music & ditched the whole band & radio sound. This is far more intriguing heartfelt & beautiful.
Everyone knows “Collide” and it is truly wonderful. This was my first introduction to Howie Day in 2002 and I love it. I really enjoy his performance here.
Can’t trust him on a tour bus.....(joking of course, but not). I was always impressed by how talented he is and he just never got as big of a break as I thought he deserved. He’s definitely better live. Back in 01, we were able to use our connection via his very very early and small fan club to get him to play at our college (Bridgewater State in Mass) in front of about 11 people inside a classroom. One of the coolest experiences I still remember and always crave his early stuff when I’m in a nostalgic kinda mood. So happy to see people still searching for it
This is wonderful --- brilliant use of loop pedals -- I'm an old fart who never heard of Howie Day before stumbling on this video -- already I'm a fan!
Get to a show if he comes through your area. He usually makes his way through most major cities one a year. Howieday.com shows his tour dates. Usually inexpensive shows at smaller venues and worth every penny plus some.
Saw him live, solo looping like this, Stubbs in Austin 2015… what a legend. Olivia Millerschin was opening and I loved her just as much. So down to earth.
Howie, is now 41 years old. He’s been in a lot of trouble in the past… The keyword is ‘past’. I’m waiting for you to come back… A true fan doesn’t give up on somebody, especially when they need us the most.❤❤❤
My mom used to listen to him a lot right after her divorce and right before she moved away..brings back memories..not necessarily good feelings, but not bad ones..back when things were,.more secure.
Saw him with Tori in 2002 and left enjoying his part most. Got a standing Ovation. Bought his CD the next day and been a fan since. Imagined living in a commune and he’d entertain us with his mastery. Plus that voice!!!! 12/22
I was also surprised at the low number of views when I came back to this after many years, long after watching it on DVD in college. I've never made anybody watch this that was disappointed afterward! :)
A true GOAT live recording here. It's watching a master at work. When he came to my college a couple years later in 2004, I promised everybody I knew that it would be a transcendent experience, and we were all disappointed by his level of drunkenness. I still get s*** today about it, lol. Whatever, this video itself more than justifies his existence as an artist...
He must have not wanted to be a part of Hollywood's game to not be selling out huge stadiums. He has more talent on one finger than 80% of our musicians today.
Pretty sure he went to rehab, which probably saved him from being eaten by Hollywood. Just saw him this last weekend and he's just as good, if not better. Plays the piano know
I wouldn't call it rare; this is from The Madrigals bonus dvd, which is amazeballs. I like that he doesn't wait for the loop to play back before making the next loop-it's less boring. Also what's cool with the line 6 pedal is the older loops start to fade out as you make newer ones. And obviously you can double the speed of playback. Lol, at the end it looks like he's frowning with a pick in his mouth.
Saw him a few nights ago and he is still playing acoustically and using the same gear. He closed with Ghost and sounded amazing even though he was sick.
He does! Check his website for tour dates. He usually makes his way through most major cities each year. Inexpensive shows in smaller venues. Great shows!
Any know what brand of guitar that he's using? A side from the effects pedals and loops he uses, the guitar acoustic guitar he's using, has just tremendous output and audio. I kind of how the bass treble and phase blend so we'll. I was it looked like it might be a Taylor, but wasn't sure, as I could not get a good look at the headstock. Might be a custom design, idk.
I want to know how does he do that drum effect?.. i have an electro acoustic guitar with a pre amp, and i hit it on every corner and i don't get that kind of bassy drum effect.
Rohan Marwaha you took his input signals on his loop and delay pedal . the instruments he loops. he took his temp and mod knobs and turned them up. tripling the tempo of the song. it's an option on the Line 6 Green Loop / Delay Pedal he uses
Master of the pedal loop before Ed Sheehan. Howie is underrated and was ahead of his time

@@annabiotic1078it was clearly a typo, no need to be a pedant.
Also the comparison makes no sense as Lewis doesn’t use a pedal…
Yep
I’ve had the chance to see him loop in person, back in ‘02, when very few knew his name. He’s very talented.
Same here. Saw him at a record release at the old Compact Disc World in NJ around the same time.
During Tori? Me too. :)
Same! Saw him in Dallas. Blew my mind.
Astonishing stuff. I thought he was a one hit wonder with Collide but the guy is a musical genius.
Saw him live before Covid, he is just amazing and so gracious ❤️🤮
Coming back nearly 20 years later after I heard this while in college........ Still moves me.... This is what music with a purpose does!

I used to own this DVD back when it came out. This song means the world to me. Thank you for uploading it!!
"step aside from all this anger".... I've spent most of my life with those words ringing in my head. That line alone breaks me every time.
He truly is a one man band. I loved his music the first time I heard it. What's not to love.
I heard this song yesterday for the first time ever. This video has sold me on completely changing my style of writing. He is amazing and under rated.
I saw Pat McGee open for Howie in 1999 in Cleveland and it was still to this day, one of the best concerts ever. HD was stellar
That's Music! and pure talent!

THANK YOU for uploading these... this dvd is my favorite live performance of him and been looking for it for quite some time.

Back in the days when people could enjoy pure talent without being through a phone camera
Does anyone know how he changes the tempo of his loops at the end?
the looper pedal has an option to slow down or speed up all the loops in play.
He uses a Line 6 DL4 pedal. You can record in half speed and then kick it up to regular speed, basically doubling the half speed original loop.
