Throwing Your Life Away is an unreleased demo of a song that was recorded shortly after the release of Michael Jackson's album 'Bad', and shortly before what many fans agree the 'Dangerous' era started. It likely would've been made for either a B side to a single, or a tie in for a movie. Michael Jackson would have a history with this, as he would later work on both Free Willy and the live action Addams Family (But the song 'Is It Scary' would never appear in the movie)
The song was reworked for both of Michael Jackson's posthumous albums (Michael and Xscape) but the song remained off the tracklist. The song was first released as a 8 second long snippet in 2018, before a full, low quality version released on June 23rd, 2020, with a ton of reverb and white noise. Just perfect!
The song is, according to one Reddit user, an anti-drug song, due to the repeated phrase 'Just say no', which was the name of Nancy Reagan's anti-drug campaign during the 80's. This would be ironic, as Michael was known for using lots of painkiller drugs after injuries, and his death was caused by an overdose in sleeping drugs.
Multiple attempts have been made to restore this very low quality version of this song, with the best results attempting to at least make the track listenable without the reverb. Hell, even I did an edit about a while ago that I believed would be the best version available.
But then came the instrumental remakes of the song, and I realised that the best way to experience this song (for now) was to isolate the vocals from my version of the song, and add them on top of a mastered version of the instrumental remake. So here is my edit of the song, which I believe is the best version that we're going to get of this track until either a higher quality version is released by the estate, or a really good Audacity RUclipsr comes along to fix the vocal track up.
Anyone is free to use my version of the track and attempt to make an even better version of this song, as I don't know all the tools out there on the internet!
