Marianne's Story

MQI created this short film in collaboration with Axis Ballymun, featuring actor Roxanna Nic Liam reading the testimony of former MQI client 'Marianne'. Marianne* shares her journey through addiction and recovery, highlighting the need for dedicated female services like Jane's Place.

Marianne's story is very brave. She speaks openly and honestly about her experience. Most importantly she has achieved 2 years of abstinence. The credit goes primarily to Marianne but she also stated that MQI was important in that success.
She also raises an issue that is a great challenge for those who are addicted to a substance - shame and stigma from the public. This causes a lot of harm and zero good. We still have much work to do in winning public support and understanding that shaming people with substance use problems makes recovery harder.
