    I agree with Woolie, I love seeing creative parallax animation. Being a kid and watching the Disney short that explained how early parallax animation was achieved through painted glass layers being moved in front of a camera was like watching a wizard explain how magic worked.

    David Productions has some really good use of sound design with JoJo. The SFX for "The World", "Bites The Dust" and "King Crimson" are all top notch and memorable, but even stuff like sound used to demonstrate someone getting hit by Star Platinum will sound like they're being blasted by a gun.

    • @Lordofthepants
      @Lordofthepants 8 месяцев назад +1

      I love the SFX David Productions did with Fire Force too. From the Benimaru Bass Drop to actually using the 'bruh' meme as a competent sound effect, DP are amazing with sound design.

    I love it when a strike from a melee blow is conveyed with the power of a firearm.
    The most obvious way is to make the sfx a gun, but what I like too is:
    • if the visual "hitspark" looks like a line piercing through the target
    • a backblow effect, as if the strike had recoil and/or the victim gained an "exit wound"

    I love it when animation starts going "backwards" to black and white/sketch, bonus points if the color is drained gradually, over a little time. It's mostly used when a character is completly disintigrated, or somebody uses their strongest attack, or a bomb goes off. Sakugabooru probably has a name for that. Honorable mentions are king kittan, one scene from black clover, mob psycho did it too and when luffy hit that tenryuubito.

      I'm glad animators know how impactful those kind of moments are so they try (TRY) to not overuse it. Even Adventure Time did it once, and they saved it for the final episode

      Tekken 8's version of this is interesting, I think. Instead of just the low-pass filter and flanging, they accompany it with a distinctive sound effect combining a shine with a **mean** bass drop, being just one of many elements in T8 made to enhance the player and spectator experience alike.

    I'm also a sucker for that dramatic pause where everything cuts out, to be followed by whatever significant thing that makes you go wild.
    Godzilla Minus One recently had that, near the end. He rises up from the ocean and starts charging that breath up. It goes completely silent as it shifts from one set of characters to the next, on each ship, looking like they all know they've failed, that they're about to die. Then you see the plane appear, you hear that engine, and the epic music starts blasting as you see the look of determination on Koichi's face, as he prepares to ram it. It's fucking amazing, I love that type of shit so much.

    Any multiple shadow effect (alpha supers)
    Japanese laser sweep *pause* line of explosions
    When a “AT Field”/energy shield is blocking something and you see the energy be being disbursed (EVA plenty of times, all might and Deku double Detroit Smash being blocked, even the robot in Detroit literally breaking through his programming.)
    When someone is exuding so much power that the artwork becomes all scratchy and distorted. (All might us of smash, Mob psycho does it a lot too!
    Broly turning the World green, then shrinking it down to a his fist for a ki blast.
    Any flash step

  • @NickKester
    @NickKester 8 месяцев назад +9

    One of my favorite animation and art effects is when you have a really scary/powerful character in frame, their face is hidden within a shadow, and the only features you can really make out are little red or white dots for the eyes.
    There's a still frame of Dio standing on a street lamp from the stardust crusaders OVA that does this. Also The Beast from Over the Garden Wall has this for the entire show.

    Cutting animations to convey speed or suddenness.
    Haikyuu, of all things, has my favorite example where a character hits this sick ass serve and every minute detail of his movement is captured as he hits this jump serve, but when the camera cuts THE BALL HAS ALREADY HIT THE GROUND on the other side of the court.

  • @NotPork

    Adding onto the silence before a big explosion or cannon fire, i think what I really enjoy is that far off distance shot from the impact where you only see it pop off but you do hear and see the after shock travel several if not dozens of miles towards the camera. Sometimes they even do that outer space perspective shot and those can be fun too

      "Very cool moment" and "breaks continuity and logic" are two statements that can exist at the same time.
      It's the sort of thing you go "That was awesome!" then 10 minutes later you start pondering if that might have been an *sspull.

    • @RipOffProductionsLLC
      @RipOffProductionsLLC 8 месяцев назад +2

      @leithaziz2716 that's kinda what I said though? "Context matters, since braking continuity/lore can ruin it" is referring to said "cool" moments, after all, what's the point of your awesome/badass/cool scene if a huge chunk of the audience walks away thinking it was stupid and lame after the gut reaction is over(if not right away if they're the sort to take lore seriously)

    That original series of FMA has some amazing scenes that Brotherhood sometimes improved on, but some of the OG series moments (music and animation included) are burned into my head. The AKFG Rewrite track on top of that sick OP animation is one of them. BONES studio were on fire back in the day, they had a lot of skilled animators and directors that are still veterans in the industry as freelance teams that move about to MAPPA, Ufotable, I.G., Gainax etc.

    Incredibly specific, but as trash as the move is, Charizard's Flare Blitz in Smash has a very loud, unique *WINK* sound effect that hits so hard every single time. It's a high risk/ridiculous reward move and that start-up really sells it as a "Ooh here's a BIG ONE" kind of attack.

    A super neat animation trick was used in Rise up, Kemono Michi, a show about pro wrestling. In one scene the screen is split to show the two fighters, they start to do their attack, and as the movement is happening the screen split rotates while camera moves out to show the complete attack connecting.
