Not sure how anyone can ask for a $56B salary when laying off 10% of your workforce.
I mean, let’s say that 10% equates to 10k workers (I don’t know actual number). If the average salary of each worker is $75k, that’s a cost of $750m/year.
So, it’s okay to cut 10k jobs with the snap of the fingers, even tho their total salary would be around 1.5% of his personal salary??
Want to know why so many, even in the US, have come to question capitalism in its current form?

If gasoline were $10 gallon, fuel is still less costly than any new car payment. The 1990s Japanese cars and trucks can be maintained virtually forever. I think some Tesla owners spend more on new tires than I spend on gasoline.
My $1,000 Geo Metros can be tweaked to get 60+ mpg - better than most hybrids with basically lawnmower technology. The majority of vehicle owners won't do what I can do because hand crank windows and stick shift is not for them. As I age, I don't drive as much.
A Prius needing a new battery is also cheap to operate as unlike an EV a replacement Prius battery is a relatively low cost repair. But a Prius won't beat the fuel economy of the Geo Metro. It will be a nicer and safer car.
If beater EVs were considered DIY repairable, then I'd consider an electric car. The Tesla battery is welded into the structure of the car, whereas the Prius battery is suitcase-sized and not difficult to rehabilitate. I'm seeing dinged-up and neglected looking Teslas, but popular sites like Rockauto.com cannot supply meaningful Tesla parts in 2024. That means Teslas are likely to continue to see poor resale value as 3rd party support is critcally lacking.

FSD is making great progress. Tesla should allow owners to add FSD to a second owned Tesla family vehicle at a discounted price.
Someone that has purchased FSD should have a transferable license and be able to use it on multiple family vehicles.
Why has there been such a long delay to updating or refreshing the Model S and X interiors with the new ambient lighting.
Many people are holding off buying a new Model S or X while waiting for the new features. Why the slow roll out ?
The focus on FSD is great but the cars need timely updates to their features. The slow roll out hurts sales.
New features need to be rolled out promptly and not dragged out. The lack of focus on the Model S and X is hurting volume sales.
All the costs for research, development and amortization of manufacturing equipment for the S and X should be written off by now.
It is time to lower the prices of the Model S and X to reflect the reduced costs and increase sales volume. Glad to see the price drop by $2000
Should be more like $5000 drop. You need to be able to pick a desired exterior color and interior color and still be eligible for the IRA $7500 tax cut.
Missing out on the $7500 tax cut because you chose to pick an exterior ($1500) and interior color ($2000) is just crazy.

No change in Canada, where price was up CDN$1000 on the Y LR since our purchase in March. And I'll be dissappointed if they bring out the new updated Y before the end of 2024. The messaging to sales people that it would not be earlier than 2025 was what prompted us to buy now. And as for FSD, I was offered a free trial on my 2022 M3 RWD,. Tesla sales are down because they aren't updating their vehicles to new-gen models and dynamic pricing didn't help, but with heavy updates, the Model S and X are how old (again), the 3 and Y, again major update, Tesla will have to offer things they don't like, the infotainment system needs to allow Apple CarPlay and Google's Andriod Auto, a power sun shades (or at least manual shades you can put up), you see adjustable suspension on the updated Model 3 Performance and I'm guessing the updated Y Performance will be getting it, along with cooled seat, great, FSD needs a major price cut, just to start, Tesla needs to either push the S and X to the large vehicle size spell classification, either way, Tesla needs to make space for a true midsize vehicle models, the 3 and Y are too small

Agree with overall analysis, they haven't halted Model 2 - it is just that the demand will be off the charts and they don't have a dedicated factory yet so they're using the model 2 shell and making robotaxis as well as 2's - they will need to ramp production for that model because the demand will be very high and it's just the way they've always brought on a new model - prototype it, build a few, ramp up. .... This is basically the turning point for Tesla, they will need to execute their plan. This plan we see now is an artifact from 2016, and it's largely unchanged but Elon will push certain aspects of it tomorrow in the earnings call and we'll have visibility into what the company is doing going forward. Definitely a transitional period - almost everyone I know is aware that new batteries are coming, and people will wait for them. Think Tesla will be back on track in 2 quarters.

Depreciation only matters if you keep changing your car. The “keep up with the joneses” mentality has a cost attached. My EV has cost £150 a year to service (1/3 of its diesel predecessor) and less than half what its diesel predecessor cost to fuel. I might not get the difference back, but over 10 years I’ll get darn close.
