Man that thing looks like it just skims over the water, I started in a Slalom displacement hull in 1974, most likely why I still love displacement , basically a torpedo with hole to sit in, enjoyed the run. Variety, the spice of life!
Looks like a fun spot. Paddling since 1968 and the Toro Evo is maybe my favorite boat of all time (since about 2005). My other boat is a Delsyk Toro slalom boat (32 lb plastic) -- you would like it too.
Boone has got to be one of my favorites out on the Ocoee. About as fluid a paddler as I have ever seen. I love watching great slicy boaters, but man when I saw him paddle I was literally awestruck. Great seeing ya yesterday at Hell hole, tearing up the Outburst
The pleasure of paddling a light race boat. Good stuff. I've got several resting in my boat rack, Kayak, C1 & C2. My daughter will have a "gone out of business" sale.
@@WadeHarrison I know you paddle a lot of different boats. Have you tried paddle boarding yet? The guy who taught me to paddle "you don't need to change rivers, change boats". Enjoy your videos, paddle safe
@@WadeHarrison I thought I was over river paddling until I started doing it on a board. It rejuvenated wanting to get on moving water. That said it's easy water, class 2/-3, Nantahala is my Gauley now. Heading out to meet a bud to do the Upper Hooch. If you ever want to do a Upper run on a board let me know. I have an extra Hala Atcha + gear
5 or 6 years ago a group of us paddled the Canyon Run on the Wild & Scenic Rogue River in Oregon in a day 32 miles of class 2,3 (4) with low gradient and low-ish flows and looong pools in 6 hours while chasinng a young fast talented boater in a fiberglass race boat... the fastest time l've ever done it in but still a hour slower than the race boat who caught every eddy and surfed every wave while waiting for us...those light boats are lighting on the river.
Fantastic! Wish I never sold mine! Get those guys to make you dance around some poles under timing! It's hard, particularly if they set up staggered gates!
Whoa! I want one! 🙃 Oh wait... I paddle on flat water... 😓 I think I might have missed it in the video - does it have any kind of footrest or foot pegs? Great video, especially the climbing moments
Great vid Wade and fun to see you in something outside of your comfort zone! I see you are using a g’power x-creek in this vid. Could you tell us about it? I’m looking to maybe get the harpoon for playboating but there are no reviews out there. Maybe you could do one?!?!
@@WadeHarrison Well it definitely made me more cautious those learning years. I eventually broke it when I started creeking in it. Finally retired it about 4 years ago. Dang thing was nearly 40 years old. 30 of those years had my butt in the seat.

Yeah buddy for real this feel like nothing I have paddled very interested how it gives feedback to you when zipping around the rapids

this is something I would only do few times a year
Ha! Brings back memories. Everyone who wants to paddle downriver should paddle slalom at least a few times.
Agree

@@nicksinderson3302 very interesting to watch how they navigate, definitely has me curious to paddle one.
Yeah was awesome to feel how zippy these boats are
@@WadeHarrison didn’t have a chance to watch to the end but did you get a chance to see how they roll?

oh, for sure having some gates up is the way to go
Well that was interesting. I see a lot of them at Lock 6 on the Potomac working the slalom gates, wondering how they felt to paddle.
Dude that area is deep with slalom roots seems all the beat up and coming paddlers have background in slalom
Swear you could kayak a submarine and make it look easy … this is a fun video with that style boat
I have good and bad days
Re: "kayak a submarine"
Stroke for broke & never choke ~ 'cause Fun's Forever, that ain't no joke!
oh hell yeah! this is what the people need
Next I want somewhere with gates this was just like quick lap before paddling
Very quick too (ex slalom here).
I want to try it again but on some gates
Thats kinda different level...😃
Yup
Fast! Will have to try one
For sure
I’m a new sub! Squirt boat next? I have some epic racing kayak reviews on my channel. Need to get back into ww.

I will have something up on that x creek soon and I have seen the harpoon blade but not used it
@@WadeHarrison Awesome! Can't wait to see the review!
Ha! My first 5 years paddling was in a 13 foot glass Race boat.
I think it definitely makes you a better paddler

It's more fun with gates....
oh im sure
nice, will there be a lettmann vs gpower paddle comparison video????
Yeah I might do something on that soon
Do raab too!
Have a plastic slalom boat from Soul Waterman. It's a Draggo Rossi SL 350 : )
I have seen those look like painful fun
@@WadeHarrison actually very comfortable. Use her for flat water for now. At 600$ you can't go wrong. Happy paddling : )
@@johnstewart8473 wow that’s definitely worth that
Is any plastic half-slice boat somehow comparable to a Slalom boat in your experience? E.g. the ZET Chili?
maybe the soul fox boat that Soul Kayaks made but I never paddled one
Where did you purchase that kayak? I can’t find any for sale
It’s a old model that I borrowed I don’t think it’s being made anymore
Great watch. Ever been in a proper surf kayak in the ocean? Something else that's a bit different!
I don’t know anyone that owns one of those do you?

Ocoee ,
It’s the Olympic section of the upper ocoee In Tennessee design just for the 1996 Olympics when it was in atlanta GA
where is this ?
The ocoee river Olympic section in Tennessee
No loop? ;-)
Hahah
I remember how much people bitched about how much plastic boats weighed when they first came out.
I know right
Plastic is good for keeping turkeys fresh.
