  • This walk was filmed on January 6th, 2018. On August 24th, 79 AD, Mt. Vesuvius erupted for the first time in centuries. Herculaneum, just 3 miles away from the base of Mt. Vesuvius was spared from initial destruction as the wind carried most of the ash and pumice on to Pompeii. On the following night, the plume of ash above Mt. Vesuvius collapsed causing massive pyroclastic flows that buried both Pompeii and Herculaneum. While most of Pompeii has been excavated. It is estimated that only 25% of Herculaneum has been excavated. The rest lies under the current city of Ercolano.

Since this is as close as I will ever get to this place and Pompeii I would just like to genuinely thank you for sharing these wonderful tour videos. The fact that you don't add any music or spoken dialogue along with the steady and slow camera work makes me feel like I am actually there walking through those streets and buildings. Also, I really enjoy the informative captions.

I'm also never gonna be able to get close to Pompeii or herculeneum, or even to Italy itself, thankyou so much, I enjoyed watching on my very large TV with the surround sound on, I find it hard to walk due to arthritis so I was able to sit back and relax but feel like I was really there, thankyou again 🥰

Surely there are wheelchairs that another person could push you in that can go up a few steps. I designed a camera cart that can go up about 5 steps fully loaded with 700lbs with just one person pushing or pulling it.

I'm a 2nd Gen Canadian, with Roman, Calabrese and Barese blood. Barese on my mother's only.
I have much family in North America, but even more in Italy.
I am obsessed with my heritage, even down to the finest pebble. Nothing takes my breath away like seeing this.
This is such a dedicated and ingenious and artistic endeavor. I don't even know how to articulate my gratitude.
I have just begun to watch this, and I hoard and cherish every little second of it. It will probably take me days to get through. And I'll keep watching over and over.
My God the vibe... The porticuum... Everywhere...
Fine brick work and quaint passages... The way the light hits everything...
I feel truly, that Italy had that "medeival vibe" before that was a _thing._
▶️I'm sure 2000 years ago I would be saying less pleasant things during a busy day there... Hah
But nevertheless, it doesn't change the detail and presence.
I'm just at a loss for words for both; the scape and the fact that this video I now watch, was hewn by your integrity.
    Unbelievable.
In all my XXXVII eras on GAIA, nothing has ever been TRIVIVM. And as so, none of this is.
I imagine the ancients being able to comprehend a specter of the FVTVRA hovering around their homes. You are almost a realization of what they must have pictured, _the beyond._
    It's just poetic.
⏺️It makes me sick when I know of ancient ruins and artifacts in any part of the world treated like shit; especially indirectly because of haste and greed.
I care about the one fingerprint left, or like you said, "bread ready to be made... olives, almonds...", and I'm paraphrasing.
But those are the things that stun me, and move me. I enjoy the peaks into the crevices and seeing the textures.
If I could life there, in the "ruins", I really would.
    I could go on forever.
But I thank you. I thank you on behalf of my Ancestors who would be blown away by such INTEGRITAS. I can only assume, when it comes to the whole _life and death/where are we/where do we go_ idea. As I see it, it matters not except that someone knows thine deeds in this case. For so many of us who will most likely never see this, wow...
But I do what I do despite an answer. I do it *be-cause.*
Because _then, was, and is now._ And _now, is forever, until it is not._
I always think; instead of acting like no one's watching; live like there are billions and billions watching, and many of them will see what you have done in life and have left for the future.
And for a town rife with I'm sure, *interesting scaenicvs,* and being pummeled by pumice; it's left quite a legacy.
🔻I did construction for a few years. And I always made sure that one air bubble or chunk was fixed inside the concrete. I take pride in my work.
That's your fingerprint. I see a healthy pride here. Thoughtful.
That's what I love the most: the thoughtfulness.

I just happened upon your youtube page, and am so glad I did! You have done a marvelous job of filming and narrating this amazing location. It would be so easy for this type of a video to become difficult to watch, as a result of camera-induced dizziness, or a lack of focus and perspective in the filming. But it is absolutely perfect, and you are to be congratulated on paying attention to everything connected to this video. I have heard of this location and have a book from a museum exhibition, as well. I have visited the Getty Villa, in Southern California, and it is absolutely amazing to be able to see the original authentic location, and to walk along the path that you have shared. I am very anxious to watch your other videos, and will definitely plan an excursion to Herculaneum the next time we visit Italy. You have done an amazing job on this video, and I’m certain your other videos will be just as entertaining and instructive. I agree with another commentor that it is very nice not to have music playing, or even someone speaking in this video. What you have written as captions, gives a very good overall understanding. Thank you so very much!

Erculino or Herculinum was actually buried by a lahore, mostly mud and Ash, that is why it is so well preserved, an exciting entrance through the hollowed out mud tunnel directly into the boat yard which was the shoreline back then. Fascinating and to think only 20% excavated, what treasures lie beneath that we may never see because it has been built upon. Great upload, great place but looking up at the mountain of Somma and the cone of Versuvious, you just have to climb it, from up there, you can see the earlier Lava flows and the towns which succumbed to its power!

I likely will never get to see this in person, so this is truly a treasure. Thank you for posting.

This walk and the one in Pompeii were such a genuine treat. I'm honored that you would do this for us. I'm not sure if I'll ever make it there especially with Covid. Now I'm satisfied. Your skill with holding the camera steady is phenomenal. I see a lot of urban exploration videos that would give you sea sickness. As someone said, the quiet, and the sound of the gravel beneath your feet - truly makes you feel like you are there in person and it is also very soothing. Thank you.

We just visited Herculaneum on Sunday 28th April 24. Fairly quiet Im pleased to say. Your videos are so comprehensive! We visited most of the site, but not all of it, and your videos will help me go back and review what we saw. It is an incredible site, and I was astonished to see double height rooms and almost all of a villa intact. There are doors, window frames and stairs that are there in place - charred but well preserved. I think visiting Herculaneum before Pompeii was very helpful for us - we could visualise better what was lost in Pompeii. You can take yourself around Herculaneum, but I guide is helpful in Pompeii.

Thank you so much for doing this. You've put context to the pictures I've seen for years. Having you walk ON the streets, going into and peeking in the labyrinthine houses, shops and courtyards made me see the town on a whole new level, no pun intended. The maze like city was a joy to behold and although you sometimes zigged when I wanted you to zag with your steady camera I was mesmerized, seriously. I had to break up the viewing because I got overwhelmed with what I was seeing for the first time, close to live and in person. The static words and pictures I've read over the last 40 plus years were brought to life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and the rest of my internal organs.

No words! My mouth was open for most of it in complete disbelief and awe at the work that it took to get this where it is today. Thank you soooo much for sharing this journey with us. It truly was one of the best virtual videos I've seen in a while. Amazing work. It's so funny that we're seeing this happen today in Hawaii, not on the level of Pompeii but seeing the river of lava flow I can just imagine what they went thru, actually, I can't but an amazing bit of history that I hope won't be lost or destroyed.

    • @ProWalks
      @ProWalks  6 лет назад

Yeah, that was a lot of rock to dig out....in a slow careful way.....and most of the town is still buried.

    • @guytremblay1647
      @guytremblay1647 4 года назад

sadly Hawaii's situation is not the same ad PompeII and Herculeneum. those two were burried under meters of ash while HawaII is being burried little by little in lava and while ashes will freeze anything in time like human remains it wont be the same case when it comes to lava .A human or an animal burried in lava disintagrates in a very short period while the lave is still thousands of degrees even the bones in 2000 years if you try to find anything inside solidy lava it will be stuf that could not be disintegrated by super high heat
