When the railway came to Graz, that happened thanks a certain member of the Habsburg family insisting on this route for the train line that was planned to reach Trieste.
The original planners wanted to route it through the plains of hungary around the mountains (and styria).
This man who insisted on this route was living in styria (Steiermark) not by his own choosing, but because he had helped the tyroleans in the fight against Napoleons Grand Armee against the wish of his brother, the emperor. (he helped them with weapons, and tactics, and the small contingent of farmers, peasants, innkeepers... dealt one of Naploeons Marshalls 2 defeats in battle on their hoem turf)
He was from tyrol himself, but was banned to enter his beloved home region from then on, because Napoleon won this war against austria in a battle close to vienna.
This noblemans name and title was archduke Johann of Austria. And he not just made the railway come to Graz, but also founded the oldest insurance company still active in austria (initially for homeowners agaiinst fire and for farmers against hail destroying their harvest), the oldest bank everybody could use (still in business today), modernized iron and steel manufacturing here, founded a school for higher education...
At the main city square of Graz, there is a fountain with a statue. This statue doesn't show any emperor or military commander famous for his actions in battle, it shows archduke Johann.
Because the whole of styria (of which Graz is the capitol city) still to this day is thankfull for what he did for this piece of land.
Oh, and least i forget: the train still goes the same route. (for a few more years until a very long tunnel is finished)
The train experts back then were adamant that it could not take a route over the mountains (the mountain in question is called Semmering). So archduke Johann got hold of a young promising man from venice.
This mans parents were from albania, and he finished studying at university in venice aged 17. In austria he is known as Karl (Ritter) von Ghega. ( Ritter means he got a knighthood for his achievements)
He was a great mathematician and planned, calculated and oversaw the building of the whole track including all tunnels and viaducts, some of which are still in use today as far as i know. (frequently checked and kept in good shape of course)
Carl of Ghega was even on an austrian money bill for a long time (before the €).
Graz is still the second largest city of austria. And if you are interested in current things made in Graz, there's Magna, the Mercedes G manufacturing company, AVL, Andritz AG to name the biggest players here. And many more industry. And all still thanks to one intelligent and philantrope guy banned from his home turf, finding love and something to do here. (he married way below his status and had to wait a long time for permission of the emperor for his marriage because of the status problem. There's an open air theatre play every 5 years in the village the lady was from about that.)

The Gibbs is an excellent choice. One of the winning rifles of the long range competitions.

I'm always amazed that you keep coming up with all of these beautiful and extremely rare firearms.
How do you figure that it's rare? Dave Pedersoli will build as many as you want and quite happily take your money.

Bravo, beautiful pistol. FYI, an old trick to keeping the Browning of a guns finish bright and new looking is to apply an ultra-thin film of Linseed oil to the Browned areas with your fingertips after cleaning, I also do this for the stock if it is finished in Linseed oil as mine is. This will cure quickly and protect the finish from fading. My custom .54 long hunter rifle is of an all-Browned furniture with Cherry wood stock made in 1991. It still looks as good as the day it was finished and goes to the range at least once a month, sometimes twice for club shoots.

I used to shot my pistol every Saturday because I love to shoot and I needed to stay accurate for my job - armed security officer and Aux. Law Officer - my choice of weapon was a S&W model 65 .357 mag. with a 4" barrel and combat sights - I shot expert in pistol competition

That's a really good observation. In a duel you could choose to kill, just to wound or to miss altogether, depending on the severity of the slight. These pistols would leave little room for doubt in gauging the participant's intent.

A beautiful pistol. Do you think that increasing the load from 11 to 15 grains improves accuracy because small variations in the load contribute less to variations in velocity as the load becomes larger?

I might be the only one, but I like the look of the plain version.
I noticed when I used to shoot muzzle loaders if I put a lubricated wad in between the power and ball the lubricant would soil a surprising amount of powder. I can understand how people may not notice it, but there were a couple occasions where I loaded up and didn't shoot and a day later manually unloaded to find a bunch of soiled powder. after giving it some thought it seemed to me people were loading backwards. I started putting the lube wad on top of the ball. I eventually stopped using them all together didn't seem to make enough difference to matter. I've shot thousands of revolver balls that way with no problems.
Sometimes I don't use lube on the patch at all, but still use the patch.
The semolina also separates the wet patch from the powder. Another purpose.

Having just tried the Hall "pistol", was it nice to play with something that would be such an obvious joy to shoot?
were do you aim in the target for example at 6 o'clock or at the bulls eye or at 12 o'clock you never say were are you aiming at.
How do you find the grip? Looks less comfy than the Le Page (as it has a lot of ribs), so I’m curious about your impressions
It fits my hands a bit better than the LePage. A bit better balance.
I always wondered if those folks of old ever used the 2 handed hold for pistols. Seems a no brainer but all the movies show the classic one handed hold.
According to military manuals and dueling rules single handed use.
Hard to use both hand for shooting if its a sabre in your right hand, pistol in the left and the rein in Your mouth to control your horse.

Although percussion interests me less those are exquisite pistols.

Were I live you need special licensing just to own and shoot reproduction muzzleloader pistols. It really is rediculos.
It's not a shooting spree weapon.
