I have one of these from a animation studio that was recycling their old equipment and picked it up for free as they had to pay to dispose of it. The Fw900 was honestly in mint condition and well cared for. The color of yours with purple on the back is the same as mine being different from the top housing. I do feel beyond lucky to just know a person who knew I liked "old tvs" at the right time and place.
What do you think of the Laser-powered phosphor displays? LPDs? Supposed to similar to CRTs only they seem to be technology that will still be used and manufactured for the time being?
better quality hardware in general, but also computer monitors had more of the picture tube covered up by bezels to square off the image and keep the image closer to the center where geometry and convergence are generally more accurate. thats where the whole screen size controversy (ie, "17-inch monitor" is really 16 inches because 1 inch of the tube's perimeter is covered by the bezels) comes from
That’s an incredible Sony right there. Really unfortunate no shops close that sells CRTs refurbished or not in my area. Ah well can enjoy these vids nonetheless
I have kept two FW-900s I had gotten in the late 2000s in hopes to find someone able to repair/restore them one day. That's how I found this channel by referral, since no one was willing nor able. I hope to be in contact sometime down the road.
I disagree that it's the best CRT monitor ever made, a Samsung 1100MB has a dot pitch of 0.20 mm and horizontal frequency of 130KHz, 21inch. From personal experience, dot mask CRTs look painterly or as a printed photo. Trinitrons are bright and the FW900 is 16:10, but the image isn't that sharp.
I wonder if Artemio would be up for releasing a PC version (Windows/Linux/MAC) of his test suite, along with the higher resolutions for CRT PCM's up to 2048x1556p, and perhaps even some new stuff for OLED monitors for those of us wo like to use them for CRT emulation, just a thought.
I have a Viewsonic E70fb crt and the image shrinks and tilts every now and then so I have to use the buttons on the monitor to tilt back and "stretch" out the image again. Any idea what's causing this and is there any way to fix it?
I always wanted to own this unit Steve. I mean, I was so close to own one that I regret not doing so. Still wish I do bro. Now I have to make it my business to do so. 8^) Anthony..
You never know. The good thing about old tech is sometimes the most valuable pieces end up in your neighbor's trash one day and you score a free top level CRT.
@@adamplechatyha mee too. A local guy had a few to sell so I pounced on it. Set me back $1500 but I ended up selling an extra D24 that more than made up for it
So what's the deal with the red capacitors? I'm doing a recap on an arcade monitor (streaming the effort the last few nights on my channel) and the board was populated with several of these. Everything is being replaced with Nichicon 105c rated, but still curious what the red ones are all about?
My poor road find CRT is starting to die after a few years. Sharp Linytron 13" (13rv69) Mfd. '89. I know it needs new caps according to reddit. I cant for the life of me find an owners manual or schematics.
@@RetroTechUSAI hope you get a chance to work on it too and make a video out of it. This little guy has been with me for years. Maybe I can try to have a fan behind it for circulation to keep the temps down till I either find out how to have it fixed or it dies on me all together
how much does your UPS guy hate you? Mine is kinda passive aggressive to me and I only get 1-2 packages a month (if that)
20 years ago I picked up 4 of these from a company that went under, $150 each with the BNC to DVI cables included.

Thanks from The Netherlands! Triniton Rules!

I always wondered why are computers monitors better at geometry and convergence compared to video monitors or TVs ?
I think it has to do with the size? That’s my theory

What was wrong with it? I remember when you first got it a few years back and it wouldn’t turn on.
Every time I look for a crt locally on the internet they are always across the country is there any shops locally that re sells them? Like pawn shops?

NEC Suite already exists and serves that purpose. Check it out.
@@mordetx1 I have that, it's fine, not anywhere as expansive as the Artemio test suite though, or most importantly, as dope.
couldnt you just emulate a test suite with retroarch?
@@Vvewa Of course you can, but you wouldn't have PC specific options.

I have a Sony E500 that I am working on. I am surprised how similar if not identical it looks to your Sony.
grab a quality white eraser and scrub the front pannel for as long as the plastic doesn't change colour, thank me later.

I own a CPD-G500. I think it’s the best Sony PC monitor I will ever have since the GDM-FW900 is unobtainable to me.

It's just another brand here in the USA. Werth Capacitors.

I got a storage unit full of these bout to unload to some suckers 😂
How many of them? :D
Ok mr. butthead. You could also find people locally who have a passion for this sort of thing and sell them for a reasonable price.
You might regret it when the prices soar.
The slideshow reveals how close the boards look to those on an E500 which I am currently slowly (emphasized) going through.
my August 2003 fw900 had the same color mis-match on the back. its like this from the factory
You’re not working too much in the CRT bunker anymore. It’s just used for retro tech storage.

That TV was made the same year as the Sharp TV with a built in NES. Please try to find one of those.
This monitor is literally build to withstand a close range suitcase nuke. The inner shields were like a skeleton.
I want one of these so bad. I have since it came out.
I used to have a great Mitsubishi crt. But i got rid of it in a moment of madness.
Amazing video as always. Mine is running great today, but I know it’s inevitably going to need some repairs. I know who I’ll be sending it to!
thank you so much for the amazing work .
i wish to see how to restore the vivid colors for trinitron pc crt monitor using windas
