What’s your favourite spin-off game?
Either Overlord: dark legend, or ratchet gladiator. These games are amazing!
I almost wouldn't call Deadlocked a spin off.
Aside from Metal Gear Rising, probably the MegaMan Legends series if it counts.
Considering how vastly different they are to most of the series, being 3D adventure games with lite sandbox and even RPG elements, as opposed to 2D side scrolling action games where you choose an order of stages to go through and fight bosses to get their weapons or powers, I’d say it does. They’re also set so far beyond the other games storywise that they barely connect outside some nods to other games here and there.

I think all 4 RaC Ps2 games are the pinnacle of Insomniac: I remember getting each game year after year -- it was a good time to be alive! Great review!

Deadlocked isn't a spin off it's actually mainline and the game is canon. Just cause the creators didn't talk about it doesn't mean it's non canon.

This was one of my favorites in the series, I played it through so many times, I had everything memorized, from goals, to enemy placement.
I upgraded everything to max, even the shield.
I need to revisit this one someday.
Great vid. I also love Deadlocked, but sadly Insomniac those days are focused on the "looking like a beatiful Pixar movie" tone instead of a dark one, like Deadlocked was.
I think they should return to the level of edginess that the first three Ratchet and Clank games had, since they are a good mid point in the tone between the modern Ratchet games and Deadlocked.
It was a good game, I think critics were afraid this meant the next games would take the same "edgier/combat only" approach, thus the scores at the time

The OST is among my all-time favorites. I could always listen to any of the themes from Orxon, Torval, Stygia, or the Ghost Station.

Wasn't there a comic that showed Ratchet had gotten some PTSD from all that he went through? Yeah, this game is darker than it let's on.
I still can’t decide which game had better gunplay deadlocked or rift apart.
Damn my brother an me were so addicted to this game, when it cane out. And the we still are. It's not only the grate gameplay and coop and stuff. It's also freaking difficult. Second playthrough on exterminator level still gives me nightmares.
Just finished replaying this gem on pS4 with a laggy streaming option but damn it was worth it! The most memorable game from my childhood. Great video!
Some of my best memories ever playing with friends was from this game, to the point where I played it co-op with three different friends and some of them more than once
The scorpion flail was the ONLY weapon I used once I got it, and it pretty made the rest of the game a joke (in difficulty, this game is awesome :) )

I played so much of that game in my childhood. Even though I haven't played any of the other games, the visuals and combat were explosive and hardcore. Loved swinging the flail all around!

I've played many precious gems on the PS1 and PS2 and out of all of them, there was something about to utter chaos and vibe about Ratchet: DEADLOCKED. Forgive me RaC fans but I've never played any other games apart from deadlocked but I'm thankful to have had [and still own] this absolute masterpiece of a game. AND ITS A SPIN OFF?! They don't make games like this anymore.
It would be so nice to have this game remastered in today's graphics and not change a flipping thing except the soundtrack, now WHOA WHOA hear me out. What I mean is, look up a guy called Remstage who has made quite a few metal/djenty covers of Deadlocked's Soundtrack. If we can get bangers like that pouring through our speakers and headphones while playing a remastered Deadlocked, life is complete and childhood returns in glorious fashion! Hope y'all look remstage up, good stuff. And thank the Heavens I found this video, here's a sub bro!

it's so good to see people apreciate Ratchet Deadlocked more and more recently, i thought i had nostalgia googles on but now i got back into it and it's still insanely fun to play after all these years, this time finished the game with all challenges on 5 stars and all the skill points and still want to keep playing, this game is just so much fun to play for some reason
I mean in our real life reality the people who made alien movies made toys and marketed to kids.

i remember playing rac 1 then 2 and i missed out on 3 but got deadlock instead. i was in for a ride because it was my favorite ps2 game next to thps3, burnout 3 and nfs u2

It was one of the few games on PS2 that you could play all the way through on full co-op. Me and my little brother loved playing this game together when we were kids. We loved the R&C games and this one is an excellent addition to the roster.
Ratchet 4 is not a spinoff yet secret agent clank is according to a lot of people.
Frankly i think it's just a weird game yet a really cool one.

I adored Gladiator (Fellow brit) back in the day. My mum and I had a blast with the Co-Op mode.
Damn shame it never resurfaced. Seeing so much less Couch Co-Op games nowadays, and it is a shame.

But this isn't a spin off...what makes you think it is? The platforming? If so then any game ahead has less platforming the first game, so are those spin offs?
In general, you still have bosses to fight, weapons to upgrade and missions, just like UYA.

So i guess my brain just always blended up your arsenal and dead locked into one game! I loved up your arsenal all the levels come right back to me seeing them again, but daaaaamn deadlocked was so good and i forgot how much was in that game! I can remember having a friend in high school who never got to play dead locked and we dusted off my ps2 and played that game for like 3 days straight. Game has so much vibe and fun story but also some serious replayability, everything that was a challenge in that game we beat, and i completely forgot about co op!
I’ve dreamed of some kind of spiritual successor to Deadlocked that could use Keyboard and Mouse controls 🤤 I guess Insomniac’s own Sunset Ovderdrive is *_kinda_* similar but not only is the PC port for it terrible (thanks Blind Squirrel), but the game itself is pretty mediocre outside of the core gameplay loop
Try playing it on pcsx2. Faster load times, HD texture support, true widescreen, retro achievements, 1080p, very hairy. You can even run it with an OC on the emulated ps2 so it doesn't dip to 30fps in heavy areas like on real hardware. 180% has been flawless for me. This is how I've been replaying the whole series and it's what I always wished the ps3 remasters were.
Now that Rift Apart is on PC maybe we can get the Rest

It is canon. The game is mainline. Also.just cause it's a spin off doesn't mean it's non canon

Gladiator (or Deadlocked, as the americans say) was my first ever R&C game and I fuckin' loved it, I hold huge nostalgia for it and the only thing stopping me from playing it again is the fact I can't seem to get an emulated version past the tutorial
This game had a competitive multiplayer mode too, I remember playing that way too much

Deadlock is a spin off???? I always thought something like size matters or secret agent clank would be considered a spin off since both aren’t really cannon and tried new things and ideas with the limitations of the psp
Ratchet & Clank Deadlocked is canon,as well as size matters
On PS 2, this game has A LOT of problems with freezing, endless load loops and save fails.
Several times I had to stop playing it out of frustration because it saved my completed level progress but erased my earned badges, weapons, armor upgrades, and bot upgrades.
It’s been very frustrating and disappointing!!!
Also, they offer about 10 skins, but popular characters such as Qwark, the NPCs of other R&C games, and interesting playable characters from other R&C titles are not available. Why??? The game makers already have the graphic skins from other titles! They should have mar them available!

The only one on there is the reboot, its a good game gameplay wise but i recommend playing it with no volume
