  • Just last night I was browsing RUclips when I saw a clip of John Cleese the legendary English actor on Good Morning Britain.
In the video, John Cleese was talking about why he is boycotting Britain. He spoke about the press among other things but he also echoed the true thoughts and feelings that I commonly encounter speaking to a lot of British and Western expats who are living here in Thailand.

I was in Pattaya in 2019 and hung out with a lot of British expats. They kept telling me that England is not the country they grew up in. They said also to me. Whatever you Yanks do, don't give up your guns! A major reason I left to the Pacific territories are the same. The US and west are going in the wrong direction. Political correctness has castrated our culture! You nail it on immigration too!
100% agree with you. I sponsored my ex-wife from China to migrate to USA, and I was as a US Citizen, (Disabled, honorably discharged veteran), treated like a criminal, being forced to show years of financial records, taxes, and go through criminal background checks with my wife, and numerous interviews, as well as paying over $6,000 in fees! I have illegal alien neighbors being given subsidized rent, COVID payments food stamps and so on! Thank you Biden and Obama! Going through Thai immigration I had respect that they honor their own borders, language and culture! I have never been to Europe, but seeing where it is going, I have no desire. Bad enough going back to the US mainland. At least we have Texas and Florida.
The only thing to me about Thailand, that I see as a negative is you can't own firearms there.

I agree, currently living in London and its a crime ridden shithole. Criminals are openly stealing motorbikes and mobile phone in broad daylight, theres usually at least one stabbing murder or acid attack each day, most crime isn`t even investigated. And me being the honest working and tax paying citizen with a home address is constantly targeted for parking, driving etc. I have never felt unsafe in Thailand which s why i will be living there in the next few months.

2nd time watching this 2 years later. The state is broken and we are in a police state I live in Australia and our freedoms are getting taken away, Australia has abandoned at least over 35,000 citizens stuck overseas and government closed the borders, they are preventing Citizens from leaving their own country, theirs only one other country in the world has that same rule and that’s North Korea. During this illness, we have one case and they lock their state down, with mandatory lockdowns and mask wearing etc. Police just love issuing fines especially in Victoria. When it this began over a year ago, one lady put on fb about having a protest in her town and the police turned up and arrested the pregnant lady. It’s also the same here in Australia, pre plandemic takes in 40000 (so) called refugees, people that never assimilate, Gangs of Sudanese roam Melbourne bashing and robbing people, it barely gets on the news, or if it does it doesn’t mention their ethnicity. I found in my first time in my life peace and serenity in Thailand. I wish I could retire to my wife’s village in central Thailand. But she thinks coming to Australia, will be better, I keep telling her that just because you get higher wages compared to Thailand, the government also likes to take a fair share and the cost of living is expensive.

Getting housing in the Netherlands is absolutely impossible and I could no longer stand to see my government bend forward for massimmigration. Just come in, we give you a passport, free housing and financial aid. I'm not going to delve into details but gosh am I glad that I moved to Thailand. After spending MONTHS and MONTHS doing daily phone calls, emails, house viewings, etc with no luck in my home country, I came to Chiang Mai (thanks to you) and managed to get an awesome apartment within a day. No hassle no bullshit. I'm also saving money, the temperature is nice, the people are nice and I feel a lot safer here. Best decision of my life. I want to see more of Asia and see where I like it best, but gosh Chiang Mai already made me realize I never want to go back to Europe. Hungary seems like a pretty good place too because they are against massimmigration also which is the main reason why they aren't able to become a part of the EU.

Crap people will only attract crap things? Crap people will also CAUSE crap things and this country is filled with crap people. Unfortunately even those who are polite and respectful have to face this crap because they're surrounded by it everywhere. There is no "give respect and take respect" here. You give respect and the other guy shits on you because he has no basic courtesy or decency. For a simple and clear example just look at the way people drive here, especially in metros like Bangalore. People have no regard for the rules or other drivers. Everyone only cares about themselves reaching their destination as fast as possible even if it means cutting off 9000 other people on the way. This mentality applies to everything in their lives, not just the driving on the road.

I'm not sure that the crime can be attributed to immigration. I worked with people in the 70's who left Britain to go to NZ because of the violent crime and corruption. Think the Crays and all the gang warfare, the mods and rockers, soccer hooligans and the Irish blowing up parts of England. One friend worked for the Crays and moved to NZ because he could see an early death being on the cards.

I've seen videos suggesting that crossing the road is stupidly dangerous in Thailand. The video was shot in Bangkok, and the cars didn't stop for anyone, even though there was a cross-walk permitting them to walk. Are things like that in other Thai cities?

    • @rebeccad8568
      @rebeccad8568 6 лет назад +1

1ex1uger bangkok is extremely busy, chiang mai has got a lot worse over the last 10 years. There are smaller towns which are a lot quieter. Never trust a cross walk, it means nothing. Red lights don’t always mean stop, depending on the thai signage with them and even when they do, people often drive through them. Thailand is number two for traffic accidents in the world according to WHO www.searo.who.int/thailand/areas/roadsafety/en/. Some reports say it is number one. But don’t let this stop you from visiting, it is a great country in many ways. Just use your common sense when you cross the roads and don’t rent a vehicle unless you have the appropriate licence.

    Hi Brett,
First off, thanks for all the advice you share on this channel, it's very interesting and inspiring.
I wholeheartedly agree with what you mention in this video. I live in Reading, England. I currently pay £1250 per month rent including bills for a 1 bedroom flat in the biggest shit hole of an area. In the 6 months I've lived here I've called 999 twice. Once when I saw a stabbing outside my flat, and once when a man put his girlfriend's head through a bus stop shelter. I also caught somebody smoking crack whilst trying to get into my neighbours flat and had to chase him off with a 9 iron. Most nights there is shouting and general disorderly behaviour from drunken people who crawl the streets with cans of extra strength alcohol, still I'm yet to see a Police Officer on my street in 6 months. I'm sandwiched between two mosques, have a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre next door as well as a halal butcher and a shop with only Polish signage, no English, so Christ knows what goes on in there. I feel like I'm in another country at times. I've been to Thailand four times this year for a few weeks at a time and, of course I do not live there and I am only on holiday, but, I feel a lot safer there than I do in "Great" Britain. I am honestly astounded by British people who think our society is a model for others to follow and that somehow Thailand is "third world" or inferior. Basil Fawlty is right, we are shielded from the real state of our country by a media with its own agenda. I hope one day we can moan about the state of our country together over a cold Chang!

Besides immigration all these problems sound the same when it comes to the USA and even worse because criminals here are ALL armed with guns and in big cities like New York it's most definitely a police state.
You get a ticket for every tiny little thing, it's a miserable existence.

Spot on! I don't wanna dump on England because there's so much I love, but I don't want to stick around, witness and watch the decline of such a great nation. I did try to get involved with the Tories, UKIP and Brexit Party for years, but the British people are fairly clueless, indifferent or don't care as to what is happening. A lost cause.

That made me wonder, in America and Canada the coasts are the absolute worst for socialism; California, British Columbia. Are there regions of Thailand that are more conservative and areas that are very liberal?

I agree too uk has practically gone to the dogs, you can't do this, you can't do that, its now governed by a set of hard fast rules, people just complain about everything you do, one dare not even move now, or say anything, in fear of upsetting someone, the other day i was on a bus and was talking quite quietly to someone, and i overheard someone on that bus as i passed say, doesn't he talk alot, also i told some kids to make a little less noise underneath my window, and unbelievably the police paid me a visit in the eavning, god i hate that country, it never used to be like this!!! I'm so tgankful that i left it, it's now f....d as far as i'm concerned!!

It's why we Americans elected Trump. The hard left media puts him down constantly, which is most of the media in the U.S. But under Trump the economy is booming. He stands up for the average working person. What else would a citizen want. It's somewhat of a last stand for us. We see what has happened to the UK and Europe.

Basically agree with all this, maybe not some of the terminologies. Police state, to me, means something akin to Nazi Germany or the KGB in Russia. I agree with you about the CCTV and all that shit, but proper policing in almost non-existent as we see from all the stabbings going on especially in London (4 police stabbed this past weekend). All they are interested in is fleecing motorists and the like because it's easy. Bit arse about face with the Cleese thing. What started it all was the press and other things followed. I follow him on twitter and he's been banging on about the UK press since the big hacking scandals. I'm much older than you, Brett, so it seems even worse to me what has become of the UK and the west in general. My childhood in Yorkshire from 1955-1973 seems like a life lived on another planet now. Thailand still has some of the values that I benefitted from in my youth.

No doubt that what you say about Britain is correct but ... If I were you, I wouldn't compare other western countries with the UK. I spent a lot of time in Thailand and it is absolutely a nice enough country but it isn't better to live than Belgium. Belgium is not perfect but still OK. Life is not terribly expensive, social security is decent, it is not a police state, food is excellent, traffic is rather safe, young people do not fall dead drunk on the street after a night out, teenage pregnacy is not a nation wide problem, we have no part of the country where a referendum for independence was held and we get along with the EU.
