Oh my god. Idk what Australian god you pray to but he just played the biggest didgeridoo surprise on you known to mankind. This is like when the weekend tweeted lets go during the invasion of Ukraine. The timing just could not be more exact.
In many parts of the US, College Football is actually more popular than Pro. This is mostly in the south where the programs are huge. There's also the fact that we get a Madden reskin every year, but this is the first college game in a decade. There's a lot more excitement built up.
Classic Shillup Curse, i don't think anything else will top it this year unless something mad happens like Xbox shuts down 5 minutes before a news vid 😂

American here! College football is huge here, its practically a religion, especially in the South. My nephews in college all play it, I played Madden92 when i was in college (or Uni for you guys) also and it's just a good time killer in the dorms. And now that colleges are allowed to pay college athletics, you can actually play as a athlete you see everyday on campus. Cheers, and keep up the good work!
Also (amd most importantly) it's just a much better playing footbal game. People who prefer Madden actually play the college version instead because the gameplay is so much better! @softdrinktv has great videos covering this if you're curious
Also worth noting that the professional football game (MADDEN) sucks booty. NCAA football 25 is the first installment of the college football game since 2014 I think. You can notice the difference between NCAA 2014 and NCAA 25; nothing virtually changed from this installment of Madden and the previous.
@ullian.y To be fair, it was rumoured, not confirmed. It was equally likely nothing would've come out today. But then again, the sheer amount of leaks indicated otherwise, and Skillup even said that his Switch 2 news would be made redundant by the time it was uploaded
For College Football 25, the fandom boils down to this: I went to James Madison University, I didn't go to Pittsburgh Steelers University. Much more people are more invested in colleges because they have a personal connection to them, unlike pro teams
Yep, I grew up with my high school literally across the street from Notre Dame. It takes me 3 hrs to drive to Indianapolis and 2 hrs to drive to Chicago. As such, we had season tickets to Notre Dame home games growing up and I’ve only been to 1 NFL game.
The fandom for College Football 25 essentially consists of the following: I attended James Madison University, but not Pittsburgh Steelers University. Compared to professional teams, a lot more people are more involved in colleges since they have a personal connection to them.
15:50 college football is wildly popular and it’s available everywhere, unlike NFL. Everyone has a local team, every state has a college, and loyalties run deep. For example, I grew up with my parents getting season tickets to the college football games and it was for a college literally across the street from my high school. But I’ve only gone to 1 NFL game that was 3 hrs driving away from me. There is a difference between it all and everyone has a college close enough to cheer for.
States usually have multiple colleges too that compete with one another. I'm from a WSU family, and no matter how many times the Huskies win, I'll be cheering on the Cougs for my grandpa.
Re: American College Football The simple version is that a large number of metro regions across the USA don't have any major nearby sports franchises, but do have local colleges. As a result, there are many regions where the local college team is the primary community sports franchise. This is especially true in vast stretches of the American deep south, Midwest, and desert West where there are few cities large enough to host a major sports team but likewise few large entertainment options for dispersed populations. If you live in say El Paso, Texas your nearest NFL teams might be 8 hour drives away in all directions to cities like Houston, Dallas, Denver and Phoenix. But El Paso, Las Cruces, Austin, Tempe and Albuquerque all have large college sports programs and there's a strong chance you personally know people attending the school. Seeing the college game is an easier, cheaper community experience.
I’m beginning to believe that the video game industry is messing with Skill Up on purpose. Like there’s some grand conspiracy to screw with him specifically
At this point I'm actually convinced we wouldn't have got the Switch 2 reveal without an aptly timed "this week" video. So thank you Skill up! Always bringing us the latest, even when it's not from your channel. ;)
That $700M is for ongoing support, infrastructure (which, I do infrastructure for a living, that shit is *spendy*), initial development, marketing, and all of that over the life of the game.
i literally just saw the switch 2 reveal, realised half way through that i havnt seen a video of yours a NEW your video would be in the sub box. its CRAZY how reliable you can count on your video dropping just before/after a substantial gaming news drop XD
American here: Americans are just rabid about college football. There's a sort of local pride to it. Not every city, or even every state I don't think, has a pro-level football team, but just about every sizable college has one. Especially in the Southeast, it's _huge._
While I'm not really into football in general, you had me thinking why I never really see college football talked about from where I grew up. Not that it was absent, but it definitely wasn't as big as the NFL. So I decided to look at a map and boy, there are college sports teams all over the southeast. I'm from the western side of the country, and it's definitely not as crammed packed with college football teams.
Tradition of Skilup uploading at the exact time the industry does something still alive in 25, this week the official teaser and website for the switch 2 launched. It's down to a fine art at this point they're basically calling reality.
The whole "Ubisoft CEO launching a full investigation thing" is absolutely hilarious. Like brother.... It's not some kind of riddle or mystery. Literally just look at your games and everything that surrounds them. Get back to prioritizing fun and quality over making "THE FIRST EVER AAAA GAME" and you'll be ight lol
I am so pumped this content is now available on Spotify! 90% of me “watching” these video is me listening to them while driving, working out, etc. this is a welcome upgrade to season 5 of This Week of Video Games and all other SkillUp content! Thanks for all you do!

Lol 700 million for cold war, but they cut out the OG woods voice actor, copy and paste most of the mechanics for Killstreak and gun types. Idk where the money went. 600 million probably went into the skin packs players can buy with cod points.
Hey Ralph, American here. Ncaa 14 was the last one since the new college football game that came out last year. Ncaa 14 was arguably the greatest football game ever made, with good gameplay, amazing modes, and a banging soundtrack. The hype for the new one was HIGH, on top of that the gameplay is NOT like madden so it’s a breath of fresh air. Haven’t played madden in years BUT I play ncaa 25 daily.
Look at it this way, Ralph: if you didn’t release the show, we’d never get that juicy news that you missed by literally seconds. Thank you for your sacrifice.

I can’t believe the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced LITERALLY MINUTES before this video dropped. Dude has to be paying for stuff done in several past lives to be this unlucky with major video games news.
Absolute lmao moment for Shillup, getting turbof0cked by yet another company releasing a trailer in just the right moment. You love to see it. Just as the leaks predicted.
FYI: I've read the series of books Helldivers is based on. It's nothing like Starship Troopers. Think post-apocalyptic Earth where most humans live in airships at high altitude. Specialists "dive" down to the polluted surface to scavenge and explore. The books were pretty good!
Things must in their correct space if Skill Up just dropped a video right before the Switch 2 gets announced. Hope you and the team have a wonderful year, Thanks for always helping catch up with the video game news.
So I'm ignorant when it comes to game design. What exactly goes into the massive cost of game budgets? Why 700 million? Is it staff salaries and software licensing? Or is it an arbitrary number fluffed by how much higher ups "should" make as well?
Skill up on spotify is perfect! I can use youtube at work but Spotify is fair game so I can listen to my favourite show and work at the same time. What a start to the year 🎉
No joke! After I heard you say the Switch rumors lined up with the release of your episode I clicked off the video to check and it dropped 20 minutes after yours 😆
The success of College Football is down to the fact that it isn't released every year - Last release int the series was NCAA '14. Also, the college game has a lot more depth when it comes team management with long term scouting and incremental improvements over longer timelines.

Switch 2 reveal 20 mins before TWIVG
You really have the most atrocious timing of anyone on earth, I’m impressed
Impeccable timing!
Oh my god. Idk what Australian god you pray to but he just played the biggest didgeridoo surprise on you known to mankind. This is like when the weekend tweeted lets go during the invasion of Ukraine. The timing just could not be more exact.
The Switch 2 being revealed minutes before this video goes up is CLASSIC This Week In Video Games
About 20 min apart. That's peak Skill up right there
I just came here after seeing the notification to say "MORE THAN LEAKS !" :D

and people are usually crazier for their college teams than they are pro teams. i fuckin miss ncaa 14, played the shit out of that
The switch 2 reveal dropped minutes before this show... starting the year strong !
haha i was watching the reveal trailer and was thinking hopefully he re-edit his upcoming video then notification titled switch 2 leaks shows up
I mean he did it to himself lol. Leaks have been screaming the 16th for a bit, so he should've got the video out before then
Just so so funny,

the skillup timing curse is just part of the experience at this point
It’s a feature, not a bug!
it‘s got to be intentional at this point
American here! College football is huge here, its practically a religion, especially in the South. My nephews in college all play it, I played Madden92 when i was in college (or Uni for you guys) also and it's just a good time killer in the dorms. And now that colleges are allowed to pay college athletics, you can actually play as a athlete you see everyday on campus. Cheers, and keep up the good work!
worth adding that this is the first college sports video game in over a decade, which no doubt is helping
Also (amd most importantly) it's just a much better playing footbal game. People who prefer Madden actually play the college version instead because the gameplay is so much better! @softdrinktv has great videos covering this if you're curious

It seems like something I'd only want to play drunk, so all this makes a lot of sense.
Especially if you live in the South
Classic Skill Up timing.
This has to be intentional at this point. "Skillup's about to upload. Drop it."
well, the reveal was scheduled, so Skill Up should've just waited
@ullian.y To be fair, it was rumoured, not confirmed. It was equally likely nothing would've come out today. But then again, the sheer amount of leaks indicated otherwise, and Skillup even said that his Switch 2 news would be made redundant by the time it was uploaded

Love it, but also from all the clips showing Henry. I absolutely can’t wait for KCD2!
The fandom for College Football 25 essentially consists of the following: I attended James Madison University, but not Pittsburgh Steelers University. Compared to professional teams, a lot more people are more involved in colleges since they have a personal connection to them.

RALPH AND HIS IMPECCABLE VIDEO DROP TIMING IS BACK!
Your commitment to uploading just after major news drops is genuinely astounding
The timing is like getting your food at a restaurant as soon as you go to the bathroom
Perfect timing as usual, Skill Up. The Switch 2 reveal happened minutes before this video dropped.
I saw the Nintendo Switch announcement and immediately thought "Look like Shill Up will be dropping in the next few minutes."
Remember when companies cared about making customers happy instead of stakeholders.
Those were better days.
Man, we're back in 2025 with the typical Skill-Up publication timing
I'm crying the switch 2 reveal showed up right before this video. The timing curse of Skill Up is truly cemented at this point.
30 minutes after the Swtich 2 reveal. Now that's how Skill Up starts the year
You know something big will be announced whenever skillup uploads this week in video games
Nintendo literally just shadow dropped the Switch 2 reveal video a few minutes before this video LOL
Name a more iconic duo than This Week in Videogames and missing important announcements by minutes
At this point the gaming industry is just waiting for Skillup to release This Week in Videogames before announcing stuff.
If you didn't mention the Cory Feldman resemblance, I would have never thought of it....but now that you mentioned it
9:45 pretty good prediction
