Officers Respond to an Unpermitted Event at Muscle Beach

- The Santa Monica Pier Safety Task Force, formerly known as the Unpermitted Vendor Task Force, respond to complaints of an unpermitted event by the United Revival Jesus march at Santa Monica Muscle Beach on Saturday, March 19, 2022. The gas generators were removed, and other issues were addressed.
The multi-department task force consists of Santa Monica Police Officers, Santa Monica Code Enforcement Officers, Santa Monica Fire Department personnel, Santa Monica Harbor Patrol Officers, Public Works and a private security guards.
The newly formed task force has been instrumental in helping to educate and enforce the City’s safety laws and ensuring safe sidewalk vending practices across the City.
According to information from the City of Santa Monica website www.santamonica.gov/topic-exp... ; Santa Monica was one of the first cities in the state to develop a permitted vending program. The City's comprehensive program that has allowed permitted or licensed vendors to operate for over 30 years includes permitting processes and parameters for safe vending, and today over 150 vendors are legally permitted to vend in the city. In 2018, the state law changed with the “Safe Sidewalk Vending Act” (SB 946) to provide important entrepreneurship and economic opportunities to low-income and immigrant communities.
State and local laws guide safe vending practices and standards in Santa Monica. All vendors need a City of Santa Monica business license and if applicable, a vending permit to sell any items in the City, and vendors selling food must also obtain and display a Los Angeles County Department of Public Health permit. The permit requirements reflect Santa Monica’s commitment to balancing public health and safety with expanding opportunities for micro-entrepreneurs.
Vendors are encouraged and welcome in many sidewalk locations throughout the City. In particular, sidewalk vendors are encouraged to vend on the sidewalk along Colorado Avenue between the Expo Light Rail Line (4th Street) and Ocean Avenue (top of the Santa Monica Pier). Street vending is restricted areas including Third Street Promenade, Palisades Park, Santa Monica Pier and the beach.

The guys working out are also taking over space without a permit....so who's right? I think it's a "first come first serve" situation... but I digress a Permit would have been a better way of going about this instead of creating a fiasco at the beach park... Even though the music is pretty great.
The "workout" dude in the green hat is being a bit of a tool. the park is not "sacred" space but public space.. I could go there easily and play frisbee or flag football with friends and it's too bad.

Key word is tiny. This is a 30 x 30 feet area designated for acrobatics and gymnastics. The grass is there for the safety of athletes during falls. We respect your worship but need this particular space. Maybe there is another area to set up and we can find a mutually beneficial solution?

Seems like Jesus and other enlightened people would suggest moving to the beach and using acoustic sound. One can spread their faith in a more peaceful way without extension cords from the meter parking area to the green. The Green area is a designated area for acroyoga and other exercise. It is sacred secular area for all without any specific religion. Come on humans learn to get along. The content of message of Christianity is irrelevant as all people must comply with the code despite the content of the message to be fair. Many people come to the beach for some solitude in a very loud city. Imagine if competing idea groups show up and all yell at each other over amplified sound.

The city of Santa Monica will be coming up with a law that will take care of all of this because the only ones who sing this way are groups like the activist set up.
