I’ll leave the game running if I’m doing something and name a brand new guest that entered the park after me and check in and see what his favorite ride is and what he’s done etc. It’s also very satisfying tracking one guest that you named after yourself explore your whole park that you built and seeing what they do. Splash boats are basically log flumes on steroids. That capacity per boat is absurd, and rightly so. While it is limited in compactness, the fact you can get such high excitement so easily makes it a very good option for parks.

    In RCT1, this ride was introduced in the Corkscrew Follies/Added Attractions pack as the River Ride. Its intended use was twofold: to be a gentle ride like the efficient design with no steep drops, or to be a thrill ride with steep drops. Loopy Landscapes later introduced the River Rafts (known then as the Raft Ride) as a purely gentle ride with no drops at all.
    Every tracked ride in RCT1 has its capacity dictated by its station length. Thus, the River Ride maxes out with 9 boats for a capacity of 144 guests-the most of any one ride in the game. The Log Flume, River Rapids, and River Ride in RCT1 can also get the dreaded *station brakes failure* breakdown, so you need to ensure boats slow down sufficiently between the last drop and the station to stay safe.

    Woah!! I didn't know you could do two different stations like at 4:36 -- that's wicked cool. That opens up a ton of design space actually, depending on how many different ride types you can do that with...
    Also really clever to use it to reduce lift times. I love this channel so much, it combines my love of nerding out on early gaming with computer programming.

    • @kABUSE1

    1:07 You probably know this better than I would but I'm wondering if the calculation for length here isn't based on distance traveled but rather "number of track pieces," as the ride with 30 boats is using less individual track pieces as a result of the S-Bends. Might be worth looking into?

    • @MarcelVos
      @MarcelVos  2 года назад +40

    I often use splash boats as a transport ride. Higher stats, debatably faster travel, higher capacity. Small parks generally ill do an entrance front and back of the park, as they get bigger i'll distribute more stops between them.
    Love the vid, great touch on the topic, i never realized before they don't have g calculation, I'll have to get a bit more wild with my designs.

  • @rubywest5166
    @rubywest5166 2 года назад +58

    Something not mentioned (I don't think), shared with log flumes and river rapids is that the boats lose speed a *lot* more quickly on flat track than uphill or downhill sections.
    As such the mini bunny hills on the medium design don't just boost the stats through extra drops, but also by making the ride faster. If you're making a *long* Splash boats (or log flume), and you're not worried about the upfront cost, remember to have hills instead of straight sections (where the boats don't slow down to lift speed) and when straight track is needed (e.g, turns), try to keep it high up (like you would for mid course brake runs).

  • @Z3tona
    @Z3tona 2 года назад +12

    I played around in the RCT price calculator and discovered another thing that makes the splash boats even better: you can charge more than many other rides for the same stats. For instance, for a splash boats with 9.00/8.00/8.00 excitement/intensity/nausea, you can charge $20 for the first 40 months in RCT2 vanilla, but for an air powered vertical coaster with the same stats, you'd have to drop the price below $20 after 13 months. This is balanced out in some other ways, like splash boats being harder to get high intensity/nausea and possibly having lower throughput, but I'll bet it has a better ratio of building cost to ticket price than almost any other tracked ride.

    • @cranapple3367
      @cranapple3367 2 года назад +2

      Probably different stat cost weights. We saw this before with the ultra efficient air powered launch, which eats an excitement penalty but still makes a fortune thanks to weighting intensity heavily.

  • @claudetheclaudeqc6600
    @claudetheclaudeqc6600 2 года назад +15

    I think why it is 55 seconds in the time by rct2, is because the ride actually gose at 0kmph/0mph, the stats windows seem to not reconise the time going up anymore, I think it's the same reason why we can exploit stuff in the car ride, as they stop calculating time when at 0kmph/0mph
    I did a ride sometime ago and saw it taked 50ish seconds, while it actually take like 2 minutes, it take a 0kmph/0mph lift hill in vertical, so it actually gose backwards, but nonetheless it only calculate whenever the speed is at least 1kmph/1mph, I think that's why it didn't follow the real time rule here.

    There's a bunch of counterintuative things - like putting stations at the _top_ of the ride with an immediate drop, and the lift hill at the end - that can seriously help throughput. This especially applies to low-friction rides, but even for splash boats can make a difference.

    You forgot one point (unless I missed it): Put the entrance on the SECOND tile for the splash boats because they get on from the front to the back, so the back is where the last guests will go.
    There are two more designs I would add that I use all the time:
    1. Put a double station. Climb to the max height. Two turns. Steep drop. Photo segment. Straight segments. Turn to station.
    2. Put a second station in the design from number one and mirror it (basically, take off the turns and mirror it).
    This is a big moneymaker and very cheap.
    If you have hills or want to build a tall path, it is a good idea to put the entrance at the top and the exit at the bottom of the lift hill. You can also experiment with bouncy falls or an extra little hill at the end.

    Nice to see The Splash Boats get some love. DL the file as i made a custom map to get 5k guest in. So now I have a way to pull more off of the paths. Oddly i made a V.D. coaster in that park with +8.28g and -3.65 that guest ride all the time. (E 6.81/ I 9.90 / N 4.21).

  • @shawnlyons6543
    @shawnlyons6543 2 года назад

    I noticed empty log flume boats can easily catch full boats on the lift hill as well in case anyone is wondering if this is unique in this. However, because of it's capacity the splash boats are probably more drastic.

    You know, I've played this game since I was 11, over 20 years ago, and I wrote off splash boats a long time ago because they seemed boring and I didn't realize the capacity was so high. But now it's like I've got a whole new expansion of RCT to play because I've been so negligent of the water rides. That's not what I expected from this video, but I'm very pleased!

    Another efficient Splash Boats Design:
    Take the 17 excitement ride only with 4 station platforms (one station tile, then one regular straight tile)x4
    This way the first 3 stations go for 1 tile and then immediately drop the guests off the ride and you can charge the maximum for the ride.
    You can also block off the final station so no guests waste their time actually riding the ride.

    With the final design, surely it would be beneficial to have the final drop earlier on, so that the boats don't just slam into the station as then the average speed will be much higher as a lot of the ride is just slow straight tracks

  • @Yayojayoful

    Someone probably already posted this, but, the boat ride seems partially based on Disney Boat rides which often have a small (13 foot or so) drop. Hence that specific requirement.
