Prick up your ears it's one of my favorite British movies . And it is truly amazing the likness between Joe Orton and Gary Oldman !!! A French fan of British movies .( Sorry if my English is not good.)
I wish he would have talked more about the casting and choice of Alfred Molina. Gary Oldman may have looked like Joe Orton and he did well portraying his laid back attitude, but Molina's portrayal of Halliwell is absolutely amazing! Yet he looks nothing like Halliwell (who was rather a short man). But, from all I have read about Halliwell himself, Molina's performance really rings true and he seems to almost 'become' the man himself. Very much like Joe Pesci did with Tommy in Goodfellas.
I live in Chile and I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it in the 90s. I always wanted to read a book by Joe Orton, but it took me years to get a copy in Spanish and from here. Now I have in my possession: "Diaries" and it's very interesting how the movie was done so well with the best of the book. Thanks for making this group for fans of playwright valuable.
Thanks for uploading. I had several issues with the movie- but clearly, Gary Oldman was amazing and perfect for the part. It is a very very watchable film.
@@burlhorse61 It is a good movie, but there were many liberties taken; i.e. Kenneth H didn't want to go to the awards- but here they made it up that he wanted to. The whole scenario with the Beatles was wrong too. To be honest, they could have easily made it factually correct without compromising the story- IMHO
I think it's a good film but i know what you mean. The story of Orton and The Beatles is much more interesting as told in the diaries and there's a lot more drama reading it, like Ken scrawling Joe's name in paint all over the wall in a fit of anger. I would have liked more of Joe's mischief in there, like the Edna Welthorpe letters and the fact that both Ken and Joe could imitate each others voices which often tricked friends on the phone. A friend of mine who's a screenwriter thought it was ok but should have delved deeper into this fractious relationship. Maybe so. I still find the film watchable. Great performances all round. Oldman is sensational.
We used to have a local video store, remember those?, Where I could call up and place a video on hold. I called that video store, and ask the girl do you have prick up your ears? And she mumbled something and hung up the phone.

Totally Agree - Molina played a difficult and complex character with warmth and feeling.

I felt sucked in to this tragic films ending incredible
shame he doesn't talk about the best performance in the movie; Alfred Molina
Ignored and sidelined like Halliwell himself.
For me the main problem with the film is it fails to portray the anguish Halliwell must have felt.

what issues?-thought it was quite good

@@simonwells61 most biopics are never factually accurate. Scenes are added on for dramatic effect.
@@burlhorse61 Yes indeed. It's a pet peeve of mine I do find real life more sensational than fiction- Joe Orton's life especially!
