I'm coaching U11 Girls in England and my club's VC sent me your corners video to work on this week. I'm now watching all your videos, as I really like the way you explain play patterns. Keep up the good work! (P.S. Going to use your 9v9 videos next season when we go more competitive.)
Hi coach, I want to add the unopposed patterns to our practice. I see in your sessions video that you do the build out break down games before the pattern choreography but I'm wondering if doing the unopposed stuff first might be helpful to them for the break down games. Do you ever do the patterns first, then break down games? Thanks as always for all your guidance!!
Loving these videos how would i do a pattern if im coaching 7 year olds who start from half way 5 v5? was thinking 3 up the front at the halfway line and 2 up the back but what would you suggest?
Well they are typically worked on separately but you could open it up full field and do pattern choreography combining both. I would say this isn’t as common as your usually focusing on on or the other in a training session.
Coach Rory, I'm in my first season of U10 coaching and having a blast. I want to teach the three build out patterns to our team for practice, but also don't want to be "Mr. Freeze" to much and want them to have fun, any suggestions on how I can help this be fun for them and not just a lecture and constant starting and stopping? Also any drills you have in general I'd be thankful for, I'm just trying to learn it's been so fun so far...
Yep. Once you get through the patterns a few times, play 7v3 (or 7v1, 7v2, 7v4 depending on level of the team) to the two small goals. If defenders win it, then they go to the big goal. Games to 3. Balls out restart with GK.
@@CoachRorySoccer Thank you so much, we went through one BOOTB pattern last night. I did hear one "why are we stopping so much". What do you do when the guys are wild and all over the place and even talking back? Most of my team are 8 year olds.
@@brianhinkle5057 Yeah this is a constant battle. At that age you are going to have some kids who are into it and behaved and others who are goofing around. You just hope you get through to most of them! The first few times you do this it can be rough, but stick with it! I promise its worth it to see them move that ball around at a young age.
I always find it difficult to play against teams that aren’t teaching the same formation and patterns , they just bunch and all run to the ball increasing the pressure on our players it’s frustrating. I’m going to keep trying to teach the patterns however so that one day they’ll realize they can pass Around the lack of tactics with awareness and crisper passes .
This videos really have improved my football game knowledge so I’ve just wanted to thank you
Awesome thanks!

Thank you! Trying to add more 9v9 content to the channel!

Yes I will often do patterns first. Sometimes that makes more sense.
@@CoachRorySoccer awesome, thank you!!!

Check out by futsal attacking pattern video. It’s 5v5 and could help.
I’m not sure how to connect these build out patterns with the finishing videos/ attacking patterns.
