It doesn't matter what EA does for the rest of it's existence. They will never be forgiven for what they did to UO and for cancelling UO 2. It will NEVER be forgotten EA.
i remember seeing this and being hyped. It was so cool, that weird looking futuristic city is impossibly cool, some sort of Dark/iron/studpunk! I love the verticality, elevators, cities above and below. Simply inspired and inspiring.
I remember downloading this as quicktime on a 56k for two days. I saved it and still have it on CD. I use to watch it and get pumped for school. I was so excited about the mix and matching magic types. Earth + Fire = lava. Water + Fire made steam/air. RIP OU2
I remember playing UO when this game was being made and being SO excited about it. Believe it or not, this was a gorgeous game for its time. Times have changed, though, and WoW's success has made most western developers afraid to risk the resources on a fresh concept. I can't remember the last time I was genuinely excited about a new MMO, and kind of doubt I ever will be again. :(
Just read an article about 38 Studios Copernicus and it reminded me of this game, a game that never was. I too watched this video a lot way back when, thanks for the upload.
Holy crap! I haven't seen this video in years, thanks for posting it. I was so looking forward to UO2...too bad it got scratched. I love the martial arts part! ha
@MrSlayer95 this was supposed to be the follow up for the longest ever continually run mmorpg (and still running) the video is nearly a decade old, keep that in mind before you critizise the graphics or lack of details.
I still have a Computer Gaming World demo disc with interviews of the devs, The behinds the scenes of the music and some gameplay footage. I was soo ready to sign up then it died.
and when I say left, I meant they moved into Trammel, another facet safe from PvP. Not long after that, people got bored and moved to other games. No question that the PvP element this game had, and not knowing if you were going to survive your mining trip or whatever else you did, kept people grouping up and helping each other, either in defense or revenge. It was great fun.
True, Ultima was left in the dust with supurb and vivid graphics the game is still drawing back followers from years ago. Not everyone wants to be a part of swat forces attacking the enemy. Some of us like to just live in a virtual world with room for all.
if u guys want a UO2 check out darkfall. it uses the same lore as UO and some of its concepts come from UO such as full loot and skill based gameplay(nolevels and classes)
@HalfLifeHalfDead Haha, I figured you would. :) I searched my current computer to see if I copied it over. I'm defiantly looking for it. Digging out old computer and going through archive CDs over the upcoming week. :) fingers crossed. I looked for it on youtube and google video search... it seems no one has anything like it... so I'm extra motivated.
OMG that bring back memories both good and bad.. Loved all the times passed on UO forum waiting for this game to come out, watching this video over and over, but just to find out one morning that UO2 was shut down and I think it was around the month or March. I was pissed at EA for a while.. lol at me signing petition online like it would change something HAHA I wanted that game so bad!!!
You might be thinking of the 7th Anniversery Edition of UO where it came with Ultima IX. UO2 never got out of internal testing, sadly and so it was never available. (If it had been, don't you think there'd be freeshards for it?)
Because this game is old as hell, I think I have an old magazine with the first preview for Duke Nukem Forever... And there is some screenshots for this.
I remember this video quite vividly. So many people here knock on it, but you perhaps don't realize that this video is eight years old. This is pre-xbox, WoW and all that junk. It was groundbreaking stuff for it's day. It's a shame it was canceled.
I remember i got this video on a demo disc in i think a pc gaming magazine and i would watch it over and over just clambering over its release.... Eight or nine years later i see this video and i have to say only one thing.... FAAAIIILLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
Still waiting for uo2. Cant wait for the day, hopefully it will happen. I Almost want to get back on my old uo account, log in every now and then just to keep it updated.
Uo2 was redone and renamed to shroud of the avatar. Which only took the essence of the game but is very different because of the contract and legal issues with EA
+Mike Durrant UO:Forever is a great free shard, really vibrant. somewhere between UO Renaissance and T2a with Felucca only. I'm nearly 30 and I'm back into UO big time thanks to this shard
I still play UO ans I started the first day it hit the shelves back in 97. I still love it. Never been into PvP, have allways been the role player and dungeon crawler (not to say I have not done and learned it). I still think it was the best gaming creation ever. I also still play PlanetSide. It is such a different game that I also Love.
I noticed something. These animations are better than Warhammer Onlines, I'm not joking, these animations really are better. they even used motion tracking for this game
Electronic Arts never appreciated Richard Garriots brilliant concept. It's about the game, not about how high the resolution of the graphics are. You've only have to look at the dramatic success of Minecraft, a simple game with simple graphics and unlimited possibilities.
Is there a sandbox game like UO? Coincidentally, I have only played UO and Starwars Galaxies, both considered "sandbox" games. Everything else seems like a linear quest after quest game. I want something more player driven and customize-able.
@HalfLifeHalfDead Yeah, such a shame... With all the video card enhancements today, it would probably be an AMAZING game now. I should dig up my UO2 videos. I have a really rare one I got from one of the staff at the time of the "UO2 Burning" party they had. When it was canceled they burned everything. Shirts, disks, hard drives, posters. Ima dig that up and post.
Ultima was one of the first mmos ever so, of course its one of the best, way ahead of its time, many games toke after there system build ups LONG LIVE EVOLUTION Games such as: Diablo WOW Runes of magic Runescape List goes on.... ---->
All those wanting to play this game again... RunUO released a new freeshard called Revelation. Google UO Revelation, Its bringing back that oldschool feeling. :) Love it there
I've been playing Ultima online for the past few months on 2 free shards (Second age and Hybrid both classic 2d client). Never played it before and even without modern graphics i think its the best game ever made.
there is always hope...i just tested the orginal UO...dont understand so much but preety much enjoyed it ;) do if he id going to make an UO 2 then im preety sure im going too buy it :P
@NikolaJMurray Hey bro, I played on Catskills late 1997 thru 2001.. I remember Death Jesters... I was in a guild called Cookie Chef Clan [CCC]... I used to love a good pk dungeon run! Do u remember a guy named BabeNukem or Adrock?
I remember seeing this video back around 8 years ago, and reading how they did everything, and the costs behind some of the technology. Little brats these days with their x360's as their first system have no understanding of these things, but this game would have been well beyond its time if it was released. Unfortunate.
loved the old game. the skill scrolls were too much trouble though. It's not like getting 100 magic resistance wasn't hard enough before those damn scrolls came out, and you had to go to 120. The early days, where you could have an awesome character with 7 gm skills and easily survive with 5 gm or even 3 gm skills, were much better. The introduction of Trammel broke this game, even when they were trying to fix the biggest problem it had. So people had to either LTP or leave, most left :(
The game itself was amazing. This video does it no justice. They scrapped it for the new expansion thats coming in 07. Hope it does something, getting tired of the old interface and been playing since 97.
Been coming back to this video since 2008 just to hear this song
I'm glad I can come here and watch this again and again! I can't believe this was cancelled 20+ years ago already.
Music is still pretty good. Some things never go out of style.
It doesn't matter what EA does for the rest of it's existence. They will never be forgiven for what they did to UO and for cancelling UO 2. It will NEVER be forgotten EA.
still true
Let's raid EA instead.
The nostalgia.. And this video is such a rare find. 😊
i remember seeing this and being hyped. It was so cool, that weird looking futuristic city is impossibly cool, some sort of Dark/iron/studpunk! I love the verticality, elevators, cities above and below. Simply inspired and inspiring.

The animations are stunning! Why can't we have this quality in most mmorpgs today? WHY!?
It's so sad to think of Ultima as being finished... meaning that the concept is lost. I found the Ultima world to be one of the best.
I remember watching this video over and over again.
Just read an article about 38 Studios Copernicus and it reminded me of this game, a game that never was. I too watched this video a lot way back when, thanks for the upload.
I remember absolutely hating it when it came out. Hated 3D and hated the "machine/industrial" look of the world
You can tell they didn't have much at this point, sad it got cancelled but I guess they realized it was going to cost ALOT to make a huge 3d world
still have my fingers crossed for a 2016 UO2 release, LOL!
2018 release here we come
2019 still waiting
2020 Gonna be the year for sure
2021 has to be the year!
@@DeriumsPokemon maybe 2025?
you got to realize that this was really crazy graphix at the time
wow
this game seems to have more atmosphere
as many games today
even it was never released
The music is a remix of "Love is Hell" from "Grim Faeries".
I still see this an cry a little... truly sad they did not release it.
Featuring music by: Blinkn Marcz
Those graphics r so realistic. Can't wait 4 its release.
I am working a project to recreate the finer elements of the early years of UO. Stay tuned...
Holy crap! I haven't seen this video in years, thanks for posting it. I was so looking forward to UO2...too bad it got scratched. I love the martial arts part! ha
@MrSlayer95 this was supposed to be the follow up for the longest ever continually run mmorpg (and still running)

holy SHIT
NOSTALGIA BLAST
These 3D graphics might be technologically archaic, but the art it really very good, and the animations are great for their time
my older cousin had showed me this video back when I was younger. I was so amazed that I wanted to play Ultima but sadly I never got the chance.
Pretty fluid game play for the year 2000. I heard about this many years ago. Never really knew why i never surfaced.
I still have a Computer Gaming World demo disc with interviews of the devs, The behinds the scenes of the music and some gameplay footage. I was soo ready to sign up then it died.
coming ''soon''
and when I say left, I meant they moved into Trammel, another facet safe from PvP. Not long after that, people got bored and moved to other games. oh my god this game still looks amazing! I remember being blown away by this when this was first shown but wow it still holds up!
Could someone tell me what group this is on the music? Cool sounding song.
if u guys want a UO2 check out darkfall. it uses the same lore as UO and some of its concepts come from UO such as full loot and skill based gameplay(nolevels and classes)

@museluvr
It's called Love is Hell by Grim Faeries.
I still have it on my Ipod. ;)
OMG that bring back memories both good and bad.. Damn, I had forgotten about this! I actully bought Blackthorns Revange thinking it was this game ^^
R.I.P. UO2
@Anas507 yes there is! secondage com !
You might be thinking of the 7th Anniversery Edition of UO where it came with Ultima IX. UO2 never got out of internal testing, sadly and so it was never available. (If it had been, don't you think there'd be freeshards for it?)

@CVXC4 Actually before UO there was Kingdom of Drakkar.
that WAS amazing at the time
can't figure out why ea and garriot begun crazy against each others
Keep in mind its also 10 years old.
this is too cool!! if it came out i woulnt be such a wower!
I remember this video quite vividly. So many people here knock on it, but you perhaps don't realize that this video is eight years old. This is pre-xbox, WoW and all that junk. It was groundbreaking stuff for it's day. It's a shame it was canceled.
I like the striking similarities between this game and Ultima 9 Ascension ^_^
Crazy that I'd never heard of this. Would have been horrifying even back then lol.
Dude if Ultima 2 ever came out it would have been more sick than WoW
I think a part of me actually died when this game never came out. My left pinkie finger...
THEY NEED TO GET A LITTLE TEAM TOGETHER AND START A KICKSTARTER PROJECT!
If this game had come out, we'd have a higher standard of mmos today.
I want to find the music from this movie can anyone tell me who sing it?
@thedrunkenpiratesUO still has along way to go but check into dawntide it follows the uo model pretty well
Grim Faeries - Love is Hell ... they use a remixed version in this video that cuts out the lyrics.
this game wouldve been awesome if it came out, they put a lot of detail into the character moves to make them realistic
holy shit i remember i jizzed my pants when I saw this 10 years ago.
I remember i got this video on a demo disc in i think a pc gaming magazine and i would watch it over and over just clambering over its release.... Eight or nine years later i see this video and i have to say only one thing....
FAAAIIILLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

Uo2 was redone and renamed to shroud of the avatar. Which only took the essence of the game but is very different because of the contract and legal issues with EA
+Mike Durrant, Shroud of Avatar is basically UO2... But not finished
+Mike Durrant DO NOT GOTO SHROUD OF THE AVATAR. IT IS NOT UO2, IT IS RUBBISH
+Mike Durrant UO:Forever is a great free shard, really vibrant. somewhere between UO Renaissance and T2a with Felucca only. I'm nearly 30 and I'm back into UO big time thanks to this shard
how can Shroud be like this? This one looks like some kind of techno dystopic middle ages.
Did you come here through a time portal from 1990 or something? We can do ANYTHING with computers nowadays.
I noticed something. These animations are better than Warhammer Onlines, I'm not joking, these animations really are better. they even used motion tracking for this game
why hasnt this come out yet? i stopped playing ultima online almost ten years ago because it was too old.
Electronic Arts never appreciated Richard Garriots brilliant concept. It's about the game, not about how high the resolution of the graphics are. You've only have to look at the dramatic success of Minecraft, a simple game with simple graphics and unlimited possibilities.
It is just as the answer on WoW forums said this game was: " Ultima Online is known as Electronic Arts' ultimate failure."
Is there a sandbox game like UO? Coincidentally, I have only played UO and Starwars Galaxies, both considered "sandbox" games. Everything else seems like a linear quest after quest game. I want something more player driven and customize-able.
+Glen T Darkfall Online and Mortal Online are both sandboxes and like UO very much PvP and skill based rather than level based and no classes.
Anyone know the song for this?
Ultima was one of the first mmos ever so, of course its one of the best, way ahead of its time, many games toke after there system build ups LONG LIVE EVOLUTION
Games such as:
Diablo
WOW
Runes of magic
Runescape
List goes on.... ---->
All those wanting to play this game again... RunUO released a new freeshard called Revelation. Google UO Revelation, Its bringing back that oldschool feeling. :) Love it there
I remember when EA put this trailer out. At the time it looked so kewl. Was so disapointed when EA tanked it.
It was 86'd years ago.
I heard it was because they didnt want it to compete with UO, but that was just a rumor, not telling if it's true.
anyone knows the name of this song?
How can I rpi the music off tell me a program pls
A world that never was...so sad...
I've been playing Ultima online for the past few months on 2 free shards (Second age and Hybrid both classic 2d client). Never played it before and even without modern graphics i think its the best game ever made.
amazing graphics for its time.
there is always hope...i just tested the orginal UO...dont understand so much but preety much enjoyed it ;) do if he id going to make an UO 2 then im preety sure im going too buy it :P
@NikolaJMurray
Hey bro, I played on Catskills late 1997 thru 2001.. I remember Death Jesters... I was in a guild called Cookie Chef Clan [CCC]...
I used to love a good pk dungeon run!
Do u remember a guy named BabeNukem or Adrock?
omg a two headed monster that fights with itself?! thats brilliant. why dont more games have him?
@willo248
OH lol no no the trailer. Not the game. I wasn't lucky enough to get into the UO2 alpha.
Some one know the name of this music?
So true, so true, i was fealing the exact same way when i seen this!
I remember seeing this video back around 8 years ago, and reading how they did everything, and the costs behind some of the technology.
Little brats these days with their x360's as their first system have no understanding of these things, but this game would have been well beyond its time if it was released. Unfortunate.
UO was awesome! Wish they would make a new game based on the concepts of the original UO
@bubba224422
not to forget interplay and black isle for atleast the fallout 1&2 and some other nice stuff
Thank you for this video.
loved the old game. the skill scrolls were too much trouble though. It's not like getting 100 magic resistance wasn't hard enough before those damn scrolls came out, and you had to go to 120. kick ass music and vid
Well thank you for that. You did a great job.
Ridgeback looked ftw
The game itself was amazing. This video does it no justice. They scrapped it for the new expansion thats coming in 07. Hope it does something, getting tired of the old interface and been playing since 97.
when was this set for release?
@MachetePanda That was exactly my point, few would've jumped ship for UO2, they weren't competing at all. Not that EA ever considered that...
Because EA bought origin at that time and said ist wasnt good enough
Thanks for the vid.
God I wish UO was still the game it was pub16. That game was fucking amazing back in the day... 10 year vet ^_~
Have you noticed that the UO2 symbol looks ALOT like the Sacred 2 symbol? odd huh?
