Ultima VII still stands as my favorite PC game of all time...don't get me wrong, I love me some Morrowind and Skyrim from time to time..but even though Ultima VII can't possible hold a candle to those games when it comes to graphics and sound, it surpasses them easily when it comes to creating a believable world. Richard Garriott, come back to Planet Earth...there's real momentum behind PC gaming again, get back into those ridiculous clothes, make the magic happen :-)
The UC was my first introduction to Ultima. I'll never forget the years of jotting down comprehensive notes, mapping EVERYTHING for the sheer pleasure of completing the task and living out a virtual life as the avatar.
*worships* I'm now reading "The COmplete Ultima" by Shay Adams. Great book, discusses U1-6 and explains a lot of things. Ultima 7 is my favourite game in the series, although I still haven't played absolutely all of them. (I've tried 5, 6, 8, 9) I think one of the positive things in Ultima 7 is that sometimes bad deeds aren't so bad. When you can do bad things and get by with it to an extent it adds realism.
It's funny to watch this video now, because it was actually on an CD-Magazine called 'Interactive Entertainment', which I had a few years before the Ultima Collection came out, and featured it. Ultima 4 did have a cloth map, and the manual included the runic dictionary. I have no idea where mine is anymore; the only ones I have still are the ones from 7, 7.5, 8, 9, and Ultima Online.
Ultima is the best and always will be. My favorite of all time was Ultima 5 which had a great story and was a very long and enjoyable game. Ultima 3 was very cool also and very creepy.
Freaking legend, man! Love this dude. Wearing his full regalia. I want an outfit like that, and I want to hang with Lord British in his spaceship, in our outfits. Sweet! I love these oldschool fantasy games, like Phantasie!
I remember when I was a kid I got Ultima 7 for my birthday. I spent ages just trying to get it to work become of the funky sound thing but when I got it working.... Well, jet's just say that not many games live up to U6s standard.
I loved all the ultimas but I think Ultima VII was my favorite of all time. The first Ultima I ever played was Ultima II back in like 1985 on an Apple IIE.
@tascott59 Apparently the "Lord British" moniker was his friends way of referring to him in College or something like that because of his way to say hello.
going to play these in order(and all the spin offs) from 1-9 and the "worlds" and "underworlds"' too. In Akalabet you may pick your PC but your actually playing Lord British (later plotwise)
I just wish game developers would make games that had "gasp" good story telling and intresting charter development, I am so sick games where I fight hundreds of creatures and I am simply fighting them because they "are there", ultima is one of the first games I played where my actions realy mattered ,In ultima 4 if you acted in a bad manor and stole from someone the people would lose trust in you ,almost all modern games lack true "cause and effect" its just grind to a higher level.
9 was not released when ultima collection was released. The last ultima game at that day was ultima online. I do think he commented on ultima 8 in the original, and the person who uploaded might have missed it. (Don't take my word for it, my memory aint that great)
The absence of Truth, Love, and Courage is Pride. Pride is the surest measure of goals never attained. Pride goes before, shame comes after. This shame leads to awareness of Humility, the root from which all Virtues grow. Humility is to strip oneself of all conceits. - from the Ultima Wiki. Really, it's not, snobbery so much as overwhelming arrogance.
@bustaphatty Because he's a massive D&D fan? Really he's such a big nerd for these type of things that he inserts himself into his own games under the guise of Lord British (no I'm not joking) and before you ask yes he has an American accent but his actual nationality is British-American .
Jeff Morris, please excuse me, but I must ask this: has there been any updates on Bioforge Plus, since the alleged source code was discovered a few years back? God, I actually remember playing that game when it came out in 1995 (I was three years old at the time). It is one of the best of mid-1990s! Was Bioforge Plus completed before being shelved? Could you please gives us some info? Pretty please, Jeff? The way Bioforge ended... a part of my dad's life and my own are not complete. The fans and I have been waiting so long for a conclusion. A response to at least give us some hope would really help... :D
Pride, in Ultima, refers to excessive Pride, which is essentially self conceit along the lines of "Oh, I'm so great, I could do this and this and this and I'm so much better than everybody else" THEN you get a rude awakening, and realize you aren't hot shit, and are shamed. As a result you learn humility, the root of the 8 virtues, and the path to enlightenment begins.
There was no talking about Ultima 9 in this interview set. It was part of a collection released while Ultima 9 was still yet to come and being promoted by EA.
So snobbery, i guess its the amount, say wanting something you need is good, but unreasoning excessive wants become greed. Still the whole wiping out the town in u4 because they thought they were special seemed extreme. Garriott should of defined the sin of pride better.
Because his alter-ego within the game series, Lord British, is a king. That character is based on him, and several other recurring characters are based on his real-life friends and acquaintances.

Ultima 4 and Ultima 7 are in the best ones, in my opinion; 7 being my favorite.

I totally admire Garriott and what he did for RPGs. Ultima, along with early Final Fantasy and Baldur's Gate forged the way
It's freakkin' Richard Garriot, that's how he rolls dawg
Ultima Online was my first 3d MMORPG. Will always have a place in my heart. Along with hearing Stones play whenever you got on xD
I remember when I was a kid I got Ultima 7 for my birthday. I spent ages just trying to get it to work become of the funky sound thing but when I got it working.... Well, jet's just say that not many games live up to U6s standard.

wow, he really just sold a homemade game and got picked up? inspirational.
@tascott59 Apparently the "Lord British" moniker was his friends way of referring to him in College or something like that because of his way to say hello.
Ultima 7 (both parts) was his best work, period.
going to play these in order(and all the spin offs) from 1-9 and the "worlds" and "underworlds"' too. In Akalabet you may pick your PC but your actually playing Lord British (later plotwise)
ultima 4 was the best... such a massive game when your a kid. good times!
I enjoyed 6 myself, I've played 4 5 and 6, never played any others though. Can't really find them now days.
57 people will be with Richard Garriott in the afterlife.
RICHARD GARRIOTT REVEALED A NEW ULTIMA GAME YESTERDAY SHROUD OF THE AVATAR
love the ultima games! richard garriot is awesome :D

@tascott59 He is. But he grew up in the states especially in Texas. So he has an American accent.
I always had a problem with pride being evil in the ultima series, surely its not evil to feel pride in something you create or accomplish.
Ultima 7 Serpent Isle was the best iteration of the series. 8 & 9 should have used the same engine as 7.
9 was not released when ultima collection was released. The last ultima game at that day was ultima online. I do think he commented on ultima 8 in the original, and the person who uploaded might have missed it. (Don't take my word for it, my memory aint that great)

where can I get an outfit like that??
@Ghaz3k - GOG.com has every single Ultima game til 7, for prices like 5.99$ per trilogy.
@bustaphatty Because he's a massive D&D fan? Really he's such a big nerd for these type of things that he inserts himself into his own games under the guise of Lord British (no I'm not joking) and before you ask yes he has an American accent but his actual nationality is British-American .
@clubpokemon224 haha I think he was born there but his family moved.
agreed
hmmm i actualy thought that lord british was actualy british
LOL what is he wearing?
Garriot is a frikin legend in the gaming industry..
Jeff Morris, please excuse me, but I must ask this: has there been any updates on Bioforge Plus, since the alleged source code was discovered a few years back?

@bustaphatty
Thats what I wanna know too man!
@clubpokemon224 he was born in england
8 had technical problems. Technical problems can be fixed.
But 9....
whew....nonetheless still the greatest game ever.
Best Solo RPG ever: Ultima 7 including Serpent Isle
Best Game ever: Ultima Online
You can buy every single Ultima game (except for 9) at gog.com :)
@TwilightPrince123 :
I didn`t like Ultima 7 because of the inventory system.
i am german and even i think you sound british
UO is not crushed.

I thought they killed him.
First rule of talkingto lord british, DON TALK ABOUT ULTIMA 8 OR 9
There was no talking about Ultima 9 in this interview set. It was part of a collection released while Ultima 9 was still yet to come and being promoted by EA.
We could go with it, but it's not the true answer.
Bloody EA. They were shameless to disgrace Origin and Westwood in such a way.
So snobbery, i guess its the amount, say wanting something you need is good, but unreasoning excessive wants become greed.
Still the whole wiping out the town in u4 because they thought they were special seemed extreme.
Garriott should of defined the sin of pride better.
A neat character, but what the hell is he wearing?
why is he dressed like that?
Because his alter-ego within the game series, Lord British, is a king. That character is based on him, and several other recurring characters are based on his real-life friends and acquaintances.
