Unfortunately it's because the company is becoming more popular and i feel like now they're cutting corners but i agree the 2.0 of any of their packs are far superior tho i do like the full molle on the 3.0. How is the material quality compared to the 2.0? I have a gumut 2.0 currently trying to track down a ready pack 2.0 in heather grey
unfortunately i dont have the 3.0 to compare the material quality. but im sure both are great! I have a ready pack 2.0 in black. i use that one much more than the gamut!
I wanted to upgrade my 1.0 this year and saw there was a 3.0 and was initially super stoked as I felt the 2.0 addressed some things about the 1.0 I didnt care for and then I saw that the 3.0 was a disappointment. Taking away the side pocket functionality of 2.0, the extra zipper pouch in the main compartment, and the front “beaver tail” material change are all areas that are big L’s. I did appreciate the bigger top outside pouch and hook and loop attachment for the top inside. Overall, I'm going to ride my 1.0 out another year and hope Vertx comes out with a better 4.0 next year. I think I actually like the 2.0 better. Glad I didn’t wait for this one. It’s also a huge backpack and I’m not sure I’d really need a much bigger backpack. I love mine, but it is too large to just lug around all day everywhere. I think I’d get a lot of eyes on me.
It seems like the new EDC Ready Pack is an upgrade, since it is a smaller bag it should be highly customizable and light weight. That seems to be what they’ve done. Delete all the admin and organizer pockets and replace them with straight Velcro so you can attach your own organizers and pouches. But you’re right, the Gamut has changed into something that’s not the Gamut. I got the Gamut Checkpoint thinking it would be a sleeker bag that fit my needs for a larger bag more. Not really, but I will say that the Checkpoint is very similar IMO to the new Gamut 3.0
Great video! I have the Gamut 2.0 and the single biggest issue I have is with the main compartment zipper and how it curves over the top of the bag! This is one of the most bothersome zippers I have ever had to deal with. Did they fix that, on the 3.0? Or is it still terrible?
I had the same problem with 5.11 Tactical's now discontinued Amp 24 Pack... Really sucks... Slows you down every single time you want to clamshell the pack open... it's a deal braker for me.. no joke stopped using it & just went back to the tried and true Rush 12.. Shame. Yeah I'd be really interested to see how people answer this question because right now whether I buy a Gamut or not hinges on the answer. Seems like the hot pull tab would help though..
Well put together video. I agreed with everything you touched on. I actually had bought a 3.0 to replace my 2.0 and immediately hated it. It’s like they took everything that is awesome about the 2.0 and totally scrubbed it from the 3.0. Huge step backward. I returned the 3.0 the day it arrived. If you’re reading this Vertx, y’all really messed up an otherwise excellent pack.
One of the issues i have with edc bag trends is the pouches inside of a bag instead of organizers because your putting a bag inside of a bag with is inconvenient for just grabbing daily items so then leaves me to the point that you end up habing to buy admin panels which there is not alot of panels available in small sizes the purpose being instead of loading a bunch of useless things and making your backpack heavy you loose accessibility in the sense of convenience like just opening your admin part of the bag and simply grabbing instead of doing extra.
I would suggest wearing the bag and showing it off. I never understood why nobody wears it to show how it looks and sits on your back.
Height and weight for reference would be nice as well.

Vertx now states on their site that the 3.0 is 25 liters.

would a 32 oz or 40 oz bottle fit in the side pockets? If not, would they fit inside the pack?
the 3.0 is the best for me because water bottle holder in side because the old bottle holder was always fulling out and molly is so much better.

you can, if the bungees are completely loose, but you won't be able to put anything in the pockets behind the water bottle

The 1.0 and 2.0 versions are still available. I actually had a harder time finding the 3.0.
They say the dimensions are the same but 3L more space? Doesn't make sense.
