- Are cervical exams actually necessary to know that you are dilating in labor? Nope!
I have been a doula for many women who have opted out of exams during labor because they are uncomfortable and are not usually helpful for their mental state in labor. This was my story as well since I knew from the first time around that it wasn't very helpful for me when I thought I should've been further along.
One of the things I like to prepare my mamas for in labor is knowing how to trust their bodies to tell them everything they need to know about how labor is going.
One of these things is how to know that your body is progressing without you needing a cervical exam to know.
While this may not be everyone's preference, I think it's important to know your options and how to connect with your body in labor. There may be times in labor where it's necessary to check or even you care to know but know that it is your right to refuse them (no matter how pressured you are).
Save and like this video to help yourself and other mamas prepare for a smoother and less invasive labor experience.

My daughter is wanting to start doula classes. Your videos have been so helpful for us both!
Oh these are great! Your videos helped my patience this pregnancy tremendously!
Thank you so much!
If contractions are suppose to start off spaced apart, I don't understand why mine were never spaced apart. When the hospital hooked me up, they noticed that before a contraction would fully end, another contraction would start. And it would happen a 2-3 times before I'd get a break for a couple minutes before having to go through it again. It was literal agony. I've commented on other videos how I ended up needing a c section. And it's hard to say if it was or was not necessary to have a c section. My contractions were wacky, but my baby was very low and I was fully effaced, but I didn't progress past 3cm after 27 hours..... I hope my planned VBAC goes well in March 2024....
this happened to my friend. She didn't have a break in super strong contractions coming in every minute and wouldn't dilate beyond 1 cm after 22 hours. She had to get an epidural to relax her cervix and once that was done, she went right up to 10cm in 2 hours and had her baby vaginally. I'd like to know why this happens to some women as well.
How did it go? Did u get induce the first time?
Unless you can reduce tension in the body, dilation becomes difficult. Learning to let go is key. Check out hopnobirthing and practice breathing and relaxation. ❤
❤️🤗✨Thank you… this is so helpful🥰

Sending you positive birthing vibes, mama!!
I got a cervical check in between 2 contractions and I didn't find it painful or uncomfortable.
