I was wearing a Hawley retainer for years and since I grind my teeth my orthodontist recommend a night gaurd instead. He said the night gaurd can be used instead of the retainer to hold my teeth in place
Yes! As long as it’s a hard plastic then a night guard will work as a retainer as well. I am a grinder too and have a night guard as well but it’s pretty bulky so usually I prefer the essix retainer. Both are good but the night guard is more heavy duty
Hawley prevent my tongue from resting in the proper position what are your thoughts on that. I’ve been wearing the hawley for 10 years and worry it’s ruined my facial development. Switching to Essix next week.
They each have their benefits and downsides. For me personally, I would choose an Essix over Hawley, mostly because I grind and clench my teeth at night. Hope this helps!
