Mad props to you for being so open about everything and not just getting down on your self and not doing shit with your life after I didn’t work out. You kept up that high energy and work ethic and I hope
RUclips makes a good second career! Best of luck to you in everything
Thank you!!!! Thanks so much for commenting and watching our videos!
Had a kid in the Braves organization sign for 125K... so about 65k after taxes. Used a fake ID to run up a 30k bar tab at House of Blues in Downtown Disney one night. Considering he came to mini camp with a new Expedition on rims I’m sure his bonus was gone within a week. Crazy.
This is fake news
MBA NONI huh?
Fuck!!!
Evidently you have never made over 100k... the tax take is not nearly that much bud.
Austin Kelly bonuses are taxed at 40% in my state 100k signing bonus would net u 60k
No shame in buying your Mom a car. It means you're a good guy.
No it doesn't. It doesn't mean anything.
@Paras finn right. did mom actually need a car? maybe. would a $15,000 car do the same thing a $100,000 car can do? certainly
Brian Schroeder y’all mad jealous. If you got that money you’d do the same if not buy a more expensive one
Burt1038 you’re such a disrespectful asshole.
buying your parents who raised you something expensive is only fair considering they probably spent more on you compared to how much you give them.
Paras Mento buying your parents something is necessary show how much you care for them
Take it from someone who worked at a Jaguar dealership, don't buy a Jaguar. They are pieces of crap.
I’ve always wanted an x-mlb player that has a RUclips channel that he answers peoples comments👍🔥
Lightning McQueer he didn’t really play his wrist was fucked so he was kinda, a bust really...
@@big_whiskey1387 Still more than you ever accomplished.
Big_Whiskey13 still played in the big league which is better than 99.99% of other people
$1.575 M in case anyone was wondering. That number is almost double these days.
That is correct! Thanks so much for watching our videos and I appreciate you commenting!!
@@AntonelliBaseball Oddly enough, I'm not a Baseball guy. Otherwise I'd be out there shanking umpires. But I'm glad you're making these videos. As I get to learn something that isn't associated with my profession. Which in any way is better than work.
Hi I just watched your video on getting paid in the minors and had a question.
Do you get a signing bonus and then a salary? You said you played mlb for league minimum
AB 87
You get the signing bonus for signing the contract. After that you make your salary which is separate. For a minor leaguer it isn’t much. After you make it to the majors you start the clock on your arbitration years. It takes 3 years after you start your clock by playing a minimum number of mlb games (I forget the amount of games) to reach your arbitration years. Before your arbitration years the team has 100% control of how much they play players. Once you reach the arbitration years your agent and the team’s reps present arguments infront of a neutral arbitrator who sets the salary during the arbitration years.
After 3 arbitration years, in any year a player is not under contract they are a free agent and can sign with any team. This is where the players can make the huge money. Some teams will offer players contracts earlier in the process to lock them up. Players often sign for the stability of guaranteed earnings.
I don’t know why you would regret buying the Jaguar with that kind of money, I’m guessing it wasn’t much over 6 figures(?). Most people spend half their annual income on one
I can appreciate your honesty....👌...love your channel...✌️😎
Came across this channel by chance. Which was only yesterday. Completely addicted to it. Played baseball for 12 years. This channel is outstanding.
I havent played baseball since i was 8 but I am absolutely hooked on your videos
That picture is clickbait2018 to a tee. lol
Haha you know it lol. Thanks for watching!!
Taco Stacks it's the car from gta 5 .his signing bonus went to shark cards
@@supremeleaderharryballs8104 well it’s a real car
Love when you do these videos cause it feels like we’re sitting on the porch hanging out
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching!!
Wait you didnt get a tiger?
AP 530 none wanted to leave Detroit.
can you do a video about taxes you had to pay and on the signing bonus and do you still have checks
I think you did alright overall and good move on investments.
thanks for sharing!
Nice work! Good advice.
Thanks for answering the question about how much you received of your bonus after taxes and agent cuts. Always wanted an example 👍
You’re my favorite RUclipsd to watch
Literally I was about to comment what kind of car it was and as soon and i started typing you said it was a Jag. Funny how things work sometimes.
Your story is great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Edward!!! Thanks a bunch for watching our stuff and commenting!
Jaguars are notorious for being high maintenance to keep running, man.
Thank you for the great videos and insight on what it's like to be part of the pros! Based on your other videos, you must have had to set aside some of your bonus to live off of since the minors don't pay much, right?
Great advice!
Thanks!
Great channel. Thanks!
Treat every paycheck like it could be your last and have something tangible to show for your efforts besides memories. You did the right thing with yours, well done.
Thanks so much!! Thanks for watching our stuff and commenting!
Hey Matt...it’s Matt. Great video. I own stocks and handle my own portfolio. I have Apple and Microsoft as my biggest positions. Smartest financial decision I made next to my house. You did good brother. Thanks for sharing.
Dude, I love these videos. You were drafted in ‘06, you invested during the recession of ‘08. I mean... you were half lucky. But you were also pretty smart too.
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching our stuff and commenting!! If I invested right when I was drafted I would have been in towards the top of that time. Market has still doubled since that time though. Thanks for watching our stuff and commenting!!
Hey nice vid
Good for you great choices I sell cars never buy imports cost a ton of money in maintenance
Hey Matt. As a native texan in San Antonio i remember watching you play. Would you be interested in doing a short video on your time and championship with the missions? I think it would be really cool to hear. Always enjoy your videos. Great channel and entertaining.
That's awesome! And Will do! Thanks for watching!!
Antonelli Baseball thank you Matt. I am really looking forward to hearing about it.
So how do you go about physically buying stocks in companies? Without going through a standard financial advisor... A full video on it would be hugely beneficial!
mrseaweed1000 etrade and other websites like that
You can do it yourself I day trade. So you can make a pretty good living at it
Etrade
Some apps such as Acorns does it all for you. And if you're a student in college it's all free. But if not they charge a small fee. Still worth it imo
mrseaweed1000 I’m sure there are tons of videos on that. Not really a place for a baseball channel to post
Oh my gosh!! I worked at Roche Bros. as a bagger back in the late eighties.
Haha!
my guess is two chicks at the same time.
TwoThingism lol. office space.
Im guessing if i had a million bucks, i could get a couple chicks to double up on a dude like me.
TwoThingism Well the kind of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.
Lol you don't have to be rich to do that

I got to drive a jag once. My hands were all sweaty and what not im like oh shit this is gonba kick ass. It ran no better than the mini van i own...it felt faster it looked nicer, but it was just that looks.
Nice
My cousin was drafted by Toronto. His friends all bought cars and jewelry he bought a beater and good thing he saved because he never threw a ML pitch due to a rotator cuff injury.
hey Matt very fascinating stuff man, you did well with your investments and i think buying the jag was the right thing to do because not many 21yr old guys can afford that, you lived in the moment and enjoyed it but also had the brains to think long term so good for you. only just found your channel in the last 20 mins and your vids are a great insight into the backstage of ml and mlb ball, you come across really well so great stuff. ✊🏼✌🏼⚾️ go cubs!🐻
You did very well!
Thanks!! Thanks for commenting and watching our videos!
Smart man.
How do infielders communicate with outfielders? Cuts relays hot plays etc when the stadium is loud
great video, would love to hear more about what your investing in now
Thanks! I'm still in almost all the same stocks. Sold some and bought some new ones, but still mostly large cap stocks. Thanks for watching!!
"Did I waste my money on candy and ridiculous stuff." Says with a straight face
Wow,,great advice
Thanks!!
What do you think about Nick Madrigal being supposedly on fast track to the majors?
I knew a number 1 winter draft pick who blew his bonus on a Corvette. He had an ERA of like 7, and lasted a couple of years in the minors.
Hope he invested the rest!! Thanks so much for watching our videos and I appreciate you commenting!!
Hey I was going to ask..what do teams do to prepare for certain teams or pitchers? What goes behind the closed doors when dealing with opponents
Usually just a scouting report on them. I made a video breaking it down if you check out our playlist. Thanks for watching!!
Do a video on mid season trades
If he bought near 2008 he has probably tripled his money
Didn’t you have a Jim Cramer book in the background bookshelf of some of your earlier videos? Did you read a lot of his stuff?
Good job buddy
Thanks!!
Can you do a video on vulcan bat grips
Thank you for sharing. I would do what A Rod did- Invest in multi-unit apartments. If someone moves out, you're still collecting rent monies from other tenants. Build equity over 5-7 years then flip the apartment complex.
That works too!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
investing in companies like apple back in 2006, back just before the iphone and all that came out, man you musta done alright....
hate to bump your comment..but yes! I just looked it up and in 2008 Apple was $6-7 a share. Today, 120ish.
Very wise choices!!
Thank you!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Topic for future video...Who files your taxes? Your Agent takes care of that or do you hire someone else? Plus the complications, paying multiple state tax return plus Canadian? Thanks
You should have shown a picture of the car that you bought. I love Jaguars I'll never be able to afford to buy one but I love the Dickens out of them
Thanks! I don't think I have any pics of it. Thanks for watching!!
Don’t know why I watch this channel but lots of good stuff. Played in HS, that’s it.
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching our stuff and commenting!!
Before you make any money, learn the difference between assets and liabilities.
Also, buy a Toyota pickup and be done with it.
Everyday American real Americans don’t buy foreign cars
"Real Americans" buy whatever they want. Because you know, that kind of goes along with that whole freedom thing.
Worthless Opinion ya but Toyota’s almost crashed the whole economy in 08
yeah, get a hilux and you wont regret it.
@@samskalmowski6528 Toyotas are made here lol.mine is from texas
Matt I like the Jersey on the other wall. Can you switch it with the other Tan Jersey please. Thanks
Lol it's his house. Why would you ask that? Lmao
What model and year was this Jaguar?
Do you get sighning bonus in the last round
Kudos for encouraging young players to save and invest. Somebody asked Albert Einstein what the most powerful force in the World is. He replied "Compound Interest."
Jomar Andy the car ride with Coach Matt remember he told us lol
Very interesting. I couldn't help but look up the amount of your signing bonus. $1,575,000. Not bad for a 21 year-old kid.

How do paychecks and a contract look like from a MLB team?
This reminds me of Privates when I joined the Army spending their enlistment bosuses on partying and getting ripped off at the local dealership with 20 percent interest rates at their first duty station.
On the other hand there is a now former Houston Texans player, now a Cowboy, that lives near me in a modest house and lives smartly. Great video! Glad I found your channel.
I worked at Tower Records in LA for a while back in the 70's, we use to talk about how you could tell when a pro football or baseball player would suddenly come into a lot of money. They'd be in the store for hours buying dozens of records. I remember several times guys coming to the register with literally stacks of albums, maybe fifty or more at one time. I remember one guy in particular who played for the Ram's buying over three thousand dollars worth of records, and he had a little blonde bimbo with him that kept asking if she could pick out some records for herself. All he would say was "yea baby, we''ll do that sometime".
Interesting story! Thanks for watching!!
How do players keep themselves going when the season isn't going well? How do you keep your head in games when you realize that the team isn't playing well?
jschaffe123 money
To tell people to not use a financial advisor is terrible advice. Everyone should have a financial advisor to at least bounce ideas off of
If you buy an English vehicle make sure you have something else to drive. Love your videos Matt!
Hey i have a 10k car lol, had 50k miles, no issues in 3 years, no cosmetic issues either:P
Go all in on FB calls tomorrow 😂
Will you be offering a larger variety of merchandise in the future? I’m particularly interested in T-shirts, jerseys, sweatshirts and fitted hats.
We may, but not sure when. Thanks for watching!!
Some cars appreciate in value, such as low production number Porsches (GT3 RS, Cayman GT4), last generation Supra and some others. Although, this is the exception, rather than the rule.
You can't daily drive those cars and expect them to hold value! You need a garage to park them in (not cheap in San Diego) and still none of them really beat the stock market rate of return.
Investing in exotic cars is stupid unless you are a professional car salesman.
@Bruce Bashore don't forget inflation, storage, and marketing costs.
Maybe it's a beautiful example but probably not. And high end car collectors are very picky.
@Bruce Bashore the point is when you are selling a $30k+ classic car, the grading process is brutal. A few missing records, and paint scuff can bring the value down significantly.
@Bruce Bashore here's the thing, I'd love to see your car. I even googled it to see examples on ebay.
But right now you don't even have a thumb nail picture and you are saying you are ready to market a $30k collectors item with a myriad of style variations. You are looking a huge expense in photography costs.
I saw one example of your truck for $22,000 one for $35,000 and I couldn't easily tell the difference.
@Bruce Bashore So it's toy not an asset. Now you agree. Terrible investment, awesome toy!
I'll say it for you: Don't buy a Jaguar. I'll go further: Don't buy any British car.
Very good advice!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Le Tigidou everything about Britain is unreliable. Couldn’t even keep control of 13 colonies. Smh
True story. Not surprising that this is the top comment.
My Dad and step Mom both bought Jags. She'd had hers for a year, never any problems. So, Dad decided to get one. (Both bought brand new btw). His broke down with major problems, on the way home from the dealership! In a 90 day period, it spent about 70 days in the shop. In and out, ....Finally, the lawyer got involved and Jaguar bought it back at full price.
Step Moms? She kept it 2 more years. No issues at all.
Got an original British Mini. Has been passed through the family for years. Runs like a dream!
Not EVERY British car is unreliable, just a majority of them are, uh, questionable.
lol that tyme!! lololol
Jag with Ford stuff equals lemon they break down just leaving the shop.
Hi, maybe you can do a video on being "Star Struck" were you or were any of your teamates star struck when some big hot shot super star was in the locker room or on the field?
I have a few videos kind of on that, but I wasn't ever really star struck. Thank you for watching our stuff and commenting!
My man invested in stocks!! Also in 2008 if you would’ve invested in bitcoin and sold in December of 2017 before it tanked..............wow!!!!
One-Eye
Compared to almost $20,000 a coin that’s more than half the value GONE.......what’s tanking to you?
Thats a good idea, Im not positive but if you invested a lot into it you would be arrested idk no if its true but its possible
One-Eye a 70% drop is DEFINITELY a tank
vlKenzo 58,000%+ increase in seven years......
Marcus M. tanking is going under and losing money. if I spent $1 that turned into $20 , kept it there to build, and it went down to $ 5 still made a profit. NO LOSS
Terrific content!
What are your thoughts about Mashiro Tanaka???
Charles Hsieh he's trash
Daniel Bencosme he’s not trash at all lol idiot
Yankee fans are idiots
Daniel Bencosme not even a yankees fan but tanaka can throw a gem! You're delusional
Patrick Schreiber he ain't better than DeGrom so sugma ball
Hi Matt
Hey Matt, if you are on the 40 man roster, and are placed on the 60 day DL, do you still receive major league paychecks? What if your on the DL in AAA but on the 40 man roster? Get 40 man roster money?
Nathan Price I like this question. What is the difference between the 25 man, 45 man rosters and pay?
Were you ever in trade talks as a professional player?
dam I need a caaaaar also
How much is sighning bonus per round
What is the prevalence of players who cheat. Not so much peds, but rather methods like pitchers using pine tar or corked bats
What is it like to be sent up to the major leagues
Lots of people are probably wondering if you're talking about 10K, 100K or 1.5 million, etc. (it can be looked up on google pretty easily, but it's not my business to post it on here).
Guy from a high school in my division (Matt White) in the mid 1990s got a little more than $10M, and I don't think he ever pitched in the majors. I don't know him, so I don't know what he did or where he is now, but I'd bet he's not living in Waynesboro, PA - if he is, he could live pretty large there.
David W
I know the guy you were talking about. He was highly touted but the mid Penn league wasn't that hard for him to conquer. I went to greencastle high school and we played them all the time
Great video. Why did you choose baseball and not another sport like hockey that you were good at?
Thanks! I thought I had the best chance of making it professionally in baseball. Thanks for watching!!
At what point do you sell the Apple stock? No money made on any stocks unless they are actually sold right?
I have taken some profits over the last six months probably
My aunt has a jag, and yeah lots of issues... Although i will admit that once they finally fixed it after few years....... its been great since. But yes. New cars are horrible investments....
Intersting! Thanks for watching!!
At the end of innings, why does the pitcher walk to the dugout when everyone else runs in?
Probably because he does more than everyone else so he is allowed to walk and catch his breath. Thanks for watching!!
Antonelli Baseball Gotcha! Thanks man.
Antonelli Baseball
The other players got further to go
How much was you signing bonus?
I know this is an old video and you may have answered this already but how much is a signing bonus or yours anyway? Not asking for exact but $500k +/-. Just a ballpark idea. You hear about these but never know what they are unless it is someone who gets drafted and gets some crazy high dollar contract or bonus. Based off your video I would have to think yours was over $500k with what you were able to buy and still be able to invest most. Just did not know if these are normally in the million plus range. Sorry for being nosey just had me thinking after watching the video. Great videos regardless and keep it up.

Is it possible for you to get back playing professional baseball in hopes of getting to the majors?
No I've been out of the league for too long and I'm injured anyways. Thanks for watching!!
Did you buy brk.b?
Can you make it back to the MLB in some other capacity?
I could try, but right now I'm not. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Back in 2008 you should have bought a Mark IV Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. I believe they made the Mark IV until 2002 or 2003. The Mark IV Supra steadily increased in value due to the 2JZ engine and it being the hero car in the original The Fast and the Furious.
Good on you for not blowing all of your money of frivolous stuff.
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching our videos and commenting!!!
