    Donggook is such a fun dad. seriously these kids are so lucky to have him as their dad. he knows what his kids likes and dislikes. i know there are things that he has said we all dont agree on and instead of arguing and say bad things to him, lets take that as an example to us so that in the future we know what to say and not to our kids :) this show is so pure so lets spread positivity ok :) ps: if u trying to say Donggook dont know how to raise his kids, just look at his oldest twins Jaesi and Jaeah.

    Some people here criticize Donggook parenting style like bzzz he has 5 children and they are all growing up fine, well mannered, sweet, and polite. He knows what he is doing. And yes I disagree with Donggook's "boys don't cry", but I understand. He came from old generation and different culture. It's not like he intended to make Daebak can't express his emotion haha

    • @aphelixon
      @aphelixon 6 лет назад +318

      he purposely makes sian cry (by teasing etc) because he's worried that he is bottled up due to his emotionless face nowadays. he said it once in an interview. he is in no way encouraging his son to bottle up his emotions but only said that quote to try to stop him from crying over fake insects.

      I think it's good he's making sure he will survive as a guy in South Korea, I think he specially worries because he's surrounded by girls growing up. I remember an anecdote of a guy that accidentally never taught his kid how to lie well because he wanted his kid to grow up honest. And that kid's life was in shambles as a teen because it was really obvious when he was lying (because his parents always played dumb when he lied badly as a kid that he never adapted it). So we all have good intentions, but we have to consider what would be best for the child to survive.

    So many people trying to say that "Boys dont cry" is wrong.
    i think he just wants Sian to think that crying won't solve anything. Of course you will cry, thats in our nature. But "boys don't cry" doesn't literally mean don't cry forever. It means do something since you're a man. He wanted Sian to grow stronger since he's the only boy in the siblings. He's living with 4 girls.

    I really like Donggook's way to raise his kids, saying to Sian "boy don't cry" means crying is not always the solution, you should sometimes be brave enough to face your fear, also Sian is the only boy in the family so I think it's nice Donggook tries to make him feel manly. It's good for young boys like that to feel "strong to protect girls" it's good for their self esteem! I think he's a good father, and I can tell you Sian became very brave, energetic and sometimes prank his father too haha

    I see a lot of commenters filleting the dad for saying “Boys don’t cry” and I can’t deny that I don’t support or endorse this motto myself BUT to be fair, although he’s never used the exact words, he has said similar things to his daughters in the past. I remember one episode vividly in which he (much like this scene) roasts Sua for being afraid of generally menial things. He’s also scolded Jaea (one of his older daughters) for crying after losing a match to him (he doesn’t support the idea of holding back against a child).
    I think he’s a good father who is invested in teaching his kids how to be strong and toughen up. And though a part of me feels like if he’s gonna go the whole “boys don’t cry” route that he should instill the same motto in his daughters (Sua and Seola were tearing up due to fear however the dad does not admonish them for it) however tho he’s never used the exact words, to some extent he does similarly push his daughters not to be overly emotional about small trivial things (which is good:))

Please don’t do such things to your children. “You can cry, but afterwards try to improve your situation” is what Sian needed to hear. Im sorry thins is happening to you Sian.

They need to learn this at the age of young so that at this young ages they also learn to more confident, found themselves and be independent. Donggook taught hid kids how to overcome fear and fight it. He is a great father. I really love this sibling.

    Y’all relax, the message behind “boys dont cry” is to teach them to be brave and to motivate him to overcome his fear. The meaning behind it may be rather crude if you think about it but to a child, they may not think so much about it. It probably wont affect them so much if he says it once or twice.
    Anyways, in many asian households, parents may tell their kids “boys dont cry” or “big kids dont cry”, but the kids know its to tell them to be brave in trivial matters, so they dont take it so seriously. If my uncle tells my cousin that, he will just fight back, so it doesnt make a big impact either.
    I get that this isnt the most ideal way to say it but Donggook just wants Sian to overcome his fear of these trivial things, nobody means to tell them they cant cry over something serious like losing a loved one and im sure the kids know it too.
    All your comments are valid but im sure Donggook meant no harm, so lets stop this and try to enjoy the video? Thanks! I mean no hate, debate is welcome.

    people are still complaining about "boys don't cry" thing. When people say that, it's a way of comforting. Of course, when bullies use it to make fun of them, that's bullying. Obviously the dad is going to comfort him when he actually cries but at an early stage, the dad is just trying to teach him not to cry over something silly. The dad is such a great father and the kids have great manners and obey their dad. They're not spoiled and they help out each other.

    nothing is wrong with "boys dont cry" as long as the parents or family are always by the kids side and supporting him. its a way of teaching. Dongguk still slowly teach sian to become brave and follow his pace. people should just relax. duhh

    The right way to make someone overcome their fear is being patient. Wait until they get older then talk to them over their fears. If you make a kid experience fear early, they will get trauma. Trauma can leave fear of something for a very very very long time. It will take more time to heal from fear if you show them too early.

    On one hand, I wish Donggook didn't tell Daebak that boys don't cry. On the other hand, I have no right to do so as his thinking is part of Korean culture and was how he was raised as well.
    On a completely different topic, these kids are growing up so fast. It feels like only yesterday where Daebak couldn't walk or talk and the beagle sisters were stealing his formula.

    I get that the dad is trying to get him to overcome his fear of bugs, but it's wrong to tell him, boys don't cry. Boys should be able to express their emotions like girls are able to. If you don't let him cry, he will have emotions of anger and frustration kept in him.

      So true, & it also teaches boys that there is something wrong and weak with crying/expressing emotion. They learn to associate this weakness as something only girls do, and as they grow into men they become more likely to disrespect and disregard women for being "over-emotional" or irrational.

    • @Cindy99765
      @Cindy99765 7 лет назад +15

      My point exactly. Gender stereotypes will continue to exist if adults don't change their attitudes about them.

    • @esthabunny
      @esthabunny 7 лет назад +34

      Cindy99765 in korea, among the older generation especially, the idea of "be a man" and "don't show weakness! Be strong!" Is a pretty general concept, regardless of gender roles and such other things (those things don't even occur to the older people) hahaha

      Cindy99765 im agree with you. Just start to feel boring with this family. Always playing prank and teasing . It is good to overcome the fear but dont push over it sometime it will became worst . So sad with this family which i feel it is interesting at first .

    "boys don't cry" is probably one of the worst things you could ever teach your kid. boys are expected to hold back their emotions and put on a tough act, which only leaves them becoming aggressive or mentally unstable as they have been taught it's not okay to release your emotions. it's unhealthy.

      I find that it depends, i have a young brother who grew up kinda spoiled. When my dad tells him “boys don’t cry”, he just wants him to be tougher instead of whining and crying when he can’t watch tv or can’t play. He is also a super sore loser and will cry when he loses, and he is super impatient too. He is 8 years old, he rolls his eyes all the time. When i see that he is crying just bc he can’t watch tv and has to do homework, i personally find it very annoying in some way. I know boys can cry too and express their emotions but i think the way the dad does it is just like my own dad. He’s not telling him “you CAN’T cry bc you’re a boy”, he’s just trying to make him a “better man” (sorry i don’t really know how to explain). But for example, if he didn’t raise him the way he is, i think the kid would have a mentality like “i’m the best bc nothing can beat me” kind of like my brother, and he wouldn’t really know how to be patient and all that stuff

    • @gadoliumnitrogen7149

      Well, it is to try and teach the child to be tougher. Also, the majority of the time, the one who looks out in a relationship is the male and the female relies on him on the tough stuff (well not for everything you know). Although it seems bad, it really is teaching the child to grow tougher and besides everyone will eventually know at an early age that it is okay to let your emotions out.

    I really love watching their videos but sometimes Donggooks's comments emit toxic masculinity and yes I get it, he's from an another generation but Sian will also grow up these remarks. The other thing which I dislike about korean media platforms is that they always try to make a female as a literal goddess and the other one is perceived like a joke. Look at the way everyone keeps on commenting at Sua about how she "eats well". I hate the fact that she's gonna grow up body image issues. LET PEOPLE LIVE IN PEACE. Let them eat whatever they want to and it's okay if they're afraid of something. Sian and Sua are so young and god I feel bad for them

    Tbh i can put myself in Sian’s shoes bc i remember going through stuff like that as a kid and being terrified, and i understand the criticism about his parenting... but he knows when it’s going too far and he knows when to stop it and explain... he cares about his kids too and he’s trying to teach them not traumatize them
