Ive had several of those cable keychains, one from amazon and one from home depot, both work themselves loose over time and my keys fell apart at inopportune times, not that any time would be opportune! Maybe a little red locktite or super glue would help.. I havent seen the rod pointing before, are you talking about canterberry? I needed to cut a ferro rod to fit in one of my kits, I used a dremel outside and it looked like I was in a foundry! SPARKS GALORE

When I have cut down a ferro rod in the past, I placed it in the vise and tapped it with a small hammer. Breaks clean.
