Yes u can use one diode one 1k 5w resistor also filter capacitor but be careful don't touch during use AC. U can also use 10W 220v(that called zero)bulb up to 60W bulb it works.

Dear when u use different values of resistor not matter its sound different from sparrow bird to duck like or Chak Chak sound in one project you gotta many sound. Use variable volume controls in feed back position of transistor you got lot of fun.

try changing resistor values or maybe capacitor
i.e. I have 750 ohm instead of 1k (2 1.5k resistors in palallel) - it works for 12V, but doesn't for 9V (makes continuous sound instead of bird)
