  • In this video I demonstrate how a bad ignition coil in a 2013 Ford F250 was producing large amounts of RFI between 50-200MHz severely de-sensing a BK VHF fire radio installed.
    Using a low rf level NOAA weather channel as a reference, I show how after starting the engine the channel became unintelligible due to the interference produced by the truck's engine. This effect can also be shown using a handheld radio, where the signal becomes unintelligible as you approach the vehicle.
    This observation can then be followed up with a spectrum analyzer to help pinpoint the source and nature of the problems. This same method would be used if Code 3/LED lighting or any other electrical devices were suspected of causing interference.
