Thanks for the great response. This one was made after Daft Punk. Avi and Kevin wrote it n Mitch was ropred in to help with the vocals. They had some props left over from Daft Punk n used it for this video. Their latest offerings are from just before Christmas 2023. Kissed from a rose and Oh Holy Night are awesome. They have many originals. Watch POpSpring 2016 to see 3 of them being performed on stage mainly Cracked, Can't Sleep Love and Water. If u prefer original videos, I love Coffee in Bed and Love Me When I don't.
This video was indeed filmed and edited by FifGen Films, who also did "Daft Punk Medley", in addition to several other PTX videos. This song was written by Avi and Kevin, with input from Mitch on his part.
PTX has a ton of albums, “American a cappella group Pentatonix (PTX) has released 11 studio albums, six compilation albums, six extended plays (EPs), 34 singles and 58 music videos.” Wiki
Not sure how they’re counting the music videos but 58 isn’t nearly enough. I’m assuming only counting official music videos but that number still doesn’t seem like enough.
This song is the one that your mind about explodes because your mind doesn't believe there are no instruments. How can an EDM song sound like this without instruments?
My favorite visual performance of PTX is Making Christmas from The Nightmare Before Christmas. This one is probably second. Third would be My Favorite Things.
This is one of my favorite originals!! Check out Coffee in Bed, Happy Now and Be My Eyes for 3 other 🔥originals. Just as it’s hard to pick a favorite song of theirs for how it sounds, it’s also hard to pick a favorite one for visuals: Making Christmas, Please Santa Please and Papaoutai (some people get creeped out by this one, but I think it’s creative and cool!) come to mind. #PENTATONIX
Great reaction. You're right, this came out around the same time as Daft Punk medley. This was an Avi/Kevin songwriting piece with input from Mitch. More originals: Coffee In Bed, Happy Now, Be My Eyes, Love Me When I Don't, Sing, Run To You, The Lucky Ones....plus there's a whole album of originals called The Lucky Ones. Most of the pieces on it are visualizer/lyric video only, but well worth a reaction. It's all great songs.
This was PTX's follow-up release to Daft Punk, which probably helps explain the makeup and costumes, since it's another (original!) EDM-style track. The deep throat sound Kevin starts making at 1:08 of the original video is something that he's said hurts his throat to do, so this is the only song it appears in (AFAIK). There's a live version of this song they did for an interview - no costumes or makeup, just the 5 of them standing in a group and singing the song. It doesn't have any post-production, so it's a good way to get an idea of how they sound raw. And it's easier to see who's singing what, since they don't have the fast cuts between members that the official video does. ruclips.net/video/F80FsZDTgn0/видео.html
Well hopefully he didn't do any damage to his vocal cords or anything like that. That's pretty cool they did a stripped down version of this song, so to speak.
Visually, what is your favorite Pentatonix video/performance?
Visually: ...it's a tie between My Favourite Things and Making Christmas.

PopSpring 2016 is EVERYTHING! As are O Holy Night and KISS From a Rose
That's pretty resourceful and it worked pretty well. Those are on the list to check out

I feel like there's more videos than that
I agree it doesn’t seem like enough. Whoever has editing powers on Wiki should update it.
High? You have not watched Mitch hit the ceiling in Aha! from the Star Vista in Singapore.
I guess I haven't

How can an EDM song sound like this without instruments?
It's pretty crazy how they're able to do it

Making Christmas was really cool to check out. I think I reacted to that back in October

Good analysis! Thank you.
Recommend their live performance video of Kiss From A Rose.
It is on the list to check out

How many a cappella groups have written and performed an EDM original?
I can't say I can name any. I feel like VoicePlay could probably get close
