    Reminds me of a snowmobile i had with a 617 engine. Lots of fun!

    He is a little shy about running wide open. Just a few weeks ago he was testing his tunnel boat and flipped it at 118 MPH and miraculously went airborne, did a complete 360 in the air, and came back down in the upright position. .Didn't even get wet. That's a one-in-a-million chance.

    That very same boat goes 78-79 everytime or 80 on a perfect cool fall day with a four cyl. in line Merc 50 hp (actual 40.6 on a Stuska dyno at the powerhead). This engine has 130 hp and is capable of much more. The original owner, George Andrews from New Jersey, built two of these hydros and died in the other one trying to set a speed record, so naturally I'm slowly creeping up on it's capability.

      Looks like serious power to weight definitely gonna have to feel that one out for sure. But omg full tilt is going to be a rush.

    Please wear a helmet and have a rescue crew & boat on hand too. Sometimes bad things happen in hydroplanes with very little provocation or warning , at any speed.

    What lower unit that? Looks like a neat setup!

    • @morgan4xl
      @morgan4xl Год назад +11

      OMC 45SS lower unit. One to one ratio. I recently broke the prop nut threads and lost my best prop just below the bridges in this vid. Seven feet of water, not very clear and I'm obsessed with retrieving it. Very soon (tonight) I'll use four 300 watt floodlights spread across the front of my flat bottom boat and cruise the area. If that doesn't work I'll spring for several rare earth magnets ($200?) and drag for it. Yes most racing stainless props are a magnetic stainless either 15-5 or 17-4ph.

    • @Ryan_H22
      @Ryan_H22 Год назад +3

      @@morgan4xl Good luck finding the prop! Hopefully you get it tonight. Please report back!

    • @morgan4xl
      @morgan4xl Год назад +4

      @@Ryan_H22 Thanks for your interest! I just drove down to the river and all the rain we have been having clouded the water up somewhat so I'll be going in the rare earth magnet direction. I wanted a line of magnets ten feet wide with one inch gaps between them, but in the ten foot line I only have six good size magnets for tomorrow so there will be sizeable gaps between them. I'll post tomorrows results for you. Four of the neodymium magnets I have are 1" x 2" x 2" and are dangerously strong.

    • @Ryan_H22
      @Ryan_H22 Год назад +4

      @@morgan4xl Sounds like a plan. Neodymium magnets are awesome. Defiantly have to respect the larger sizes. Best of luck, hope to hear you got it back!

      Funny that the sign made it into the video, not only did I pay but I was one of the few that paid a yearly fee (only $40) but the owner of the launch told me that I was his best customer! I sure get my moneys worth, sometimes I launch two or three times a day.

      @@purdyboi8078 In case anyone is wondering about the idling at 2:41, when you leave the spot on the river where the guy is filming to get on plane it leaves a wake that lasts a minute or so. When you come back past the spot where you took off there are swells that mess with the hydro, there is no "V" to cut through waves just a completely flat bottom in the back and you feel every small swell.

    • @morgan4xl
      @morgan4xl Год назад +4

      You might be the person I'm looking for, I was planning on sand bags to simulate a drivers weight in a hydro project in progress. For initial testing it will be driverless on radio control. It is a 17 foot hydroplane with a rocket engine producing 15,000 lbs of thrust. For comparison, I witnessed a rocket car with 4,500 lbs of thrust run the rocket for 2.5 seconds, shut it off and coast across the 1/4 mile finish line at over 275mph.

      LMAO
      Yea we run twins @ 4500lbs on the bay boat

    • @morgan4xl
      @morgan4xl Год назад +3

      @@drifter9425 Somehow we must be comparing apples to oranges on the lbs of thrust. The hydrogen peroxide rocket that could easily go over a hundred in less than one second had 4,500 lbs of thrust. I've read that one pound of thrust in a rocket equals two horsepower, thus the rocket powered drag car "natural high" had 9,000 hp. What is the hp of your bay boat? Incidently "slammin sammy miller" pushed his rocket car to 247 mph in 1.6 seconds in 500 feet powered by a hydrogen peroxide "cold rocket".

      @@morgan4xlYeah but it's a boat. Need propulsion from underneath, to drive up there n to plane. Trim a prop under to leave, keep bringing it up till cavitation to go faster. But if you don't trim down, it's a barge to take off.. You gonna propel it from above the transom? Well, that Cajun airboat, don't need to plane..... Dr.Losescrew
