Him stepping out on stage & just playing his ass off in front of a giant stack of amps while his hair seemed to be blowing forwards from the power of the amps & his guitar have stayed with me my entire lifetime so far . I recall my ears ringing for a week after one show. Got told to sit down, because I was right in front of Uncle Ted on stage with my elbows on the stage with hands under my head.
He truly was a guitar force of nature back then. Lost on today's crowd how great he was.
By the 80's, everyone else caught up to him, and his virtuosity on guitar sort of slid into oblivion.

Just turned 73, grew up in Detroit, and have been hoping a video this good would turn up since RUclips first came online. If only a live video of Scottish Tea could be unearthed!
I saw the Dukes several times at the Grande Ballroom and around town.
The first time at the Grande was absolute magic! While we waited, I heard the 60Hz hum of an instrument being plugged into an amp, and then the roar of the mighty Byrd, sounding like Godzilla was ready to burst through the curtain! Hendrix, Beck and Page did feedback - nobody but Ted made a guitar sound like a huge Japanese monster! (For the uninitiated, check out the beginning of Loaded For Bear…)
A big thing back then was Clapton’s ‘woman tone’. Yeah, I loved it - Sunshine of Your Love - great stuff! But have you ever heard anything creamier than Ted’s tone in the main melody of Migration? And the BB King-inspired vibrato? Gorgeous. He had amazing technique for his age and the time period.
IMO, the Amboy Dukes days represented a high point for Ted’s melodic soloing creativity that wasn’t matched nearly often enough in his subsequent solo career. (There were high points and good songs later on - no denying that.)
Also great to see Andy Solomon, Dave Palmer and Greg Arama in the spotlight in this video. He was very much ahead of the curve on bass in the late 60s! R.I.P. Greg.

It's 1974, and a 40-ish woman who was attracted to him had the Madman comment loud enough so everyone in the vicinty knew, "I don't fuck my mother's friends!" Always charming, isn't he?

So grateful to see this clip. I was born in 1963 and grew up in Nashville. Had a friend (of Arab descent) who migrated from Detroit when I was in middle school - hence my fascination with the Detroit rock music scene - MC5, The Stooges, Alice Cooper, and all things Uncle Ted. I used to go off dancing to Stranglehold. I'm guessing parents tuning in to this PBS broadcast took one look at Ted and assumed he's on drugs and is going to destroy our children. Here we are 53 years later when gender dysphoria is all the rage, and Ted is just down to earth.

This randomly popped up in my recommended videos list, and I clicked on it because it was a live performance, and from the thumbnail pic (not knowing it was Ted), the big hair piqued my curiosity. Well, now I know, and am glad I watched this. Great performance. Don’t know a whole lot about his music, other than I remember seeing videos for Heads Will Roll, and Cat Scratch Fever, both of which got airplay on Mtv back in the day. Had always heard he was a great guitar player, and this performance definitely shows some of his skill level. Glad I found this, and I have to thank whatever algorithm from RUclips decided I needed to see this. Guess I should check my recommendations more often!🎸

In 2003, I watched THE DC VIDEO by DC Shoes, and the part where skater Anthony Van Engelen rode to “Stormtroopin’” hit me hard. That day, I must’ve replayed it 20 times. Shortly after, I visited my uncle, who had a Les Paul in his attic. He gave it to me, and I became obsessed with learning that song, barely sleeping but loving every moment. Now, at 36, I still jam to it like it’s the first time, and I’m teaching my 3-year-old daughter how to play guitar.
    Thanks, Ted!

I saw Ted live in Seattle in 1978 where he came out on stage swinging on a rope from standing on a mountain of Marshall Amps wearing only a loin cloth like Tarzan! And ROCKED like the wild man he is. God bless Ted Nugent, and God bless the United States of America!

@bmart5353 Yes they did . Your remark is noteworthy. I remember on another vintage video and I addressed an obviously young commenter who talked about how sloppy the camera work and how bad the mix was and that included cumbersome psychedelic manipulations. I enlightened him about how a lot of those people were from the World War II generation and that they didn’t understand rocknroll and all its genres and many didn’t respect the music or musicians. There were lot of bad TV productions
