I have this antenna, and I am getting ready to take it down and store it away. It was fair on 10 meters. Total waste on 20m (would not even tune 20 with external tuner - SWR was over 6), 40 was fair. On 40 meters, I talked to Mid-State NY from VA. They gave me a 5-7 report. I talked to KY from VA, they gave me a 4-4 report. A simple wire dipole with a balun worked 100% better both on the TX and RX and cost me under $45 to make, compared to the $100 I spent on this antenna.

      Did you add radials

This is a CB antenna where the (coil) matching network at the bottom has been removed. It has been replaced by a 1:4 and in some cases a 1:9 unun! This makes the antenna suitable for multiple HF bands with a tuner, on 27 and 28 MHz this antenna will perform less than it was originally made for 27Mc. This is because the matching network has been changed by the wideband transformer. The radial set, (these are not radials), because according to the manual they are on the radiator and not on the ground plane! These serve to extend the electrical length of the radiator to get better performance on 40m and (80m). I think it's a shame that people spend so much money on this antenna, for a fraction of the price you can simply make it yourself.

@renaat9829 works better with radials, I think it's a shame people don't understand antennas ,verticals require radials or they will find something else to use which changes how it radiates

@renaat9829 if radials where added it would work much better
